Celebrate the seasons...
Gala Photo Gallery Inside
From the General Manager’s Desk
In October, the Club
celebrated the longanticipated Centennial
Gala, and did so in a style
that will be remembered
for generations. All were
proud of the club’s polished
appearance and would
surely agree it was fitting
for our centenarian club.
The images of the club that
have been captured that
night, both by the memories
Paul Kroll, CCM
of those in attendance
General Manager
and by the camera of
our photographer, will
undoubtedly have an enduring life. To underscore the
historic theme of our events over this past year, we
have set historic photos of the club out for viewing. the
subject matter of the photos were of mixed occasions,
some looked special and some mundane. Regardless,
there seemed to be universal responses to these photos.
Among them, was the wish of time travel, or to get closer
to the charmed moment captured in the old photo.
Today, members and staff have been expressing their
pride that on October 13th, 200 of our members have
contributed a magical moment for members to look upon
for decades to come.
We are all proud of the way the Staff and Gala Committee
worked together for months laboring over the details and
the execution. Thank you to members, Molly Rayo, Tom
Betti, and Dustin Holfinger for your insights on throwing
the Gala of the century.
From a service and food quality perspective, we are
thrilled to tell you that the heightened, wine-dinnerquality food and service is the new normal for our Private
Event (Banquet) team. In the past year, the frequency
with which The ACC Private Event team has been
receiving written praise from members and guests has
closely mirrored the rising polish in our performance.
Under the steady team focus of departmental leaders,
Private Events Director Kelly Cuson; Kristin Coburn (Asst.
Private Events Director); Rob Schneider (our new Asst.
Food and Beverage Director), and Executive Chef John
Wolfe, the quality of food and service has steadily been
rising. Although she wasn’t present at the gala (home
with new baby, Leo) our Director of Marketing and
2 | ACCent Magazine
Programming, Sarah Favara was instrumental in gala
planning and coordinating from the inception of the event
more than two years ago. Her talents are often “behindthe-scenes” as she chooses entertainment, designs
collateral, assists in room layout, and generally creates
the “mood” for many member events.
As the holidays fast approach, we are eager to share even
more fabulous evenings with our members. Don’t miss
family traditions like Thanksgiving at the Club (page 5),
Santa Brunch (page 9) and Candlelight Dinner (page 3).
Don’t be afraid to try some new experiences too: Wine
tasting and Cellar Sale (page 9), Sparkling Wine Education
(page 9), and the fabulous Martinis and Mistletoe (page
12)!
We’re looking forward to celebrating the season with you!
President’s Message
On
Thanksgiving, when you take time to count your
blessings, don’t forget to count the ACC among them.
For so many of us, the influences of this club on
our health, professional lives and families has been
significant. Whether you’ve been a member for many
years or just a short time, if you have become involved in
the club you’ve experienced the enormous benefits that
an ACC membership can bring.
Those of you who were able to be part of our 100 year
Gala, a spectacular evening for our club, we had the good
fortune to hear Dan Carmichael speak about the club and
the bright future he sees with the level of involvement
and commitment of our young people. A member since
1945 we’ve seen this commitment modeled in Mr.
Carmichael himself along with a number of other longtime members. We are fortunate that these members
have led the Club to its success today.
Those families who take advantage of our excellent
programs like Swim & Gym, or maybe even attended
when they were young (like Geoff Smith, Will Crall and
Tom Freiburger) know first hand the impact of having a
Club experience enrich your family life.
For those like me, the
chance to bike, swim, and
workout has in so many ways
benefited our health. Having
the classes, personal training
and resources that we find
in our Athletics Department
along with groups like Team
ACC creates an exceptional
athletic experience, and
makes healthy lifestyle
choices easier.
Lisa A. Antolino
Most important is the caliber
President
of members we have in our
club. We are afforded the
chance to interact with top
business, government and community leaders. Spending
time at the club to meet people is a benefit you cannot
afford to miss.
Do take the time to be active with the club, include
your family, serve on committees, and simply enjoy the
camaraderie to be found at the ACC.
Happy Holidays!

Fall Kicks Membership into Gear
Cooler Weather and Busy Sponsors Add Up
to Success for the ACC!
Historically, cooler weather is good news for ACC membership
and this year’s Fall is no exception! Back in August, though it was
still hot outside, thoughts were turning to indoor workouts, and
the ACC welcomed 22 new members. September rolled smoothly
along with 20 additional members joining us, and we ended the
month with a total of 1433 members.
These 42 new members were encouraged to join by our loyal
sponsors. Each sponsor receives a $100 Club credit card, in
addition to rewards for the new member. If you would like to join
the ranks of successful sponsors, please consider sharing your
Club with a family member, friend, or colleague. They will find
enjoy a great member experience, and you will receive a nice
“thank you” from your Club!

Athletics
New Services
& New Challenges
Dana Johnson
Athletic Director
The Athletic Club of Columbus is
dedicated to helping you stay fit/
healthy through the holiday season and
in 2013. We are eagerly anticipating
the return of the “I Lost it at the Club”
challenge to start off the New Year. This
8-week challenge will return with new
updates and improvements based on
member participation from last year.
To start off the Holiday season, the ACC
has a new challenge for you ~ “Stay Even for the Season.” The idea
came from member Mike Morrison. He proposed this idea to the
Athletics Department after the “I lost it at the Club Challenge”. Stay
even for the Season is simple; weigh-in before Thanksgiving, weighout after the New Year. Stay focused with weekly weigh ins, weekly
challenges & tips. The cost to you is $15. If you gain, you lose your
$15. If you stay even, you get a t-shirt. And if you lose, you get a
$25 Gift Card to the club. We encourage all members to participate.
Please stop by the 5th floor Athletics to sign up and make sure to
weigh-in before November 22nd.
Before this Holiday challenge takes place, the staff and group
exercise team are prepared to help you feel confident and
comfortable when working out here at the club. Our “Back to Basics
Day” was created to do just that. Join us on November 10th for all
the fun, expertise and education about a few of the classes the ACC
offers or come to refresh your knowledge about your favorite group
exercise class!
Come 2013, our New Year’s challenge is back! “I Lost it at the Club”
will help you get in shape, lose some weight and get credit for the
activities you already participate in around the club. We will have 5
overall winners – Male Highest % of Body Fat Lost, Female Highest
% of Body Fat Lost, Male Highest % of Weight Loss, Female Highest
% of Weight Loss, and Highest number of Activity Points. Recruit
your friends and current workout buddies, see if you can push each
other to reach the daily point maximum and encourage each other
to push yourself beyond your comfort zone for the next 8 weeks.
This year’s challenge will include an extra option for small group
personal training, called “Club Boot Camp.” Members may choose
1x a week, 2x a week, or 3x a week for 8 weeks to be instructed by
one of the personal trainers on staff. The Challenge starts Jan 14th
and will run until March 10th. Mark your calendars and look for
more information soon!
Other events to look for in 2013 include an indoor cycle-a-thon,
the return of the King/Queen’s Challenge, new small group training
options for moms, Fit and 50, and many more. We look forward to
continuing to challenge you in 2013. Please stop by the Athletics
Office on the 5th floor to stay connected with what is happening
around the club!
