The team produces user-friendly, customer-focused information and supports the listening or consultation process. One team is the Election Office, which administers all elections and referenda for which the Council is responsible, and the electoral register. The promotion of voter registration and election turnout are key activities. These centres will offer joined up face to face service to our customers on behalf of all Council services as well as its partners. The Telephonist / Receptionist team provides a switchboard service to South Shields Town Hall and a number of other buildings across the Borough, as well as managing the two receptions in the Town Hall. The group is organised into two Development Teams who work closely with user departments providing advice, support and technical skills in the development of systems that both provide efficient working and meet the goals and aspirations of the Council. It provides expertise for the procurement and development of IT systems and applications to meet departmental needs and support service delivery throughout the Council. ICT Customer Services Contact: Darran Milton, ICT Customer Services Manager Telephone: (0191) 424 7089 Email: [email protected] The ICT Customer Services team procures, configures, installs and supports a wide range of desktop computer hardware and software including desktop PCs, laptops, workstations, inkjet and laser printers, and scanners. The team provides the ICT Help Desk service, which is available from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, every working weekday, to help our customers resolve any technical problems they might encounter. The team creates and deletes network user accounts as needed, and also provides standard computer consumables, such as printer cartridges and toners. The team relocates Page 12 of 31 desktop computer equipment when customers move from one location to another and also conducts electrical safety tests on desktop computer equipment when required. A range of technologies, such as fibre optic, laser and wireless networking, are used to provide high-speed, cost effective data communications. The team also manages the resilient Internet link including the security systems used to prevent unauthorised access to Council information systems. The team also manages the Council’s telephone systems, mobile phones and Blackberry devices. The telephone system provides a wide range of options including direct dial inwards (DDI), caller line identification (CLI) and also voice mail services. New telephony systems that use voice over IP (VOIP) technology are being implemented to maximise the use of the data communications network and to reduce telephony costs. Server Support Contact: Michael Moffett, Server Manager Telephone: (0191) 424 7092 Email: [email protected] The Server Support Team is responsible for the provision and support of server, storage and data security systems used by the Council. A number of computer servers are used to host all of the management information systems used, such as Council Tax, Payroll, Financial Systems, SWIFT etc. The data held on these servers is secured to backup tapes using the automated tape library management system. The team also manages the Council’s Exchange service (which provides e-mail, calendar, diary and task management facilities), the e-mail security services (to prevent viruses, spam and inappropriate e-mail entering the Council), and the CITRIX service (which allows information systems to be accessed via remote communications links). Security systems, such as anti-virus and patch management, are managed by the team and the ICT and Information Security Officer provides policies, procedures, advice and guidance on a wide range of information security issues, as well as monitoring and managing security incidents.
