When removing or replacing covers, take care not to damage any wiring. Verify that the covers are secure after replacing them. CAUTION Before you begin: • Clear the room of all debris and thoroughly clean the floors. • Check that manual air and water shut-offs are installed. • Purge any debris from air and water lines. • Check with local building and code authorities about installation requirements. Prepare the Chair NOTE When removing modules from their packaging, watch for kits and manuals included for the doctor (such as the A-dec 200 Instructions For Use). Set these aside during installation. Recommended Tool • 9/16" socket and ratchet 1 Remove everything from around the chair. Task 2. Remove the headrest. Task 2. 1 Loosen the setscrew. Chair Back Link 2 86.0004.00 Rev G Remove the back link pin. 5 A-dec 200 Installation Guide Task 3. 1 Raise the chair back. 2 6 Align the back link with the chair back. 3 Insert the back link pin with the groove under the setscrew. 4 Tighten the setscrew. 86.0004.00 Rev G A-dec 200 Installation Guide Anchor the Chair WARNING Anchoring the chair to the floor is required for mechanical stability. Failure to anchor properly could result in damage, serious injury, or death. Check the flooring and/or framing material where you will anchor the chair. If it is not at least 3-1/4" (82 mm) thick, contact a licensed contractor about reinforcing the floor. CAUTION Task 1. 1 2 Rotate the mount to the side. Install the bolt to secure the mount. Prepare the Chair If the chair is lowered with the mount centered on the chair as shipped, it will damage the product. CAUTION Recommended Tools • Diagonal cutters • 15/16" socket and ratchet • 5/32" hex key • Phillips head screwdriver Task 2. 1 Cut the cable ties. CAUTION 86.0004.00 Rev G Do not cut this cable tie. 7 A-dec 200 Installation Guide Task 3. 1 Remove the screw. Remove the pump cover. 2 If the system uses 240 volts, install the power plug. 3 Plug in the chair. Task 4. NOTE The Three-Tap function only works within the first five minutes of connecting the chair to power. 8 1 Tap the chair stop plate three times, and continue to hold the plate on the third tap. 2 When the chair is fully raised, release the stop plate. 3 Unplug the chair. 86.0004.00 Rev G A-dec 200 Installation Guide Anchor the Chair Task 1. Select the procedure for your type of flooring structure. Anchor to a Concrete Floor Recommended Tools • Drill • 12.5 mm (1/2") masonry drill bit • Hammer • 9/16" socket and ratchet 1. Place the anchor bracket on the chair’s base. 2. Mark where to drill the hole for the masonry anchor and move the chair. Place the anchor bracket here. 3. Use a hand drill and a 12.5 mm (1/2") diameter masonry bit to drill a 100 mm (4") deep hole for the floor anchor. 4. Use a hammer to drive the anchor into the hole until the washer is flush with the floor. Tighten the bolt so the anchor expands. 5. Remove the anchor bolt and washer. 6. Reposition the chair. NOTE Ensure the tubing and wires are positioned properly so they are not cut or pinched. Task 2. Anchor Bracket 7. Align the anchor bracket with the expandable concrete anchor. 8. Insert the anchor bolt and washer through the anchor bracket and into the expandable concrete anchor. Tighten the bolt until it is snug against the anchor bracket. 86.0004.00 Rev G 9 A-dec 200 Installation Guide Anchor to a Wood Floor Task 1. Recommended Tools • Drill • 9.5 mm (3/8") drill bit • 3/4" socket and ratchet 1. Place the anchor bracket on the chair’s base. 2. Mark where to drill the hole for the lag screw and move the chair. 3. Use a drill and a 9.5 mm (3/8") drill bit to drill a 50 mm (2") deep hole for the lag screw. 4. Reposition the chair. Place the anchor bracket here. Ensure the tubing and wires are positioned properly so they are not cut or pinched. NOTE 5. Align the anchor bracket with the hole. 6. Insert the lag screw from the kit through the anchor bracket and into the hole. Tighten the lag screw until it is snug against the anchor bracket. Task 2. Anchor Bracket 10 86.0004.00 Rev G A-dec 200 Installation Guide Install the Floor Box Cover Frame Recommended Tool • 5/32" hex key Task 1. 1 Place the frame over the ridge on the chair base. Task 2. 1 Use this screw from the kit to secure the frame. (The support center will be leveled in the next task.) 14 86.0004.00 Rev G A-dec 200 Installation Guide Rough Level the Support Center Recommended Tools • 3/16" hex key • 9/16" deep socket and ratchet • Level The support center sits on two leveling screws and a boss. The two leveling screws are accessed from the underside of the mount. The leveling screws are installed at the factory and extend above the mount. To level the support center, loosen the nuts on the four mounting bolts, adjust the appropriate screw or screws as needed, and retighten the nuts. Usually only slight adjustments of the leveling screws are required. Boss Access the nuts on the four mounting bolts from inside the support center. Mount Access the two leveling screws from under the mount to level the support center. 86.0004.00 Rev G Support Center 15 A-dec 200 Installation Guide The leveling screws adjust the level of the support center along two axes. Adjust this screw to level the support center along the left/right axis. Adjust this screw to level the support center along the front/back axis. 16 86.0004.00 Rev G A-dec 200 Installation Guide Task 1. 1 Place the level on the post in line with the support center. Determine which way the support center needs to move. 2 Slightly loosen the mounting nuts. 3 Adjust the appropriate leveling screws. NOTE We recommend lowering the screw or screws on the high side to level. Only very slight adjustments are required. 4 Tighten the mounting nuts. IMPORTANT After securing the support center, always make sure that all three contact points make contact with the bottom of the support center. 5 6 Reposition the level so it points away from the chair. 7 Repeat steps 2-4 as needed until the post is level for both positions of the level. 86.0004.00 Rev G Determine if the support center is level. Repeat steps 2-4 as needed until the support center is level. 17 A-dec 200 Installation Guide Route the Umbilical 1 2 6 Actual Size of Durr Clip 3 5 Complete this procedure in the order presented for the easiest installation. Be sure to route everything up through the bottom of the mount. 1. Route the drain tubing to the cuspidor. Use a Durr clip to connect the tubing to the drain. 4 2. Route the limit switch toward the drain tubing. 3. Route the wires and data lines to the side with the DCS board. 4. Route the tubing with the air manifold to the side with the solenoids. 5. Route the tubing to the side with the solenoids. 6. Route and connect the vacuum line. NOTE Make sure to pull the umbilicals up into the support center as far as possible so that they are not visible under the mount. 18 86.0004.00 Rev G A-dec 200 Installation Guide Install the Assistant’s Instrumentation Connect the Limit Switch Recommended Tool • 5/32" hex key 4 3 1 Remove the screw. 2 Pull down the cover. 5 Slide the bottom out. 6 7 86.0004.00 Rev G Plug in the limit switch. Slide the top of the end cover in place. Slide the bottom in until the holes align for the screw. Securely tighten the screw. 19 A-dec 200 Installation Guide Install the Assistant’s Instrumentation Holder Recommended Tool • 3/16" hex key 1 Use the screw from the kit to connect the assistant’s instrumentation holder. Task 1. Place and Route the Assistant’s Instrumentation Recommended Tool • Diagonal cutters 20 1 Place the high volume evacuator (HVE) in its holder. 2 Plug the vacuum canister into the support center. 86.0004.00 Rev G A-dec 200 Installation Guide Task 2. 1 2 Place the saliva ejector (SE) in its holder. Route the SE tubing through the hole on the left. 3 Slide the small washer onto the tubing. 4 Connect the tubing to the port. Actual Size of Small Washer 5 To create a strain relief, make a double loop with a cable tie that firmly holds the tubing without restricting flow. Route the syringe tubing through the hole on the right. Slide the small washer onto the tubing. Task 4. 1 Cut the cable tie. 2 Route the touchpad sheath through the hole in the middle. 3 Slide the large washer onto the tubing. TIP When setting the strain relief, leave enough tubing to match the drape of the HVE tubing. 86.0004.00 Rev G 23 A-dec 200 Installation Guide Install the Delivery System Prepare the Chair Circuit boards are sensitive to static electricity. Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) precautions are required when touching a circuit board or making connections to or from the circuit board. Circuit boards should be installed only by an electrician or qualified service person. CAUTION 1 4 Plug in the chair. 2 Move the jumper to the BSDN (Base Down) position. The chair will start to lower. 3 After the chair is all the way down, move the jumper to a SPARE position. Unplug the chair. IMPORTANT If the system includes an A-dec 334 or A-dec 335 delivery system, see the instructions (p/n 86.0494.00) that ship with the kit. 24 86.0004.00 Rev G A-dec 200 Installation Guide Install the Delivery System 2q Recommended Tools • 3/16" hex key • 5/32" hex key Task 1. 1 Pick up the delivery system and put it over your shoulder so one hand is free to route the tubing bundle. Route the wires and data line to the side with the DCS board. Route the tubing to the side with the solenoids. The tubing bundle stays inside the support center frame. Do not route it through the hole in the bottom of the support center frame or the covers will not fit properly. If you are installing a monitor mount, see the instructions in its kit (p/n 77.1323.00). You must install the adaptor before the dental light post. If you are not installing a monitor mount, continue with the next step. 2. Insert and fully seat the bearing in the support center post. 2 3. Place the trim cover on top of the bearing. 1 4. Route wiring down into the support center post. 5. Insert the dental light post. 6. Route the wiring out of the post into the support center. 5 86.0004.00 Rev G 29 A-dec 200 Installation Guide Connect the Utilities Raise the Chair 1 Install the Cuspidor Circuit Board in the Support Center DANGER Failure to turn off the power before you begin connecting the utilities can lead to electrical shock. Failure to turn off the power before you begin connecting the utilities can lead to product damage and result in serious injury or death. WARNING Circuit boards are sensitive to static electricity. Connect the gray wire with gray wire (24 VAC) and black wire (0 VAC) with black. 86.0004.00 Rev G A-dec 200 Installation Guide Connect the Support Center Electrical Wires and Data Lines Recommended Tool • 3/8" combination wrench Connect the wiring and data lines according to the following flow diagram. To Cupfill and Bowl Rinse Switches To Dental Light Cupfill switch and solenoid wiring are marked with cable ties. Do not connect to the green WAGO. It is used only with the A-dec 371-200 light. To Solenoids Doctor’s Touchpad Only. This connection is made only when the system includes a doctor’s touchpad. Connect the tubing according to the following flow diagram. To Delivery System To Assistant’s Syringe Brass Restrictor Barb To Auto Air Switches With Auto Air Switches If the system includes auto air switches connected to a single operatory vacuum, make the connections in this gray area. To Floor Box To Foot Control 2. From under the mount, tuck the tubing up and secure it with a cable tie so that it is not visible. 3. Plug in the white connector to AUXILARY OUTPUT POWER on the chair circuit board. Plug in the red connector. 33 A-dec 200 Installation Guide Connect the Dental Light (with a touchpad) Recommended Tools • Diagonal cutters • Phillips head screwdriver Task 1. 1 2 Snip off the red connector. Cut off the green wire at the end of the umbilical. 3 Strip back the remaining wires 6.5 mm (1/4"). Task 2. 1 2 Secure the dental relay circuit board with the screw from the top of the power supply. Tighten the top screw until the closest standoff just touches the chair back. Be sure not to overtighten. Standoff 3 Tighten the bottom screw until the closest standoff just touches the chair back. Be sure not to overtighten. Do not overtighten the screws. They are used to position the upholstery, not secure it. You should be able to wiggle the upholstery after the screws are installed. CAUTION Install the Headrest Upholstery Recommended Tool • Phillips head screwdriver 1 86.0004.00 Rev G Screw the headrest onto the upholstery. 39 A-dec 200 Installation Guide Prepare and Adjust the System Adjust the Headrest Tension Recommended Tool To increase tension, turn clockwise. • 1/8'' hex key To decrease tension, turn counterclockwise. Install the Water Bottle 1 Place an A-dec ICX® waterline treatment tablet in the bottle and fill the bottle with water. WARNING Do not let the ICX tablet directly touch your skin. Please refer to the instructions provided with the ICX tablets for more details. 2 Insert the bottle so that the A-dec logo faces away from the chair. 3 Rotate the bottle to the right 1-1/2 turns, taking care not to overtighten. Do not over tighten the water bottle or you can strip its threads. It is normal to hear a hissing sound for up to two minutes while the bottle pressurizes. CAUTION 40 86.0004.00 Rev G A-dec 200 Installation Guide Install the Delivery System Flexarm Rotation Stop Pins 1 Cut the cable tie. Remove the yellow card. Rigid Arm End Control Head End 4 2 Lift the trim ring. 3 Insert two stop pins, tapered end up. NOTE Lift the trim ring. 5 Insert the stop pins, tapered end up, in these two holes. Place the stop pins (actual size) with this end up. Do not adjust the flexarm rotation tension until the system has been leveled. For information on adjusting the flexarm rotation, see “Adjust the Delivery System Flexarm Rotation Tension” on page 56. Recommended Tool • Standard screwdriver Task 1. 1 Pull down the end of the cover to remove it. 2 Pull down the tubing. Task 2. To adjust tension, use a screwdriver to rotate the gear. When looking from the end of the flexarm with the control head: To increase tension, turn the gear clockwise. Actual Size of Pin 44 86.0004.00 Rev G A-dec 200 Installation Guide Adjust the Handpieces Recommended Tool • 3/32" hex key CAUTION Air and water coolant adjustment keys are not intended to completely shut off flow. Task 1. Adjust Water Coolant Flow 1 2 3 NOTE There is one drive air adjustment screw for each handpiece. Lift a handpiece from the holder. Flip the toggle to water. 5 4 Turn the air coolant, water coolant, and drive air all the way down. Adjust the water coolant flow until there is 1 drop every 2 seconds. Adjust the Drive Air Pressure NOTE Use a handpiece pressure gauge attached to the handpiece tubing for exact drive air measurement. Step on the foot control. 5. Adjust the Drive air pressure according to manufacturer’s recommendations. To increase flow, turn the key counterclockwise. Use four screws to secure the bitewing viewer. Attach the power cables. Connect the brown wire to the WAGO with the gray wire and blue wire to the WAGO with the black wire. 86.0004.00 Rev G A-dec 200 Installation Guide Adjust the Intraoral Light Source Voltage (if needed) Recommended Tools • 7/64” hex key • Voltmeter To adjust the intraoral light source, complete the following steps. 1. Use a 7/64" hex key to remove the control head back cover. 2. Set the voltmeter to DC voltage and place its probes on the IOLS output terminals for the handpiece you're adjusting. Use Buttons to Adjust Voltage 3. Lift the handpiece from its holder and turn the light on. 4. Use the buttons behind the terminal to adjust the voltage according to the following table. NOTE IOLS Output Terminals The values in following table are valid only for fiber optics with 26 AWG wires, 750 mA loads, and the recommended 3.2 VDC at the bulb. For fiber optics powered with 26 AWG wires and other ratings, use the equation T = (Z x 0.006 x Y) + X where: T = Terminal strip voltage (VDC) X = Desired voltage at bulb (VDC) Y = Rated lamp/load current (in Amps) Z = Length of 26 AWG wire (inches) from terminal strip to lamp For devices with a wire gauge other than AWG, please contact A-dec Customer Service. NOTE 1 Remove the two screws and end cap. 2 Remove the screw and end cap. 3 50 4 If the light drifts up, turn the nut counterclockwise. If the light drifts down, turn the nut clockwise. 5 Set the cover onto the flexarm to test the drift. Determine which way the support center needs to move. 2 Slightly loosen the mounting nuts. 3 Adjust the appropriate leveling screws. NOTE We recommend lowering the screw or screws on the high side to level. Only very slight adjustments are required. 4 Tighten the mounting nuts. The touchpad comes with the following preset positions: • Entry/Exit • Treatment 1 • Treatment 2 • X-ray/Rinse Program the Chair Positions NOTE Touchpad symbols are proprietary to A-dec Inc. Table 1. Chair Preset Positions Button Position Description Entry/Exit: Positions the chair for patient entry/exit. On systems with a doctor’s touchpad, also turns the dental light off. Treatment 1: Positions the chair base and back down. On systems with a doctor’s touchpad, also turns the dental light on. To program Entry/Exit, Treatment 1, and Treatment 2 buttons: Treatment 2: Positions the chair base down and back up. On systems with a doctor’s touchpad, also turns the dental light on. 1. Move the chair into the desired position. X-ray/Rinse: Moves the chair to either x-ray or rinse position. Press again to move the chair to the previous position. On systems with a doctor’s touchpad, also turns the dental light off or back on. 2. Press and release . One beep indicates the programming mode is ready. 3. Within four seconds, press the button you want to program and you hear three beeps confirming the button has been set. 86.0004.00 Rev G 57 A-dec 200 Installation Guide Cupfill and Bowl Rinse Programming for the Doctor’s Touchpad The cupfill controls water flow from the water bottle into a cup. The bowl rinse provides rinse water for the cuspidor. See Table 2 for those buttons preset run times. To change the timing for the cupfill and bowl rinse: 1. Press and release . One beep indicates the programming mode is ready. You can also enter the programming mode by pressing and holding both the Cupfill and Bowl Rinse buttons located near the spout. One beep indicates the programming mode is ready. NOTE 2. Press and hold the Cupfill or Bowl Rinse button for the desired amount of time. Table 2. Cupfill and Bowl Rinse Presets Button Position Description Cupfill Button: Controls water flow from the water bottle into a cup. • Press the Cupfill button for a timed operation. The factory preset is a 2.5 second fill. • Press and hold the Cupfill button for manual operation. Bowl Rinse Button: Provides rinse water for the cuspidor bowl. • Press the Bowl Rinse button for a timed operation. The factory preset is a 30 second rinse. • Press and hold the Bowl Rinse button for manual operation. 3. Release the button. Three beeps confirm the setting. TIP If you press the Bowl Rinse button twice in less than two seconds, the operation changes to continuous rinse mode. Press the button once to end the continuous bowl rinse mode. 58 86.0004.00 Rev G A-dec 200 Installation Guide Dental Light Programming for the Doctor’s Touchpad Use the Dental Light button on the touchpad to turn the dental light on or off. Table 3. Dental Light Button Button Description Dental LIght Button: Press to toggle between intensity settings. Press the button to turn on the light and hold the button to turn off the light. NOTE The switch on the dental light must be in the High Intensity or Composite position for the touchpad button to work. Press the Dental Light button to toggle between high intensity and composite settings. To turn off the dental light, hold down for two seconds. Auto Light Feature When you use a programmed chair position, the dental light turns on when the chair back reaches operating position. Press or and the dental light automatically turns off. To deactivate the auto light feature, press and hold and at the same time for three seconds. One beep confirms the auto light feature is off. To re-activate the auto light feature, press and hold and at the same time for three seconds. Three beeps confirm the dental light auto feature is on. 86.0004.00 Rev G 59 A-dec 200 Installation Guide Test the System After you have completed the installation of the A-dec 200 system, use the following checklist to test the system; then follow up with the customer. Dental Chair • The dental chair is securely anchored to the floor. • The chair functions properly, including the chair's lift, tilt, and programmable functions controlled by the touchpads and/or foot switch. • Headrest is functioning properly. Assistant's Instrumentation, Cuspidor, and Cupfill • Vacuum/suction is set to the following specifications: ○ Wet vacuum: 34±7 KPa (10±2 inches of Hg), 255 sl/min (9 scfm) minimum. ○ Dry/semi-dry vacuum: 16±3.5 KPa (4.5±1 inches of Hg), 340 sl/min (12 scfm) minimum. • Air and water syringe buttons operate smoothly. • Valves on HVE and SE move freely. • Cupfill timing is set properly (only with systems including a doctor’s touchpads). • Cuspidor flow pattern effectively rinses the bowl, and the bowl drains properly. Utilities • Regulated air pressure is at 550 KPa (80 psi). • Floor box is free of air and water leaks. Delivery System • The gravity drain is functioning properly. • The handpieces function properly and are set to doctor’s preferences: • Tubing and connections are not kinked and are free of air and water leaks. ○ Water coolant, air coolant, and spray. ○ Handpiece tubing flush. • Excess tubing and wires are coiled and stored away from moving parts. ○ Handpiece holder valves and switches. ○ Handpiece drive air pressure. • Counterbalanced flexarm functions properly. • Control Head is level. • Articulating arms do not drift. • Foot control operates properly. Dental Light • All light intensity settings work properly. • Dental light flexarm and head tension are properly adjusted. 60 86.0004.00 Rev G A-dec 200 Installation Guide Install the Covers Install the Pump Cover Recommended Tool • 5/32" hex key When removing or replacing covers, take care not to damage any wiring. Verify that the covers are secure after replacing them. CAUTION 1 Place the cover over the pump area. 2 Secure the cover with the screw on top. Install the Floor Box Cover 1 Slide the slots in the end of the cover down over the pins and toward the chair. 2 3 Slide the slots in the end of the cover down over the pins on the floor box cover frame.
