Lucian R Ercolani, founder of ercol
Lucian Ercolani, my Grandfather, founded ercol in 1920 in the
heartland of English furniture making. Intent on designing and
producing beautiful and honest furniture, both design and people
were the cornerstones of his company from the very beginning.
This remains true of the family owned, private company that
continues his beliefs in the 21st Century.
Our passion for innovation in design and manufacturing
is as strong today as it always has been. Our 16,000 sq.m highly
sustainable factory combines the very latest technology with
time-honoured craftsmanship to create a range of unique pieces,
made with integrity and fit for purpose, designed by our very
gifted in-house team or as part of exciting collaborations with
wonderful external designers.
Over 95 years on, Lucian’s designs from the 1950s and 60s
still retain their classic and timeless appeal as part of the Originals
range, we are always developing and growing our themes to add
new and exciting collections and collaborations, ensuring that ercol
remains at the forefront of continued excellence in international
innovative furniture design and manufacture.

FLOW
The Flow dining chair is made from beautiful beech with
curvaceous form. The high level of craftsmanship is evident
through the refined sweeping lines, elegant tapered seat and
the ergonomic stacking function. This striking contemporary
design by Tomoko Azumi, reflects her aim of improving daily
life through design, its form and functionality creating
a stunning addition to ercol’s portfolio.
Flow by Tomoko Azumi
Born in Japan, Tomoko Azumi trained as an
architect before later studying furniture design
at the Royal College of Art. Following a ten
year partnership at AZUMI, Tomoko opened
t.n.a. Design Studio in 2005. Her designs are
synonymous with both stunning form and
superb functionality, improving the quality
of everyday life through visual aesthetic.

MARINO
Marino created in solid ash timber, references the qualities
and features of ercol design classics through considered design
aesthetic. Its elegance and flowing lines, featuring turned
elements, combined with exceptional craftsmanship create
a striking, contemporary armchair. New for 2016 is the Marino
sofa and footstool.
Marino by Dylan Freeth
Dylan Freeth has been part of the ercol design
studio since 2011; he has designed many
popular pieces of furniture including the Romana
sideboard which received the Design Guild Mark
Award for excellence in furniture design in 2014.
The latest of Dylan’s creations is the Marino,
inspired by his values of creating elegant, engaging
furniture with great attention to detail, values
shared by ercol.

PERO
A collection of contemporary pieces designed by Matthew
Hilton for ercol. The new Pero desk, low shelving unit and tall
shelving unit, made of solid white oak, are designed with a
light touch using a considered collation of modern materials
that make the surfaces appear to float.
Treviso by Matthew Hilton
Intimately associated with the revival of the British
furniture design scene, Matthew Hilton is one
of the most respected designers having been
awarded Designer of the Year at The British
Design Awards 2008. His involvement with ercol
and the stunning Treviso desk showcases his love
for classic design features.

RHO
Designed by Matthew Hilton, the Rho upholstery
collection follow his ethos of designing furniture to be
practical, functional and aesthetically beautiful. A refined
combination of the graphic solid oak frame balanced with
deep soft cushions and a curvaceous upholstered back
rest. The Rho collection complements the Pero collection.

TREVISO
The Treviso desk designed by Matthew Hilton captures an
element of architectural character, combined with a timeless
elegance, amplified through the natural beauty of solid, pale
oak or rich, dark walnut. The perfect pairing with a Butterfly
Chair from the Originals collection.

ROMANA
The Romana range is beautifully sophisticated and
understated, with soft contemporary outlines and smooth
edges, crafted from solid oak. Sculpted curves add subtle
detailing across joints, whilst shaped edges and surfaces
reflect the flowing lines of ercol’s iconic Originals design.

ORIGINALS
The ercol Originals collection boasts iconic pieces, first
launched in the 1950s and 60s. Many have remained in
constant production since and several have recently been
lovingly updated, remaining true to their original design.
With the beauty and colour of solid beech, elm and walnut,
the entire range represents timeless and classic design.
Originals by Lucian R Ercolani
Lucian R Ercolani, or the “Old Man”, as he is
affectionately known in the company, founded
ercol in 1920. Born in Italy in 1888, Lucian’s
family moved to London in the 1890s where
he studied drawing, design and the theory and
construction of furniture at night school. Lucian
was responsible for ercol’s furniture designs for
many years, drawing inspiration from the Chiltern
Hills, where he lived and built his first factory.

Nest by Paola Navone
An eclectic designer known for an untiring
curiosity in her search for matters and materials.
Paola Navone’s designs reflect a combination of
flavours and colours of the southern hemisphere
together with the taste and forms of the west; rich
in traditions, open and continuously in movement.

BY PAOLA NAVONE
A unique design, with a striking steam bent beech frame, cradles
deep cushions in an assortment of sumptuous textural fabrics, to
create an extrovertly designed, yet exceptionally comfortable set
of sofas. The Nest represents an illustrious collaboration between
Paola Navone and the ercol design team.
