BOARD
REPORT
Hello Arbour Lake Residents!
Thank you to all of you who participated in our Halloween Spooktacular event at the lake. We had over 700 residents come through the gates. A special thanks to our
MLA Michael Connolly & his assistant for joining in on
the festivities. The pumpkin carving contest had many
entries. Congratulations to Adele Robb for her 1st place
finish. Her “Safari “theme pumpkin was fabulous. The
wonderful thing about the contest is that it is judged by
Arbour Lake residents. Every person who comes to the
event gets a vote!
Family Bingo night was well attended on November 6th.
The Kid’s Christmas parties are on Saturday December
5th. The New Year’s Eve celebration is being held at the
lake again this year. We will be having a skating party
& fireworks. This event was well attended last year. We
hope Mother Nature will co-operate with us!
4
The winter program schedule is posted at the lake &
on our Facebook page, as well as on the ALRA website.
We will be bringing in our best people to teach skating,
hockey, and more. Please sign up at the lake. Don’t leave
it too long, these programs fill up quickly!
As the holiday season approaches, we will be collecting
toys for needy kids. Please drop off your unwrapped,
new toys to the lake office by December 15th. Arbour
Lake is one of the most giving communities & we appreciate all the help you have given us in the past. We never
have to look very hard for a helping hand.

very Merry Christmas & a prosperous New Year. We will
do our very best to bring a variety of exciting events and

WHAT’S UP
HALL
Lake Hours
The lake is currently open 9am-5pm. Lake hours will be extended once the ice is ready for skating.
Arbour Lake Seniors Group: Seniors come and enjoy a
coffee, play games, and socialize with other residents,
they meet Tuesdays from 1:00-3:00PM in the Arbour
Lake Residents Hall and always enjoy themselves.
AT THE LAKE
Lake Fees
Your invoice for your annual lake fee should be arriving
in the next few weeks, if it has not already arrived. Please
be advised that this fee is mandatory for all Arbour Lake
households and you cannot opt out of paying it. If your fees
are left unpaid, interest will start accumulating on the overdue balance as of February 1 at a rate of 18% per annum,
it is compounded monthly so be sure to get your payment
in before January 31st to avoid late fees. Fees can be paid at
the lake office by cheque or debit or through your online
banking. **Payment made by VISA or MASTERCARD is
subject to a 3.5% Convenience Fee**
Ice at the Lake
The lake typically opens for skating in mid to late December. Until then, KEEP OFF the ice! It can be very dangerous
and you are at great risk of falling through if the surface is
not thick enough. The ice depth needs to be a minimum of
10” thick for us to open our skating rinks, which will only
be on natural ice. The ice depth needs to be 15” thick for
the Olympia ice resurfacer. Please DO NOT throw rocks or
any other items onto the ice surface. Not only can the rocks
damage the Olympia, but they also can create holes in the
ice when the sun is out, making the surface extremely unsafe. If rinks are unsafe, that means no skating.
PROGRAMS
Parents & Tots Group: It’s a time to get the kids out of
the house to play with other children from Arbour Lake
while parents visit amongst each other in the Arbour
Lake Residents Hall. There is lots of toys and games
for infants to preschool aged children to enjoy while
parents enjoy a coffee and meet some new friends.
They meet Tuesdays 9:30-11:00am in the Arbour Lake
Residents Hall. There is always tons noise with toys and
laughs when they are there.
Arbour Lake Book Club: This group meets on the first
Monday of each month in the Arbour Lake Hall from
1:00-2:30pm. They chat about books and compare and
is a positive program.
Arbour Lake Adult Choir: The Choir join on Tuesday evenings from 8:00-9:00pm in the Arbour Lake Hall. They
have come and sang at our light the night and it is always excellent entertainment.
Look for the Flags
• Red flag = Full closure
• Yellow flag = Partial closure. Please call the office for specific details.
• Green flag = the lake is open for all activities
General Rules - “Helmets Rule At Arbour Lake”
• All skaters under the age of 18 should wear a helmet while
on the ice at Arbour Lake.
• Anyone playing hockey must wear a helmet. *NO EXCEPTIONS*
• Hockey sticks and pucks are only permitted on the designated hockey rinks.
Arbour Lake Light Display
We hope you enjoy the fabulous display that the lake staff
worked so hard at putting up! The lights will be on until
early January. On another note, please be on the lookout
and report anyone vandalizing the lights.

With winter here, please take extra care on our roads.
We know how important it is for Calgarians to get to
where they want to go safely and that is why The City
of Calgary Transportation Department has a plan to ensure our streets are made safe as soon as possible after a
snow storm. If you have any snow removal challenges in
your neighbourhood, please contact 311.
Looking back on 2015, we together as a community
have made a lot of progress on making Ward 2 more accessible and safer. This includes projects like the many
crosswalk enhancements throughout our communities, signal enhancements at Crowfoot Centre and the
opening of Sarcee Trail NW to 144th Avenue NW. Going
forward into the new year I will continue to value your
input on the priorities of Ward 2.
This holiday season let us take time out of our busy
schedule to assist those of us who are less fortunate in
our communities. Whether that is helping out a neighbour, giving food to a food bank or donating to one of
the many charities in our city, let’s continue to demonstrate why Calgary is the best place in the world to live.
From my family to yours: Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and best wishes for the New Year.

Arbour Lake Residents Association
2015 Year in Review
We have been very busy throughout the past year offering our
Residents a variety of Events and Programs to attend. Thank
you to all of the Lake staff and numerous volunteers for all of
your support in making these amazing events and programs
possible. For the second year in a row, we will be ringing in
the New Year with a Family New Year’s Event, complete with a
countdown and Fireworks display! We wish all of our Residents
a Merry Christmas & a Prosperous New Year and look forward
to bringing our Residents another amazing year of Programs
and Events in 2016! Below is a look back at all of our Events and
Programs from 2015.
Winter Programs
On Saturday, January 10, 2015 we had our first of the winter
skating classes that went wonderfully. Unfortunately we were
forced to cancel all the remaining classes to due warm weather,
which lead to a longer spring. The kids did enjoy the class that
had and hope to go much better the year coming.
Polar Plunge
On Saturday March 14, 2015 we hosted the third annual Polar
plunge in support of the Special Olympics. Together, with the
local law enforcement and the Calgary Corrections, we were
able to raise $19345.00! We had lots of jumpers in to the cold
water, so congrats to all the brave plungers, including the Arbour Lake Residents President, Ken Jones. Looking forward to
hosting another wonderful polar plunge next year.
Easter Event
On Sunday, March 29, 2015 we held our annual Easter Event
and over 500 people attended. We had Fruit Loop the Clown,
face painting and an egg hunt with treats and prizes for all. We
couldn’t host this fantastic event without all the help from the
volunteers from the YVC and our local residents.
ALRA Spring Family Bingo Night
On Friday, April 17, 2015 we put on our Family Bingo Night.
It turned out great with over 50 people attending and lots of
great prizes given out. Can’t forget to thank Marianne Hollingsworth for calling the bingo numbers! Was another HUGE SUCCESS and a favorite event for our residents.
Ladies Night
On Friday, May 22, 2015 we had our ladies night which was
an evening of fun, fashion and for Arbour Lake Ladies. We had
9 vendors set up at the hall for convenient shopping for our
residents. Each vendor donated a door prize which allowed us
to have fabulous draws at the end of the night for the ladies
in attendance. The feedback was super positive and both the
vendors and attendees had a great time! Watch for this event
again in 2016.

Canoe, Adult Canoe, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Water Safety,
Tennis, Tai Chi, Yoga, Bootcamp, Learn to Bike and Swimming
Lessons. They were a huge success and can’t wait for next years
to begin.
Kids Club
Kids Club was a huge success again this summer with some
days reaching more than 20 participants! This is a free drop in
program offered on weekdays in July & August. Parents can
drop their children off for an afternoon of games, crafts and
plenty of fun! This will definitely be a program added to our
Summer 2016 lineup!
AAIA Epi-Pen Family Fun Run
On Saturday, June 6, 2015 we held our second annual Epi-Pen
Family Fun Run and it was a great day!! This was a 2.5 km run
or 5km if you did it twice, with lots of fun activities afterwards.
Activities included a rock climbing wall, inflatables and draw
prizes. The weather was fantastic and we also had huge support from local businesses. We look forward to an even bigger
event next year to help raise awareness and funds for the Allergy and Asthma Information Association.
Arbour Lake Senior BBQ
On Wednesday, June 17, 2015 we hosted a BBQ event for about
100 Arbour Lake seniors in cooperation with the Arbour Lake
Retirement Residence. The weather didn’t cooperate with us to
enjoy the outdoors but a great time was still had by all our seniors. The Head Chef from the Retirement Residence prepared
an amazing variety if delicious foods as well as having plenty of
live entertainment.
Canada Day Breakfast
On Sunday, June 28, 2015 we had our third annual Canada Day
Pancake Breakfast which was another HUGE SUCCESS and one
of our most popular events. The weather was amazing and
could not have been better! We served over 750 breakfasts to
our wonderful residents while celebrating Canada’s Birthday.
We had a live DJ, the Froster Street Team handing out free
slushes, carnival games, Fruit Loop the Clown and Spring Free
Trampolines to keep everyone entertained.
Summer BBQ Celebration
On Saturday, July 11, 2015 we had our Summer BBQ which was
a HUGE SUCCESS! The weather was amazing and could not have

We had 2 surprise sundaes for the summer of 2015, the first
was in July and the second was in August. Many of our younger

forward to giving out more surprise sundaes next summer!

Zoo, Heritage Park, Butterfield Acres, Science Centre, Bow Habitat Station Southland Pool, Undercurrents Stand up Paddleboard Lessons, Prairie Winds Park, Fishing and Amazing Race.

to all the kids who joined us for super fun games, activities and
crafts at the lake. We’re looking forward to having you back
again next year.
Flowers
The flowers were planted in May 2015 and now the flower
season has ended so we hope it was well enjoyed. The staff
worked extra hard this summer to make the Arbour lake as
beautiful as possible. We’ve been able to enjoy beautiful flower
arrangements throughout the lake and community. Stay tuned
for what’s coming next year for flowers.
Fall Programs
On Sunday, September 20, 2015 Children’s Self Defense and
Adult Tai Chi began in the hall for our fall programs. We have
had lots of positive feedback. The classes last day are Sunday,
November 29, 2015. Hopefully we will have them run again.
Movie in the Park
On Friday, September 11, 2015 we had our movie in the
park and played the movie Big Hero 6. It was a great event
12
December 2015 I Great News Publishing I call 403-263-3044 for advertising opportunities
and had over 1500 people attend. Had a huge concession to
choose from, such as bottled beverages, hotdogs, popcorn,
candy bags, and ice cream. We also had Ward 2 Councillor, Joe
Magliocca and our MLA, Michael Connolly join us at this fantastic event. This ran very smoothly and can’t wait until next year’s
movie in the park.
Fall Dive Clean Up
On Saturday, September 26, 2015 Adventures in Scuba came to
do our Fall Dive Clean Up. Adventures in Scuba did an amazing
job when they came to clean the lake again this September.
You can help by putting you garbage in the labelled bins when
you come to the lake. Thank you Adventures in Scuba for organizing the Clean Up!
Halloween at the Lake
On Saturday, October 31, 2015 we had our Halloween event
at the lake. It had a great turnout with over 700 people. All the
residents loved our haunted house and couldn’t have turned
out better. All the submissions for the pumpkin carving contest
were greatly appreciated and congratulations to the winners.
