The Tauber Academy at Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center is accredited by AISF, SACS, and CITA,

Pre K and Kindergarten read the book The Lascaux Cave paintings. A
story about a girl named Anna. She and her classmates go on tour to
see the famous cave paintings in Lascaux, France, she gets separated
from her group and meets a tour guide dressed as a caveman who
explains to her some of the wonderful things she see's in the
elaborate cave system. Then Anna and the tour guide meet someone
else dressed as a caveman--and he's the real thing! He is one of the
artists who drew the famous paintings of humans and animal life on
the walls of the cave. Their new acquaintance
tells them what life was really like back in the
Stone Age. Eventually Anna is able
to rejoin her classmates and has learned a
great deal about not only the cave paintings, but
the people who made them.
So the children could experience cave paintings and this time period.
Ms. Ellie constructed a cave in the classroom and the journey began.
They started by
entering the
room in the dark with
flashlights and forest music
playing. Then they all sat around and
spoke about the Stone Age and how
important the animals are to the cave
people. The children were given sketch
books and a booklet with nine different
prehistoric animals. The booklet has
step by step instructions on how to
draw each animal and they began to
sketch. Ms. Ellie picked the three best sketches from each child and then they drew them on
the cave walls with oil pastels. Next week the best drawing will be done individually with
mixed media on another paper crumbled and painted to look like the cave textures. The
children have also started to mix clay with sand and draw weapons and tools used during
this time frame.

between 9am – 4pm to support the super student in your life, and to promote literacy!
Our Book Fair theme –Reading Saves the Day! – is part of a weeklong event that
brings the books kids love to our school in an atmosphere of fun. Create a “Super Reader”
in your child! Inspiring a love for books at an early age will positively influence your child’s
life - creating avid readers with super imaginations!
A Book Fair gives students access to books at affordable prices and makes reading a
positive experience. Children are more likely to read the books they personally get to
choose. It’s one of the best ways to motivate kids to read more. The more time children
spend reading, the stronger their reading skills are. And strong reading skills are the
pathway to succeed in school and in life. Reading is the most powerful skill of all!
Please join us to make this Book Fair the BEST our school has ever seen. I look

Turnberry Jewish Center prepares 1,800 Kosher
servings of your favorite Thanksgiving side dishes for
those in need of assistance this holiday season.
Everything but the turkey will be delivered to Jewish
families and to the Miami Rescue Mission.
