All staff and students return to school – Monday 20 April Farewell to Term 1 – Hello to Happy Holidays! This term has been extremely busy with a long list of achievements. Term 2 will also keep us on the go with: Reports, Parent Interviews, NAPLAN, Athletics Carnival, School Photos, Book Fair, Mother’s Day Stall, Yr. 6 Interrelate, Kinder parent School Tours, SSMF Choir Rehearsals, School Birthday, OC Applications, OC Test, Festival Instrumental Music, K6 Assembly, ICAS Competitions, Math-a-thon, School Public Speaking, Management Plan & Budget Review and ?? I would like to congratulate all the students, particularly our Kinders, who have settled into their classes and made a great start to the year. We are particularly fortunate to have a wonderful group of students at Laguna St. Thank you again to our active and enthusiastic band of parent volunteers and supporters. You help to make our school days very special. Well done to our hard working staff who always try to do good things for our students. Have a wonderful holiday everyone and I want to see you all back at school ready for another great term at Laguna St PS. What a great Disco! Many thanks to Naomi and Jeff Dean for organizing a fantastic Disco last week. The P&C was able to raise over $2000. Easter Hat Making with Buddies The K-2 students have worked with their older class buddies to make their Easter Hats for the parade on Wednesday. This is an enjoyable experience for older and younger students alike. Cross Country The students participated in the Cross Country races held at school on Tuesday. We thought that we were going to be fortunate with the weather and if we had finished about 15 minutes earlier, we would have avoided the huge downpour that suddenly burst upon us. For many students, this was the highlight of the day because they had an excuse to run around in the rain! Fortunately, all the races were completed which will help in finalising our Cronulla Zone team. Results will be published early next term but many thanks to Miss Wyburn and Mrs Carroll who organised the day Miss Wilson took a number of photos to share with you. Enjoy! Some Cross Country Photos Anaphylaxis Remember to always wash your hands before and after to eat to stop germs and to help your friends who have food allergies. Welcome Back Daniel Malouf is an ex Laguna St student who is now in Year 10 at Cronulla HS. Daniel has expressed a desire to train as a teacher and it has been a delight for us to welcome him back for a few days’ work experience. Expressions of Interest – extracurricular French lessons We are currently considering a proposal to start an after-school French club at LSPS for students from Kindergarten to Year 3. LCF Fun Languages, a local private business, would conduct the classes, offering interactive and structured programs that encourage full participation of the children in a fun and engaging learning environment. The children would be immersed in the new language and learn through games, songs, role play and craft. The tutor would be a native French speaker. Interest is being sought to establish a one-hour class on Wednesdays from 3:30 – 4:30pm, for a nine week term commencing in the second week of Term 2. A minimum of five children is required to start, the maximum number of students is 12. Families interested in joining the class are encouraged to contact the parent coordinators – Marielle Abbott (0414 316 822) or Rachel Robinson (0408 257 191) so that the number of participating families can be gauged. Children with no prior French experience are welcome. Agnès Thévenin, local manager of Fun Languages in Southern Sydney, is also contactable on 0425 821 223 and will answer any questions you may have about the program. Congratulations to … Mrs Macklin who has been chosen to become an Assistant Principal, supervising Kindergarten. Futsal Competition Laguna Street PS competed in the annual Futsal NSW Regional Schools competition which was held in Marrickville 26 March 2015. We entered a total of 6 Senior Boy teams, 2 Senior Girl teams and 1 Junior boys and girls team. As always the LSPS students displayed outstanding sportsman ship and great skill during the day. All teams gave it their all and should be proud of their efforts. The Laguna Street Blue team came up against some stiff competition from The Kings School in the semifinals. What an outstanding game, with a great display of skill and determination. Special mention goes to Dylan G who make some remarkable airborne saves as goalie. The LSPS Blue team went on to the grand final which they narrowly lost, but they still made selection to the NSW Championships which be held in Penrith later this year. A great day was had by all. Thank you to the parents who came along and supported our students and also to Daniel M, who was also a great help. Miss Wyburn and Mrs LeBreux Dance2bfit We are running a dance program called Dance2bfit in term 2 for 10 weeks. The program is an energetic, innovative and fun way to get fit and funky with the latest dance styles to the hottest music tracks. This is a great program to improve the fitness levels of students while they are having a great time.
