The Rockwell City Chamber is seeking candidates for
the upcoming Sweet Corn
Daze Royalty Pageant. The
“Sweet Corn Daze Princess”
will reign over the Sweet Corn
Daze Events, eat as much
“free” sweet corn as she would
like and serve as a role model
to all future Princesses.
Candidates must be 12 to 15
years of age by the date of the

and in the South Central Calhoun School District.
The 2015 Sweet Corn Daze Princess will be judged on
Saturday morning, August 6th at the Expo Building at
the City Park at 9:30 am. Coronation of the Princess will
be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the
Sweet Corn Stage in the City Park.

Lisa Jean Roby
1963 - 2016
Lisa Jean Roby passed away at the
age of 53 on July 23, 2016, following
a courageous and hard-fought ninemonth battle with leukemia.
Born January 19th, 1963, she was
welcomed home by her parents, John
and Shirley Roby, and three siblings,
Bob, Mike, and Steven. Surviving the
daily torment of three older brothers,
she quickly became the apple of her
father’s eye. A dedicated cheerleader,
she graduated from Rockwell City
High, a member of the Class of 1981.
After leaving home, Lisa attended
Simpson College for one year. In
1984, she was blessed with a son, Logan. Roughly a year later, she moved
to California with her then husband,
Mike Stone, as he pursued service in
the U.S. Army. During their time on
the west coast, they lived in Salinas
and Monterrey, CA as well as Washington. Lisa worked at the beautiful
and historic Fisherman’s Wharf as well
as a grocery store bakery. In 1988, she
was blessed with a daughter, Aspen.
They moved home to Rockwell City
soon after, and Lisa worked as a cook
for several years at Rockwell City
schools, and Sunny Knoll and Shady
Oaks Care Centers, where she loved
talking and laughing with residents.
In 2001, Lisa went back to college
and answered her true calling as a
Registered Nurse. She worked for
three years at Mercy Medical Center
in Des Moines in the Cardiac Unit.
Later, she cared for patients at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital
in Lake City and at the Pocahontas
Hospital. She was blessed to realize
her most recent passion as Grandma,
a role in which she found great pride
and pleasure.
The loss of Lisa’s life is mourned
by the Roby family and many friends
who share her love for people, laughter, and fun-times. She leaves behind
her son Logan, grandsons Brendan,
and T.J., her daughter Aspen, granddaughter Greeley, and grandson
Boulder. Additionally, she is survived
by her mother, Shirley, her brothers
and their families: Bob and Vicki, Jamie (Cory Ridgely, Kaylynn, Jade, and
Mya) and Justine (Alex Baker, Ellason
and Kylon); Mike and Vicki, Michelle
(Dave Jakeman, Trice, Tori, and Trigg),
Shaun (Jenny, Breonna, Baylee, and
Bryce), and Jason; and Steven (Donna), as well as her Uncle, Jon (Rhonda) Clark, sons and their families. She
was preceded in death by her father,
John Roby, and her grandparents,
Virgil and Helen Clark and Clyde and
Gladys Roby.
At Lisa’s request, there will be no
funeral services, as she preferred to
be remembered with thoughts of
laughter and celebration rather than
sadness. Her remains will be cremated and buried at the Roby family
cemetery. Those wishing to express
their sympathies may mail cards or
memorials to her home, in care of the
Lisa Roby Family, 104 1st Street, Rockwell City, Iowa 50579.
