All classes meet at the Jr. High School unless otherwise noted in the course
description. Please use the front entrance only.
Parents must accompany their children into and from the building. Teachers will meet students and
parents each day of class and escort to the classroom. Parents must pick up students promptly when their child's
activities finish each day. All supplies provided unless stated otherwise in the camp description. Supervision is
not provided afterward. All camps are coed unless otherwise stated in course description. Changes or
additions to the brochure will be posted online. Class size strictly limited.
Lunch supervision provided for $10 per week, per child from 11 am to 1 pm.

rubber band race cars, roller coasters, and helicopters. Get to know your world on an elemental level by
becoming a budding scientist who explores the science behind slime, blood typing, and build rockets to launch
into the sky! This class is perfect for the curious minded student who loves to build and create!
Candy Bouquet - A (age 6-12)

Fiber Arts Camp (age 8 & up) F01 8:30-­‐11:30 am June 6-­‐9 $80 S. Miller – Creative Wool Crafts – You will learn how to go from wool to finished projects by creating such items as small purses, pillows, stuffed animals, etc., using different fiber arts. You will practice weaving on Ms. Miller’s looms, spin yarns using her spinning wheel, learn needle felting and wet felting. After learning some of the basic techniques, you will use your creativity to make your own unique items. Miller – Beginners will learn the knit stitch, cast on, bind off. We will make a bookmark, and depending on your speed, you may knit a patch that can be made into a small bag, eyeglass holder or coin purse. If you are already a knitter, come and learn the next steps, including purling and yarn over. Class size strictly limited! Needles and yarn provided. Mad Science - A (age 6-12)

L. Lu – Students will use songs, chants, stories, games, and crafts to immerse themselves into a fun packed
culturally rich environment while learning some basic communicative Chinese. Topics covered will include
greetings, numbers, family, pets, etc., and they will be presented in forms of popular children’s songs and
chants. This is a great way to expose children to a diverse culture, and grow an appreciation of different
languages as the world turns into a global village. See also Week 2.

L. Westfall – 1, 2, 3, Let’s Eat – Join us for a fun, interactive, activity filled camp! We will learn social skills
and etiquette that will last a lifetime: basic introductions, social graces for public places and dining etiquette how to set the table, table manners, and how to use your fork, knife and napkin. The program is specifically
written for children by the Protocol School of Washington, D.C., that trains national diplomats. Catherine the
Mannerly Cat will come along to help teach the children kind and courteous behavior.

Space City Pickleball, D. Charvoz – Let’s play Pickleball! The racquet sport sweeping the nation has come to
Friendswood! Kids will learn the history of Pickleball and the basic rules and strategies of this super easy-toplay game. Students will practice serving, dinking, and volleying through daily drills on indoor courts.
Instructors will reinforce positive character traits as students interact with their peers. Bring a drink, wear
comfortable clothes and lace-up sneakers. Parents are invited to join us the last day of class for the final
competition. We may even invite YOU onto the court. No equipment necessary. See also Week 2.

Spy Gadgets & Superhero Circuits (age 8-12)

Action Potential Learning - S. Pond – Learn the science of spies and superheroes! Build real working gadgets
using basic principles of engineering, science and math. Students will learn applied principles of science and
engineering to build a cool gadget or circuit each day using breadboards, conductive tape, buzzers, LEDs, UV,
filters, and more. Students will build a number of gadgets including: a cipher disk, UV activated ink, a
superhero power ring, a motion sensing power charging box, a superhero night-vision mask, a “laser” wrist
band, a telegraph machine that uses real Morse code, and a secret trip spy alarm. Best of all, student-built
projects go home at the end of camp so they can continue learning at home!

themed models. Spend time visiting the Wizard World by building your favorite wizard and his magical owl!
Build and give your despicable yellow movie characters a thrilling roller coaster ride with LEGO® bricks! Get
your amusement park ticket stamped as you turn games, food, rides and attractions into exciting model builds!
All this and more awaits! At the end of the week, all campers will go home with a custom Minifigure and camp

bricks! Campers will explore while building fantasy spaceships, speeders, droids and more. Camp stations

assortment of bricks and sets. At the end of the week, all campers will go home with a custom Minifigure and

C. Bielamowicz - CSI Forensics – Put on your detective hat and become a CSI investigator with hands-on
projects exploring forensic investigation. Learn the science behind fingerprinting, solve a crime with pH

minded student who loves to use their hands and see how things work!

A. Bendixen – Through music and movement the students will learn basic yoga poses that will stretch and strengthen them. Mindfulness, relaxation, and breathing techniques will be taught in a playful way to help the students focus and release stress in their busy daily lives. The class will resemble an adult yoga class but with a playful twist. Mindfulness will be our focus in this fun, noncompetitive class. Action Potential Learning - S. Pond – Dream up the coolest robot you can imagine - then create it! Students
will become the next great Lego® robotics engineers by using mechanical and engineering skills, and
programming logic to program uniquely functioning robots. Students will design, program, and build complex
robots to function in various ways - from battling bots to completing obstacles. Students will work in pairs to
design their own robots and build unique programs, and their skills will be tested in a new challenge each day.
Using the latest in Lego Mindstorms® EV3 Robotics, students will create and present their fully functional
robots each day by applying sophisticated programming skills learned in this camp. See also Week 3.

and camouflage . . . you are about to enter Jurassic Brick Land! Campers will build a world that comes to life
with gentle Brontosaurus, ferocious Velociraptor, terrifying T. Rex, and more. We will learn about amazing
dinosaurs that lived during the Jurassic period, and other extinct, prehistoric animals that roamed the earth and
swam the seas during that era and millions of years later. Show us your building skills using our specialized
project kits? Come learn, build and play at Jurassic Brick Land camp! At the end of the week, all campers will

Action Potential Learning-S. Pond – In this Part 2 Lego® EV3 robotics, students will expand upon the physics,
engineering, and mathematics principles learned in robotics building and programming to compete in exciting
new challenges. From launching projectiles to building autonomous robot games, students will test their own
engineering designs and programming skills in daily challenges. Students do not need to take Robotics I to
be eligible to take this class.

a blanket if you want.

A. Bendixen – Through music and movement the students will learn basic yoga poses that will stretch and strengthen them. Mindfulness, relaxation, and breathing techniques will be taught in a playful way to help the students focus and release stress in their busy daily lives. S. Bouis – Great simple tennis instruction for all ages to accelerate the learning of this lifetime sport. Great fun
and instruction. Racquets discussed at first class; bring yours if you already have one. These camps are held at
the Friendswood Junior High School tennis courts. In case of rain, report to the next scheduled class. Contact

Most FISD Summer Community Education activities are scheduled June 6-June 30 at the times and locations
listed in this brochure. A technology fee is included in the cost of all camps requiring use of computers.
Activities are open to all students who meet the age requirements. Register early to assure space in your
selected activities. Notifications made if classes not available. If you do not hear otherwise, please consider
your child enrolled. Classes with insufficient enrollment are subject to cancellation.
