CANWIN ONLINE SURVEY—YOUR OPINION VALUED!
Dear CANWin Member, Associate or Southern Highlands Community
You might have noticed that the CANWin Website has had a makeover. The new style and new
organisation are the first steps to making it easier for you to browse the website, find current and
interesting information, and see what events are on.
The Website renewal is now at a stage where we need to ask you how you use the Web. We especially would like to know how you use social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, blogs and/or
letters to the editor. There are literally thousands of these “Social Media” Websites. It is important
for CANWin to choose the sites that matter most to CANWin members, associates and to the general Southern Highlands community.
For this reason we are asking you to take a moment to fill out this online survey. The information
collected will not be distributed to anyone. We look forward to reporting back to you on the results.
Thank you for your valuable feedback. Kindest Regards
CANWin Web Team

WEBSITE WORKERS WANTED
CANWin's web presence now consists of the website itself and pages on Facebook and Twitter.
At the moment two people are looking after all that, and we need lots more. At the risk of sounding
like a recruitment agency, we're aiming to build a team of people who, between them, can:
 Handle technical requirements for domain management, CRM, WordPress, phpBB, XML/HTML,
graphics, animation, social media, information architecture
 Propose, research, write, illustrate, edit and check facts for articles
 Put forward events, articles, illustrations, courses, videos for publicising
 Visit, comment, like, tweet, link and generally use CANWin online.
If you'd like to take part in any or all of this, whether you have years of experience or you'd just like
to have a go, please contact website editor, Sandra Oates, through the Website or on 4869 5992.

Nature Conservation Council 100% Ready forums
29 March, 6.30-8.30pm. Lecture Theatre 1, Building 20, Northfields Ave, Wollongong Uni.
3 April, 6.30-8.30pm. RB Smith Community Centre, 262 Crawford St, Queanbeyan.
NCC is showcasing real stories from the clean energy frontline that prove we’re 100% ready to start
making the switch. You’ll hear from workers, farmers, small businesses, big businesses, inventors,
investors and community leaders; all of whom are seeing big benefits for themselves, their communities and Australia from the work that’s going on around the country.
When you listen to these people, the message is clear: clean energy creates installation, assembly
and maintenance jobs in regional areas, it offsets energy price rises, it gives farmers income without
damaging the land, it provides returns to investors and creates a new sector which diversifies our
economy and keeps the money right here in Australia.
And, unlike coal seam gas, it does all these things while creating energy without polluting or contributing to climate change.
For more information, contact Sustainability Program Officer Fieke Geerts on (02) 9516 1488 or
email: [email protected]
Climate Change Balmain-Rozelle Film Evening: A sea change: imagine a world without fish
3 April, 6.30-8.30pm. Palace Cinema, 99 Norton St, Leichardt, Sydney.
Sven Huseby presents current research on the state of ocean acidification. Unless ocean acidification from CO2 is halted, marine scientists warn that we may wipe out fish stocks, and indeed end up
with a world without marine life. A Sea Change focuses public attention on this urgent but littleknown crisis. Email [email protected] for more information. more ...

REPORTS AND UPDATES
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, 4TH MARCH 2012.
We were fortunate to have the salubrious surrounds of the Berrima District Credit Union for our
2012 AGM. A big thank you to Jan Edwards!
It was possibly the largest turnout I’ve ever witnessed at an AGM for a small not for profit organisation, including . And again, Susan Brindle excelled with the catering, on top of guiding proceedings
during the meeting. Thank you Susan.
The review of the year’s achievements, despite difficulties, highlighted yet again what a dynamic
group of people have been committed to CANWin. CANWin has obviously grown from being a
fledgling organisation to being on the cusp of significant growth and 2012 is going to be a busy year.
We were sorry to lose Neil Podger as Treasurer, and David Tranter as Deputy Convenor, but we are
retaining their wisdom and contributions as ordinary committee members. And Sandra Menteith has
retired from the committee, but she will still be very active within CANWin. Welcome to new member, Simon Romijn, who is leaping in at the deep end as Treasurer.
The Committee for 2012 is:
Convenor:
Miles Lochhead
Deputy Convenor: Susan Brindle:
Secretary:
Philip Walker
Treasurer:
Simon Romijn
Committee members:
Claire Burniston
Lou Flower
Sandra Oates
David Tranter
Tim Edwards
Toni McLean
Neil Podger
In addition to reports by the outgoing Executive, the recently-formed working groups presented
reports on their activities to date and their proposed direction in 2012.
Sandra Oates and Claire Burniston reported on their work so far as well, along with their plans for
CANWin’s web presence for 2012.
Toni McLean launched our new magazine, sustainability Wingecarribee.
Following the meeting we were all treated to a great film Design for Life, which showed us that permaculture is not just about sustainable gardening and farming, but incorporates an holistic approach
with various energy wise projects at the Food Forest farm, including straw bale buildings, passive
solar housing, solar hot water, and solar panels for electricity.
Please feel free to pass this Bulletin on to others so we can spread the word about CANWin’s
activities in the Southern Highlands and help make our community the best it can be.
If you want to sign up to receive the e-Bulletin on a regular basis, email Toni at:
[email protected]
If you want to become a member of CANWin or take out a subscription to our new magazine,
“sustainability Wingecarribee”, fill out the membership / subscription form on page 3 and return to
Philip Walker, Secretary by post or email—details on page 3.
