2015 CAMP GORDON CLARK
FROM THE DIRECTOR
Welcome to YOUR summer!
Whether you are new to Camp Gordon Clark
or a returning camp family – welcome!
Every summer, we put together an exciting,
enriching, safe and fun camp experience
for EVERYONE!
Sure, summer is a time to enjoy the warm weather, hang out with friends,
swim and play outside, but at camp, the possibilities are endless. Camp is
a place for children to make friends, to try new things, to explore, to take
risks, to actively use their imagination and to be themselves. Add in the
support and encouragement of positive adult role models, and all these
ingredients come together to boost confidence, self-esteem, social skills
and overall emotional intelligence.
Here at Camp Gordon Clark, you are able to create YOUR ideal summer
experience. From the arts to archery, tennis to technology, and robotics
to rugby, our wide variety of programs truly provides something for
everyone.
We are excited to share with you the following exciting information about
our 2015 camp season – one that is sure to be both OUR and YOUR best
summer yet!
Brendan Casey is the Camp Gordon Clark Director and Director
of Day Camps for the South Shore YMCA. Brendan has been
with the Y since 2004, primarily in a camp leadership capacity.
He is no stranger to camp, having not missed a summer in over
30 years!
GENERAL INFORMATION
Our Camp Philosophy:
Our philosophy is that we must make the most of our opportunity to have
a positive influence on the lives of children. Everything we do here at camp
— every activity we lead, every decision we make, every policy we apply —
is guided by the firm belief that we are responsible for the children we lead.
We are responsible for showing them how to be honest, caring, respectful
and responsible members of the community.
Camp is a place for children to make friends, to try new things, to
explore, to take risks, to actively use their imagination and to be
themselves. Add the support and encouragement of positive adult role
models, and all these ingredients come together to boost confidence,
self-esteem, social skills and overall emotional intelligence.
INCLUSION
STARTS HERE
After a successful inaugural year, we are excited to offer improved
inclusion supports for Camp Gordon Clark in 2015. Partnering with
the National Inclusion Project, we are committed to providing an
environment that ensures all children can be successful at camp.
Supports include additional staff training, and on-site inclusion specialists with oversight by our Inclusion Coordinator, Emmy Casagrande.
Campers are fully integrated into this traditional day camp experience
and should be able to participate independently into standard staff
ratios (6 years and under – 1:5, 7 years and above - 1:10). If more
supports are needed, a Sensory Smart Camp is offered on select
weeks providing a 1:4 ratio and shorter days. CGC is an outdoor
camp featuring natural, wooded terrain. Campers should be able to
traverse from site to site independently.
In order to ensure success at camp, please indicate interest in accessing
inclusion supports when registering for camp. A staff member will
contact you to learn more about your child and to discuss the type of
supports needed to make the experience successful for your camper.
For more information about Camp Gordon Clark’s
inclusion supports contact: Emmy Casagrande
781-829-8585, x8316 or [email protected].
For more information about SSYMCA Inclusion
programs contact: Lisa Drennan 781-264-9400,
x3119 or [email protected]
We are an Outdoor Camp:
In the event of inclement weather, the camp will use its shelters and
tents for activities. Severe conditions may dictate use of our indoor
facilities for some or all of our campers and their activities. It is advisable
that campers come dressed appropriately for rainy days — with rain gear,
umbrellas and maybe even a change of clothes.
