Barton wordmarks
What is a wordmark?
The Barton Community College
wordmark is a custom-designed
mark and is trademarked.
It is the primary mark that identifies
Barton Community College. It is
required to appear on all external
publications, web sites and other
visual communications.
The wordmark is used for office and
department logos. It is also an option
for program and organization logos.
The What Drives You? marketing
slogan can also be combined with the
wordmark.

Barton seal
The Barton seal is designed to
be used on diplomas, official
documents and for other official
purposes.
Use the seal with permission by the
Director of Public Relations and
Marketing.

Program logos
Barton First, Program Second: The
key to an effective program logo
that follows the Barton brand is to
put Barton first, not the individual
department or program. Programs
are to enhance the overall, uniform
message of the College.
Program logo options in
stacked and horizontal format
Academic and Workforce Training
program logos will follow Barton
style guidelines. Program logos
may include universally accepted
professional emblems, affiliations,
and/or certifications but may
not include mascot graphics.
*Universally accepted professional
emblems, affiliations, and/or
certifications may be used with the
following considerations: a) The
inclusion enhances the marketing
of Barton’s program and b) The
inclusion is approved by the
Director of Public Relations and
Marketing.
Approved driven statements may
be added under program logos.
Requests for this art work need to be
made to the Department of Public
Relations and Marketing.

Barton Community College Brand Guidelines
Program, Office & Organization logos: Option Two
Available for use in professional
representation and other marketing activities. Note that due to the
length of program, office or organization names, one style allows for
the name placement under Barton.
The other style allows for the name
placement to the right of Barton.
PROGRAM LOGOS
 P
rogram logo with universally accepted professional emblem
Color options will be all blue, all
gold, or two-color as shown below.
 P
rogram name full width cannot be smaller than 18 pt Eras Medium
at wordmark width of 3 inches.
Long names will need to be placed
in two lines as shown.
 P
rogram name must extend to the left of the descending tail of the R
to use the name under BARTON. Agribusiness extends past balance
weight line so it is acceptable.
Program, office and organization
names may be stacked under Barton
as shown as long as the name is
not wider than Barton and overall
balance is maintained.
 MLT is too short. Must use horizontal option below.
OFFICE LOGOS
Note: The same test applies for offices.
LIBRARY is too short. Must use horizontal option below or use office
wordmark found on page 4.

Mascot graphics
All non-academic programs can use
the mascot graphics for letterhead,
envelopes and business cards.
However, usage must maintain
the guidelines of the Barton brand
and be approved by the College’s
Director of Public Relations and
Marketing and its Graphic Designer.

The fill on the cougar head will either be
white or transparent.
WHITE FILL COUGAR 
TRANSPRENT (NO FILL) COUGAR 
LOGOS REVERSED ON BLACK
Graphics are prepared for reversing the
artwork on black. Any art work using the
cougar head or the claw paw requires a
white background fill shape when placed
on a black background. Do not turn the
black fill to white for placement on a black
background.
WHITE FILL IS PRESENT 
INCORRECT: BLACK FILLED WITH
WHITE TO MAKE REVERSE 
Note: the black background is
included with the art on black
reversed graphics so the image is
accommodating to as many software programs as possible.
Note: white cougar allowed for
transparent effects.

Using the graphics
Clear space:
When placing graphics around the program, office or organization logos, allow a clear space of half the

The Barton wordmark is designed using the Eras font.
Some of the letterforms have been hand drawn to create
the logo design. Because of this, Eras cannot be used to
type out the word Barton in an attempt to recreate the
wordmark.

ITC Eras is a French typeface designed through the
collaboration of two French designers, Albert Boton and
Albert Hollenstein. ITC Eras has charm, distinction, and a
lively quality that’s rarely seen in sans serif typefaces. Its
sweeping strokes and compound curves owe more to the
heritage of broad-tipped brushes than the ruling pen.
The ITC Eras family was released in 1976.

Rapier is a contemporary, calligraphic script typeface
produced by distinguished British type designer Martin
Wait.
“Looking back, lettering and type design was probably a
strange career choice,” says Martin Wait. “I’m color-blind
and dyslexic.” The career choice may have been strange
but, with over two-dozen popular display type designs and
many logotypes to his credit, it was certainly the right one.

Palatino is a serif font choice mainly used for

Palatino

Bold Italic
The Palatino™ typeface was first designed over 50 years
ago by Hermann Zapf, and is probably the most universally
admired and used of his type designs. In 1950, it was
punchcut in metal by August Rosenberger at D. Stempel
AG typefoundry in Frankfurt am Main, and then adapted
for Linotype machine composition. Zapf optimized
Palatino’s design for legibility by giving it open counters
and carefully weighted strokes, producing a typeface that
was legible even on the inferior paper of the post-World
War II period. The font was named after Giambattista
Palatino, a master of calligraphy from the time of Leonardo
da Vinci. Palatino is a typeface based on classical Italian
Renaissance forms. It has become a modern classic in
itself, and is popular among professional graphic designers
and amateurs alike. Palatino works well for both text and
display typography.

An Adobe Originals design first released in 1992, Myriad
has become popular for both text and display composition.
Designed by Robert Slimbach & Carol Twombly with
Fred Brady & Christopher Slye, Myriad has a warmth and
readability that result from the humanistic treatment of
letter proportions and design detail. Myriad Pro’s clean
open shapes, precise letter fit, and extensive kerning pairs
make this unified family of roman and italic an excellent
choice for text typography that is comfortable to read,
while the wide variety of weights and widths in the family
provide a generous creative palette for even the most
demanding display typography.

The original Museo’s most striking characteristics are in the
whimsical shapes and placement of the asymmetric serifs.
Lacking those signature accessories, Museo Sans may be
less immediately recognizable — but that doesn’t mean
it’s boring! Its clarity and legibility are remarkable, it has
some lovely details and its wide range of numerals is both
attractive and practical.

PT Sans was developed for the project “Public Types of
Russian Federation.” The main aim of the project was to
give possibility to the people of Russia to read and write in
their native languages.
The project is dedicated to the 300 year anniversary of the
civil type invented by Peter the Great in 1708–1710. It was
given financial support from the Russian Federal Agency
for Press and Mass Communications.
The fonts include standard Western, Central European
and Cyrillic code pages, plus the characters of every title
language in the Russian Federation. This makes them
a unique and very important tool for modern digital
communications.
PT Sans is based on Russian sans serif types of the second
part of the 20th century, but at the same time has
distinctive features of contemporary humanistic designs.
The PT Sans family is a sans serif font for the external
Barton websites.

Q. Where are the Barton Brand artwork files
located?
A. I f you are located on campus, the files are saved
in T:\BartonBrand. Many file formats and color

you are looking for or the formats do not work
for your application or purpose, please contact
