Senior Prom Proper Attire
Gentlemen: Jackets and ties are required, along with dress
pants and dress shoes. Tuxedos are optional. Earrings or
facial piercings of any kind are not permitted.
Senior Prom Proper Attire
Ladies: Long dresses are typically worn to senior prom.
Dresses should be modest; gowns should not expose too
much skin. This includes choosing dresses that do not
have plunging necklines or lack of coverage. Midriff
dresses are not acceptable. Two piece dresses are not
acceptable. Additionally, cutouts must not expose the
abdomen. The opening on the back of the dress should
not be lower than the natural waistline. Marist High
School reserves the right to use discretion in determining
the appropriateness of all dresses and dress-wear.
Senior Prom Proper Attire
Here are a few visual examples of
the dress code that will be
enforced at Marist Senior Prom
for our female guests, including
Marist students and dates of male
Marist students…
Bust
The top of the dress should come to the top of the bust (green line).
The bust continues around your sides directly under the armpit. With
arms down at your side, if flesh touches flesh below the mid-bust
line(yellow line), the dress is inappropriate. Any plunge in the neckline
should not be below mid-bust.
Inappropriate Bust Line
Back
The opening on the back of the dress may not drop below your natural
waistline (if you were to draw a line around your waist where your bellybutton is.) Also, the opening on the back should not span wider than
where your arms are resting at your sides. Any visible abdomen or side of
the chest is inappropriate.
Inappropriate Back of Dress
Slit
The slit on the dress should
not surpass 2-3 inches above
the knee. A slit ending any
higher than where the tip of
your longest finger meets
your thigh (with your
hands at your sides) is
inappropriate.
Inappropriate
slits
Midriff
There should be no visual abdomen whatsoever. Cut outs
(including sheer material) are unacceptable. Two piece dresses are
not allowed.
Flesh tone material *that is absolutely not sheer* is acceptable.
Inappropriate Midriffs
Please know that by choosing to ignore the
aforementioned dress code, your parent will
be contacted and you will not be allowed
into Marist Senior Prom.
With that being said, there are thousands of gorgeous,
elegant, fashionable dresses that fall within the guidelines.
We have no doubt every one of you will look absolutely
stunning at prom on May 13th!
See you then!
