The impact of the Hubble Space Telescope on our
knowledge of the Cosmos
Piero Benvenuti University of Padova and Italian Space Agency (ASI) Abstract: The dramatic evolution of our understanding of the Universe that occurred during the last two decades is mainly due to the possibility of observing the Cosmos from space. In this respect, the Hubble Space Telescope, has played a major role, not only as a mere scientific tool for specialists, but also as a promoter of the intrinsic beauty and fascination of Astronomy among the general public. The talk will review the main achievements of this unique space observatory.
