The NE-10 is now the second largest Division II conference in the country and is comprised of 15 institutions, six from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, three each from New York and New Hampshire, and one each from Vermont, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Founded in 1980 as the Northeast-7, the charter members were American NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE Pace University enters its fourth season as a member of the Northeast-10 Football Conference after four years as an affiliate of the Eastern Football Conference. Pace was one of twelve charter members of the Eastern Football Conference, which was formed in 1997 for Division II non-scholarship programs from New England to New York. The Northeast-10 Football Conference consists of one 10-team standing in which each team plays nine regular season games against conference opponents with C.W. Post being an associate member of the conference. The top two teams play for the NE-10 title game after the conclusion of the regular season. Pace University, American International College, Assumption College, Bentley College, Bryant College, Stonehill College, Southern Connecticut State University, C.W. Post, St. Anselm College and Merrimack College make up the Northeast-10 Conference. Last season, C.W. Post won the Northeast-10 regular season championship. However, a title game was not played due to the Pioneers’ selection to the NCAA playoffs where they lost to eventual champion Grand Valley State in the first round. C.W. Post ended the season as the top defensive team the nation among Division II schools. In 2002 and 1999, the NE-10/EFC saw one of its players place in the top three in voting for the nation's Division II Player of the Year. In 1999, the conference welcomed St. Anselm College, who revived its football program after nearly 60 years, and Bryant College to the conference. The University at Albany, which no longer participates in the conference, claimed the first two championships in 1997 and 1998, and AIC won back-to-back championships in 1999 and 2000 after losing in the title game two years in a row. Currently in its third decade, the Northeast-10 Conference has established itself as one of the premier all- International College, Assumption College, Bentley College, Bryant College, the University of Hartford, Springfield College and Stonehill College. Saint Anselm was admitted to the conference in 1981 and Merrimack joined the fold in 1984, replacing Hartford, now a Division I institution. The conference expanded from eight to 10 teams with the addition of Quinnipiac and Saint Michael's in 1987. Springfield left the conference for Division III following the completion of the 1994-95 academic year. The conference returned to 10 teams in 1996-97 with the addition of Le Moyne College and then expanded to 11 in 1997-98 with the inclusion of Pace University. In 1998-99, the conference reverted to 10 schools when Quinnipiac shifted its programs to Division I. The NE-10 expanded to 15 institutions beginning with the 2000-01 academic year. The five new institutions included: Franklin Pierce College, the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, Southern New Hampshire University (formerly New Hampshire College), The College of Saint Rose and Southern Connecticut State University. In addition, the Northeast-10 Conference sponsors 23 championships including: men's and women's soccer, field hockey, volleyball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's cross country, golf, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's and women's lacrosse, football, and men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field. Early in the summer of 2003, the NE-10 added men’s and women’s swimming/diving and ice hockey to the championship slate. Timmerman has passed for over 2,000 yards in his two-year career at Pace while also throwing nine touchdown passes in that time. Last season, Timmerman passed for a career high 189 yards on 15-of-29 passing including two TD's against Stonehill on September 11, 2004. Timmerman has improved as a down field passer in his time at Pace, while his extensive knowledge of the Setters' Wing-T offense has proven invaluable. Timmerman will be a second year captain. His back up, Adam Headley (Shelton, CT), transferred to Pace from Division I Stony Brook University. Headley is a former all-conference quarterback out of St. Joseph's High School in Trumbull, CT. HALFBACK Dan Khahaifa (Newburgh, NY) will return for his senior campaign after starting for the last two seasons at halfback. Khahaifa will be looking to play a larger role in the Setters' backfield after splitting time for the past two seasons. Khahaifa is also the team's punt returner and is also on the kick return unit. Mitch Backus (North Babylon, NY) has seen playing team on both sides of the ball, and will add depth to the Setters' backfield as Khahaifa's backfield at the halfback spot. Newcomer Mark Castiglione (Stockholm, NJ) is a highly decorated athlete out of Wallkill Valley Regional (NJ). He was twiced named as a all-area selection at defensive back and will be looked on to add his athleticism to the other halfback spot. Joe DiVita (Fairlawn, NY), who saw limited playing time last season, will backup Castiglione. FULLBACK Reuben Sullins (New Rochelle, NY) will return for his senior season at the fullback slot. Sullins has been one of the top power runners in the Northeast-10 Conference since transferring to Pace from Mercyhurst prior to the 2003 season. Sullins has scored 11 touchdowns in his career at Pace. Regarded as one of the hardest working players on the team, Scott Shuryn will back up Sullins once again this season. Shuryn (Pompton Lakes, NJ) rushed for over 300 yards last season in a backup role, but will be looked upon to play a larger part in the offense this season. SPLIT END Keith Locascio (Cedar Grove, NJ) will look to bounce back from a season-ending knee injury sustained in last year's 2004 season opener against L.I.U. - CW Post. Locascio played just five games the previous season before sitting out with a back injury. He will be looked on to add another wrinkle to the Setters' offense. Richard Pinck (Hamburg, NJ) will be Locascio's backup after spending most of his freshman season at halfback and defensive back. Pinck is described as an athletic player with a ton of talent who could make things happen. TIGHT END Lee Robinson is another transfer from Stony Brook University who will contend for playing time at tight end. OFFENSIVE LINE Tom Aspinwall (Monroe, NY) is the returning starter at center. Aspinwall saw playing time last season after several starters went down with injuries. Kevin Dymond (Medford, NY) and Dan Cain will both see time at left tackle while Andrew Jagusiak (Staten Island, NY) and Gavrin Brown (Inwood, NY) will fill the left guard spots. James Cerny (Mahwah, NJ) and Mike Mattone (Franklin Square, NY) are two solid linesman who will share playing time at right guard. At right tackle, the Setters will feature a prep school standout in Joe Rickoff. Rickoff is a former all-county and all-state selection at Cheverus High School in Cape Elizabeth, ME. Adam Renwick will be converted from a tight end to backup Rickoff. DEFENSIVE BACK Dan Sullivan (Levittown, NY) was one of two Pace players to earn all-Northeast-10 honors last season. Sullivan will be looked on to anchor the Setter secondary at safety. Last season. Sullivan led the team with 73.5 tackles including five for a loss. Sullivan also had three interceptions while also breaking up five passes. Newcomer Jonathon Jones (Dover, NH), a talented prep school athlete, will backup Sullivan. Jones is a former all-state selection at defensive back out of Dover High School in Dover, NH. The cornerback positions go to returning starters Dan Reilly (Denville, NJ) and Kowalsky Lucien (Elizabeth, NJ). Both have extensive playing time and should add enough veteran experience to cause some problems on defense. Eric Hubbard (Oakland, CA) PACE UNIVERSITY comes to Pace after an outstanding season at Diablo Valley Community College in Oakland, CA. Hubbard will contend for playing time after totaling 72 tackles and six interceptions last season. Senior captain Jim Papcun (Hazlett, NJ) is the choice at the other safety position while Randy Boughton (Kingston, NY), who saw playing time last season as a freshman in the Setters' secondary and backfield, will be Papcun's backup. LINEBACKER Jason Ali (Keasbey, NJ) returns to the Setters' lineup after missing last season to injury. Ali is a former all-Northeast-10 selection, as well as a All-American honorable mention. Ali will patrol the inside with George Schreiner (Morris Plains, NJ), who filled in for Ali last season. Schreiner will start beside Ali after all-NE-10 selection Kevin Vradenburg graduated. Gabe Deleon (Oakland, NJ) and Joe Streany (Croton, NY), also a member of the Setters' lacrosse team, will backup Ali and Schreiner. On the outside, Bobby Guy (Fair Lawn, NJ) is a proven work-horse and one of the most dedicated players on the Setters' roster. He will be backed up by newcomer John Urchak (Totowa, NJ). Urchak is a former 1st team all conference and all section selection out of Passaic Valley HS (NJ), as well as the Section 13 wrestling champion. At the other outside LB slot, Dan Snyder (Medford, NY) and Ernst Turnier (Sttratford, CT) will split time between linebacker duties and will also play in the Setters' secondary. DEFENSIVE LINE Chris Parrish (North Babylon, NY) will move over from defensive tackle to anchor the defensive line at the nose guard position while Nick Liguori (Toms River, NJ) will back him up. First year captain Jarrett Foster (Nanuet, NY) will continue to raise havoc at the left tackle position. Foster totaled career highs in tackles and sacks last season while also ranking among the conference leaders in fumbles forced and fumbles recovered. Mike Coleman (Spring Valley, NY) and Dave Longo (Ringwood, NJ) will split time at the right tackle position. SPECIAL TEAMS Luigi Casale (White Plains, NY) will be the Setters’ place kicker after hitting on 7-of12 point-after-attempts, and averaging over 45 yards per kickoff. The Setters will look to Casale to handle most of their punting duties as well after the loss of Paul Sperone to graduation. On the receiving end, Khahaifa will handle punt returns after 19 returns for 66 yards last season. Khahaifa also returned 15 kickoffs for 204 yards. Jim Papcun, Rick Eggenberger, Kowalsky Lucien and Reuben also have kick return experience and provide other options. 11 MEET THE SETTERS KEITH LOCASCIO 1 Senior Split End 5’9” 160 Cedar Grove, NJ Cedar Grove HS WIll look to bounce back from season ending leg injury in first game of season. 2004: Missed all but first half of first game to injury...totaled five catches for 37 yards and one touchdown. 2003: Played in just five games due to a back injury...finished with 21 catches for 272 yards. 2002: Played in all 10 games for the Setters...finished with 22 catches for 311 yards...had a 39-yard TD reception against Stonehill in a 20-14 overtime win...had a 9-yard TD reception against LIU-CW Post in a 35-16 loss. 2001: Sat out via redshirt.
