TENNIS CAMP
Lavner Tennis Camp
(ages 6 to 12)
Tennis camp is powered by the Lavner
Tennis Academy, a first class tennis
academy based out of Philadelphia’s
Main Line suburbs. Tennis camp offers
instruction for students of all ability levels
ages 4 to 12. In past summers, the camp
hosted players from the Philadelphia
Metro area, Reading, Allentown, the
Pocono area, Delaware, New Jersey,
New York, Maryland, Michigan, Florida,
Switzerland, Germany, Russia, Korea,
and China.
At camp, highly skilled tennis instructors
use the “Lavner” curriculum to teach
proper swing fundamentals, footwork,
and stances for each shot, in addition
to constructing point play with strategy
and tailoring it to specific opponents. The “Lavner” teaching methods have a
strong history of proven success with
professionally ranked tennis players on
the ATP and WTA Tours, internationally,
nationally, and sectionally ranked junior
tournament players, and with players
aspiring to succeed at the high school
and middle school level.

For our many campers who do not play
competitively, but love to play the game,
or just want to learn, our curriculum uses
a step-by-step approach that gives our
players the proper foundation to learn
tennis, succeed, and continue with
confidence in the sport. Tennis campers
work hard, play hard, make friends, and
have lots of fun! Private lessons are

Bright Stars Tennis Camp
(ages 4 to 5)
Let’s not forget about our little ones!
This camp is specifically designed and
optimized for campers ages 4 to 5. Our
Bright Stars campers use smaller nets,
courts, and foam balls to make the game
of tennis easier for immediate success. Our curriculum also incorporates dance
and song into learning the proper
swings, stances, and footwork for
developing a solid foundation at a very
young age. Campers use basic math

Soccer Camp
Ages
5 to 12
At Soccer Camp, highly skilled soccer coaches teach
campers the proper fundamentals and techniques of the most
popular sport in the world. A variety of drills are used to teach
campers the basics of passing, dribbling, and shooting.
Instructors also challenge campers to use both the dominant
and non-dominant foot, emphasize the importance of proper
footwork and ball control, field awareness, and adequate
spacing among players. Every camper, regardless of age or
position, participates in both offensive and defensive drills
helping to develop and improve the different aspects of
each camper’s game.
Campers receive individual and group coaching
throughout the week. Campers are divided into teams
based upon age and ability for drills, games, and competitions.
Campers participate in competitions such as penalty shots, accuracy, footwork,
ball handling, 3 on 3 mini games, and much more!
On Fridays, campers play in a “World Cup” tournament and
select the country they want to represent!
Our instructors help campers build their self-confidence through
encouragement, and providing an environment where every
camper can succeed in improving their skills, techniques, and
knowledge of the game!
Soccer campers work hard, get better each day, and have fun!
Private workouts are available before and after camp.
Breaks are taken for snacks, water, shade,
tag, relay races, and water ice!
Campers should bring their own cleats
and shin guards to camp each day.

Since our camper to instructor ratio is lower than most basketball camps, our
campers achieve success under the close supervision of our talented instructors.
This camp focuses on individual skills sets on offense and defense, team drills and
concepts, understanding
offensive and defensive
play within a team
concept, learning proper
conditioning for speed,
strength, and jumping
ability, and scrimmage
play.

Robotics Camp with LEGO NXT 2.0 & EV3
®
Robotics with
LEGO NXT 2.0 & EV3
(ages 6 to 12)
At Robotics Camp, campers
use LEGO® MINDSTORMS® NXT 2.0
and LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 to
learn the fundamentals of building a
wide variety of robots. By learning
important principles, campers acquire
the ability to create robots from their
imagination, in addition to following
instructions for specific robots provided
by LEGO® and independent websites. The LEGO® MINDSTORMS® NXT 2.0 and
EV3 product lines allow for hundreds
of possibilities of robots, and each
week at camp new ideas and projects
are presented. In addition to building,
campers learn how to program robots
using a computer, how to control their
robot using remote control capabilities,
and work in teams every step of the way.
In addition to building and programming,
campers learn about the history of
robotics, its current importance, and
how it will change the future of lives for
generations to come. Campers also
utilize math skills through building,
programming, and the use of trial and
error where measuring time, speed,
and distance during challenges is
paramount.
This camp is great for one-week or
multiple weeks!
If attending multiple weeks of
Robotics Camp, you will move up in
curriculum and work with new robots.
New and Exciting for 2015:
 New robots to build!
 New Challenges and ROBOWARS
TOURNAMENT format.
 New Robotics Activity Packet.
Level 1 is for campers trying robotics
for the first time or with little experience
(Appx. 1-2 camp weeks): Campers in
this level use LEGO® MINDSTORMS®
NXT 2.0 and/or EV3 to learn the basics of
robotics, build and program at least two
robots during the week, and use them
to complete tasks that are competitive
and non-competitive. Campers can
work with a selection of robots like the
Shooterbot, Robogator, Humanoid,
6 | www.lavnercamps.com
TRACK3R, R3PTER and free build a
robot for Robowars. Level I campers
also learn about organizing pieces,
wheels and axles, and the importance
of sustainability by caring for pieces
and using rechargeable battery packs
whenever possible.
Level 2 is for campers who are at the
intermediate level (Appx. 3-6 previous
camp weeks): These campers use
LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 to build,
program, and control robots like the,
SPIK3R, EV3RSTORM, and GRIPP3R. A selection of “bonus robots” include
the BANNER PRINT3R, BOBB3E,
DINOR3X, ELECTRIC GUITAR, EV3D4,
EV3GAME, EV3MEG, KRAZ3, Mr. B3AM,
RAC3TRUCK, ROBODOZ3R, and
WACK3M.
Campers can also partially or fully
“invent” their own design and implement
the building and programming of a robot
without instructions to complete certain
tasks. These robots may include using
multiple bricks, additional pieces, and
even wireless remote control from the
computer. These campers learn trial and
error, the importance of using their own
imagination, and the rewarding feeling
of creating something that is totally
“their own.” Level 2 campers explore
concepts in sustainability and efficiency
regarding the functioning of their robots.
Level 3 is for campers who have
at least six weeks of Robotics Camp
experience, or at least 150 hours of
experience in robotics (Appx. 6 + camp
weeks): These campers use LEGO®
MINDSTORMS® EV3 to build, program,
and control robots of their
own creation. These
robots must perform tasks
that are for practical
use in real life, either
effective “as is” or a
representative scaled
down model for a robot
that would be much
bigger in real life. Campers are asked
to identify societies’
“needs,” what type of
robots can fulfill these
needs, and implement
their own designs
and concepts.
Ages
6 to 12
Some examples may include: A
Recycling Robot, A fire alarm with
a heat sensor, A Robot using wind
energy, a Parallel Parking Robot using
the Gyro sensor, and of course the
super cool Candy Machine (taking real
coins and dispensing candy!) Level 3
campers may also explore the financial
undertaking of building these types of
Robots in “life size” and determine the
cost benefit analysis of bringing their
creation into “real life.”
Please provide your child’s experience
level on your registration form in the
“additional comments section.” If you
have any questions about the level of
your child, please email us at Info@
lavnercamps.com
Campers at all levels participate in a
camp tournament called ROBOWARS,
which takes place on the Friday of each
week. All groups “free build” a robot
that battle head to head in a tournament
setting. For many campers ROBOWARS
is the highlight of their entire summer!
In ROBOWARS, robots are either preprogrammed, controlled by computer
via USB, controlled by computer via
Bluetooth® wireless connection or by
smart phone.

Video
At Video Game Design Camp, campers use
the program Fusion 2.5 to create their own video games
for use on computers, and learn how to create game Apps
that are compatible with the Android™ and/or iOS devices. Known as one of the best and computers camps in the area,
campers come away with added skills, knowledge, and
accomplishments!
At this popular Computer Camp, no previous experience is
necessary, however more complicated projects are offered to
campers based upon their age and ability.
Starting with a blank screen, campers begin with a single
frame where they place objects, scenery, a scoreboard, and
number of lives. Campers use the events editor to program
how objects behave in this environment. The games and Apps
are then expanded to multiple frames and levels, resulting in a
complete multi-level arcade and/or platform game/App.
In addition to using objects and scenery from Fusion 2.5,
campers can bring outside objects and scenery that they
design into the game, or manipulate the design of objects
within the Fusion 2.5 library. In this sense, campers learn not
only programming logic, but also animation and design. Multi-level decision-making teaches campers to consider the
game as a whole, beyond just a single frame, and encourages
vision and planning.
Level 1 is for beginners with little or no experience.
Within the first week, campers create their own games
of brick-breaker, pong or asteroids, and one App. Upon
returning for a second week of camp, campers create a
platform game with scrolling capabilities for games like
Downhill Skiing, Car Racing, and Medieval Adventures, or
a game of their choice, in addition to creating another App. Campers are amazed at how quickly they can learn to make
their own games and Apps from scratch! While working
through a tutorial to utilize programming and design concepts,
campers are given total poetic license to create their own
features and story lines. Campers create at least one Video
Game and one App during each week of camp.
8 | www.lavnercamps.com
Level 2 is for campers who have completed at least two
full weeks of camp, and exhibit a strong understanding
of basic principles in Multimedia Fusion 2.5. Expanding
on the ability to create a basic platform game, campers can
create games with scrolling capabilities like a Multi-Player
Racing games, Adventure Games over vast landscapes.
Underwater Games, a Choose Your Own Adventure game,
Quiz Shows, “Lavner Jump!,” Role Playing Games, and much
more... App creation in level 2 focuses on touch features,
swiping movements, and creating apps with more adventure
and flashier animation!
Level 3 is for campers who have completed at least
four full weeks of camp, and/or have 100 programming
hours in Multimedia Fusion 2.5. Platform games are similar
to the games created by the intermediate group, but Level 3
campers are encouraged to complete more total levels, create
a more complicated story line, execute with a higher caliber of
design, custom design players and enemies, and implement
more sofisticated movement by enemies, especially bosses
of levels. Campers learn and discuss the marketability of
video games and create them with this in mind. Level 3
campers are asked, at their volition, to consider submitting
their final product to a video game website. Level 3 campers
also explore the history of Apps with attention to some of the
most famous Apps that have been instant successes, their
components, and how they captured the imagination of the
public. Campers are then asked to create an App with these
principles and concepts in mind.
Campers may sign up for one week or multiple weeks, as
campers are always engaged in new material by advancing in
our curriculum.
*If your child creates an App for the Android™, you can upload
the app to your Android™ at home, or the parent can bring in
their Android™ on Friday at pick up time for uploading.
*If your child is creating an App for an iOS device, this file will
be saved to a CD and you will need to submit it to Apple’s App
Store, where publishing is subject to their approval.

3D Innovation & Design
With Minecraft™
Come experience the exciting and
educational world of MinecraftTM!
Stretch your imagination
at 3D Innovation & Design
with Minecraft™!
At this summer camp, you utilize your
own creativity, learn and improve
your skills, and work individually or
collaboratively (on our own private
servers) in the same virtual world!
Our own servers allow campers to work
together on the same projects, creating
fun and dynamic group interaction!
Using Minecraft™ as a learning tool,
campers utilize various Minecraft™
skills to customize and create their own
legendary worlds! Campers learn how to
tailor their own landscapes and explore
the benefits and challenges of various
biomes. Campers also use an inventory
of blocks and various resources to
literally “mine” and “craft” projects like
a Medieval village, landscape arenas,
secret underground cities, pirate ships,
high rise buildings, towers, bridges,
castles, caves, roller coasters and
entire amusement parks. Campers
may also construct famous buildings
and structures like the Space Needle,
Petronas Towers, The White House,
Taj Mahal, Buckingham Palace, the
Pantheon, and/or structures of their own
choosing.
4.Multi-Player Servers – Campers learn
about multi-player servers through
their hands-on experience of working
within them at camp.
*Projects can include the construction
of a train system, roller coaster, and
trapdoor/tunnel access allowing all
players to tour and travel the entire
environment for observation, work
efficiency, and gameplay. Campers can
also create worlds that encompass game
play and a story line.
This camp is open to campers who
are beginners and intermediates at
Minecraft™. Campers are grouped
based upon age and ability, and group
requests can be made prior to camp.
Campers may choose to work with
other campers or on their own,
but group participation is highly
encouraged! By working in the same
world with multiple players, campers
assume different roles (builder, architect,
resource gatherer, protector, team
leader etc…) where communication and
fulfilling one’s role is very important to
achieving the group’s collective goals. From a social standpoint, campers learn
teamwork and cooperation as they fulfill
a variety of roles when sharing and
implementing ideas in the completion of
group projects.
*Added Learning Opportunities:
1.Customizing Maps – Campers can
learn about customizing maps and
biomes in Minecraft™.
2.Redstone Lessons – Campers can
learn about creating electrical circuits
using Redstone. This knowledge can
help students create features like
functioning doors, garage doors, trap
doors sliding bookcases and more that
operate at the push of a button. More
advanced campers may work with
pistons.
3.Mods – Campers can learn how to
implement a Mod (modification). An
instructor will use a step-by-step
demonstration on how to implement a
Mod into a MinecraftTM world. Mods
add tremendously to the “creativity
factor” since campers can modify
their player, tools, scenery, structures,
interactions, and much more!
10 | www.lavnercamps.com
Ages
7 to 12
Campers are required to arrive with
their own Minecraft™ account for a PC.
If your child does not have a Minecraft™
account, it can be purchased at
Minecraft.net. Once this account is
purchased, campers have access to
their account for use throughout the year.
Campers should bring in a USB flash
drive on their last day of camp so that
they can then copy their project(s) onto
their flash drive for use at home.
Campers may register for one week or
multiple weeks, as projects vary from
week to week.
*This camp is not affiliated with
Minecraft.net and/or Mojang, Inc.
*The functionality of our servers for
multi-player use is dependent upon
Internet connectivity. Our servers have
successfully undergone testing prior to
the summer at each location. Although
rare, it is possible that external factors
may cause an interruption in connectivity
during camp. If this occurs, campers
will collaborate on projects in single
player mode and/or engage in other
Minecraft™ learning experiences while
connectivity is being restored. Rest
assured, there are many “off computer”
Minecraft™ activities that supplement
learning and are super fun!

Coding with Scratch
Ages
8 to 11
Welcome to the amazing world of coding with Scratch,
where, at this awesome computer camp, campers gain
great experience with computer science!
Campers use Scratch, a program created by the MIT Media Lab, to create,
program, and share projects. With over 6 million projects to choose
from, campers program and design their own characters and landscapes,
and create their own interactive adventures and stories.
Scratch uses a programming language that is in easy
to understand English and created for its own platform. By moving and
combining blocks of code, campers develop their own programs to create
super cool animation projects. Campers can also make their animations
interactive by including instructions, designing their character’s costumes,
adding unique background images and sounds, programming their “sprites”
(the objects that perform the actions in the project) to dance, sing, and talk,
in addition to other endless possibilities. Campers enjoy customizing projects and
using lots of creativity. By using Scratch, campers are able to work with a more simplified programming
language (compared to other programming languages) to gain the understanding
of programming logic and concepts. For campers who want to get into computer
programming, this is a great place to start!
Adding to the fun, campers can share projects easily with family and friends by
creating their own links!
Instructors set up each camper with his or her own personalized Scratch account upon
arrival at camp.
No prior experience is necessary.
This camp is great for one week or multiple weeks!

Science Discoveries CAMP
Ages
7 to 12
Welcome to Science Discoveries, a lab based science camp
for our enthusiastic science loving campers!
Do you crave fun and exciting science experiments that are mind
riveting, challenging, and yes… educational? Do you want to engage in
a hands-on experience, acquire lots of knowledge, and be able to WOW
your family and friends? If so, sign up for this amazing and well-rounded
science camp experience at one of our awesome locations!
Using a holistic approach each week, campers perform experiments in
Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Geology, and Model Rocketry.
From Monday to Thursday, each day is dedicated to a different
discipline of science, where two to three experiments are performed. Fridays are dedicated to model rocketry: the science behind it, the build,
and the launch.
Launch excitement is off the charts!
Prior to each experiment, campers are given background knowledge,
divided into groups, and given safety and practical instructions. During
the experiments, campers use a step-by-step approach, cooperation
and teamwork, and stretch their brains to achieve great results. After
the experiments, campers present their final results, summarize their
findings, share their
discoveries, ask additional
questions, and relate the
experiment to “real world” practicality.

CULINARY ARTS CAMP
Ages
7 to 14
At Culinary Camp our campers have a blast learning how to cook (AM session) and bake (PM session). Campers are divided into two groups: Sous Chefs (ages 7 to 10) and Executive Chefs (ages 11 to 14).
Our mission is to provide a completely hands-on learning experience in a safe environment that creates a great cooking
camp experience! Lavner culinary instructors are excellent cooks and bakers, and have experience with a diverse background
of culinary dishes. Campers work with homemade recipes and fresh ingredients. They also learn about healthy eating, kitchen
and food safety, and how to work well with others! To achieve great culinary success, this camp provides the consumer science
discipline with the artistry of creating great meals.
Throughout the day, campers enjoy both group and individual lessons with our instructors. The variety of dishes and desserts
made each week include international and domestic favorites, and vary from week to week. The Lavner Culinary Camp is a
fantastic way to meet friends with similar interests, learn life-long skills, and have fun! The best part of each day, of course, is
eating the tasty food and desserts, and bringing any extras home for the whole family to enjoy.
The Culinary Camp combines what you may find at both cooking camp and baking camp. It is an exciting and educational
experience in a super fun environment. Our instructors are patient and encourage campers of all abilities to actively partake in all
of the cooking and baking lessons. Most facets of the cuisine and desserts are made from scratch so that campers experience
the culinary process.
Campers also learn about proper nutrition and diet, as well as food and table
preparation. During the baking session, many students even improve their
math skills without ever realizing it! Math skills also improve when our campers
learn to check inventory for ingredients. Our goal is to create an environment where campers are willing to express
themselves through their dishes in a team-oriented and creative fashion.

Filmmaking Camp is a combination of scripting, acting, directing, and editing. When
starting out in film, whether in front of the camera or behind the scenes, it is always
important to understand and appreciate all aspects of production. Campers who
get a taste of everything can decide what they like and want to pursue in the future. Campers are grouped by age and ability level.
Join us for a totally unique and fun summer experience where campers are supercreative, challenged, and produce a final product they can be proud of and watch
for years to come. Calling all future
Hollywood stars!

GRAPHIC DESIGN CAMP
Ages
10 to 14
Design and create a
brand for a business!
At Graphic Design Camp,
campers express their creativity
and learn practical and technical computer skills for this
growing and evolving industry. Join us for a fun, creative, and
educational experience this summer at Graphic Design Camp!
Graphic designers are visual storytellers whose ultimate goal is to
sell a product or an idea through effective visual communication. Using
Adobe ® Photoshop® and Illustrator, campers learn to complement their
creativity with the proper technical skills to produce designs that communicate
messages and leave lasting visual impressions. Campers learn about
typography, pure design elements like colors, shapes, and images, design skills to
organize and convey information, strengthen conceptual skills, and produce clean
and effective work product.
During the week, campers work in groups to develop and design a brand for
a business of their choice. Campers may choose any business, where some
examples include (but are not limited to): a gym, clothing store, restaurant,
professional sports team, movie theater, video game design company, and much
more. Once the business is selected, campers then create designs for logos,
business cards, posters, signs, brochures, t-shirts, and other items marketing their
business. Campers also learn about the value of good project management, “soft”
and “hard” deadlines,” and the basic psychology of grabbing the attention and
creating positive responses from consumers.
As an additional focus on financial literacy, each group will be given a budget of
$75,000 fantasy dollars to use on a marketing plan for their business. Campers will
create a marketing plan and budget for their business and will present to the entire
camp on Friday. Marketing plans can include traditional print marketing, internet
marketing, social media, guerilla
marketing, promotional events, and
other creative and cost effective tactics
that will help them maximize their ROI.

Camp Locations
This summer camp takes a fun and educational approach to the world of magic. Campers learn and perform tricks each day, learn about the history of magic, watch
cool demonstrations, and learn how to “work the room.”
Campers typically learn two to three tricks each day, review tricks from previous
days to hone their skills, get a chance to perform informally all week, and formally on
Friday in a camp magic show. The camp is structured so that campers learn tricks,
build upon their skills each day, and practice performing in front of their peers. Once
campers learn the basics, they can’t wait to master the next trick!
Magic Camp offers exciting tricks for children of all levels, where campers are
grouped according to age and experience. Beginners learn to master tricks like:
Ropes passing through solid objects, transported water, mysteriously changing oil
to water, illusions with cups and balls, rubber band transformations, amazing card
tricks, and more! Returning or advanced campers focus on tricks like: producing
objects out of thin air, amazing rope escapes in full view of the audience, Houdini’s
Impossible Escape, all sorts of card tricks with amazing revelations, levitation, and
much more!
All campers learn how to adapt and perform tricks with their own personal style. Campers prepare the entire week for the Friday afternoon magic show where
friends and family are invited to be amazed…!
Campers may attend for one week or multiple weeks. *All supplies are included, so
just bring yourself, your curiosity, and lots of enthusiasm!

Language Camps
Ages
8 to 12
Want to immerse yourself into a new language
and culture? This camp is for you!
Campers choose Spanish, French, or Chinese and immerse
themselves in the language and culture throughout the week.
Learning a new language is easy and natural for children,
especially as their brains continue to develop cognitively and
linguistically.
Using interactive learning tools rather than textbooks, campers
use more hands-on and fun methods to improve their language
skills (speaking, reading, and writing), and explore the culture
through traditional food, dance, history, music, media, and
much more.
Learning a second language increases your chance for travel,
forming new friendships, and career
opportunities!
Through years of research and studies, experts have
concluded that learning a foreign language has many
benefits for children. Some benefits include increased verbal
development, better problem-solving and math skills, greater
self-confidence and personal fulfillment, clearer spatial
relations, improved communication skills, heightened creativity,
and enhanced memory.
As the global boundaries continue to get smaller through
technological and societal advances, learning a foreign
language provides these campers with a vehicle to develop
meaningful relationships and cultural awareness, enhance
career opportunities, gain self-confidence, and broaden their
perspectives.

and develop leadership skills while
working with children in a camp setting.
This program is designed so that
CITs improve their leadership skills
through direct supervision and multiple
conferences throughout the week with
their lead instructor, as well as through
hands-on experience working with
campers. The goals of this program are:
to provide our CITs with the training and
skills to become confident leaders and
to improve their self-confidence, to give
our CITs the opportunity to assist with
children in a camp environment, to place
our CITs in a position to excel at handling
a reasonable amount of responsibility
while at camp, to prepare these teens for
future work experience and to help build
their résumés, to motivate our CITs to be
effective role models, and to create a fun
and productive summer where our CITs
participate in their areas of interest at
Exploration Day Camp or in a Specialty
Day Camp(s) of their choice!
Under the supervision of our
experienced staff, CITs assist campers
with camp activities, help with organizing
materials and supplies, think creatively
and share ideas, and act as positive

So many of our campers are passionate about the specialty programs they are
participating in and want to improve and develop the skills taught throughout
camp. Instructors are positive and supportive, and use these lessons as
an additional way for the camper to learn, improve, and have fun with the
programs!
One-on-one private instruction is an excellent way for our campers to learn
at their own pace, gain a better understanding and mastery of the skills and
subject material, and enhances the camper’s experience at camp. Our
instructors are friendly and supportive and they understand that every camper
learns at his or her own pace. The private instruction is designed to be
hands-on and very focused, enabling the instructor and the camper to focus
specifically on the areas of camper interest or weakness. Lessons are tailored
to the specific camper, and in some instances, campers may use the private
lessons to go above and beyond the camp curriculum in an educational and
informative manner with the help of the knowledgeable instructor.
Campers who take advantage of private lessons are amazed at the progress
they are able to make in a short period of time! Don’t miss out on reserving a
private lesson, as they are limited and are booked on a first-come, first-serve
basis. Campers have the option to purchase more than one private lesson,

Private lessons can be booked on lavnercamps.com during online registration,
or by contacting our office via email at [email protected]. Lessons are
only available in certain Specialty Day Camps, which are provided during
online registration. If you are interested in registering for a private lesson, or

Harry’s camp experience last year was
absolutely transformational -- he walked
out of there standing taller and with a
sense of purpose in his life. He might not
become a video game designer, but that’s
what he wants and nothing else matters.
Thank you for having STEM -- with
technology -- for his age group. We can’t
find it anywhere else.
