Willkommen zur FEI Europameisterschaft Reining 2011!
Im Namen der ARHA Austria begrüße ich
alle Teilnehmer und Besucher zur FEI Europameisterschaft Reining 2011 in Wiener
Neustadt. Drei Tage lang kämpfen die besten Reiter und Pferde aus zehn Nationen
um die begehrten Titel und Medaillen. Jeder einzelne von ihnen hat hart dafür gearbeitet, auf dieser Europameisterschaft
starten zu können. Daher ist allein schon
die Teilnahme eine große Leistung. Besonders freue ich mich, dass wir Gastgeber der
zweiten EM der Junioren und Jungen Reiter sind. Hier treten jeweils sechs Mannschaften gegeneinander an, dazu zahlreiche
Einzelreiter.
Ich bedanke mich bei allen Besitzern, die
ihre Pferde für diesen internationalen Wettkampf zur Verfügung gestellt haben, den
Sponsoren, ohne die ein Event dieser Größenordnung nicht möglich wäre, und natürlich allen Freiwilligen und Helfern.
Allen Teilnehmern wünsche ich viel Erfolg,
fairen Wettkampf und nicht zuletzt auch
Freude mit unserem großartigen Sport.
Welcome to the 2011 FEI European
Reining Championships!
On behalf of ARHA Austria I’d like to
welcome all exhibitors, owners and visitors to the 2011 FEI European Reining
Championships at Wiener Neustadt. For
three days, the best riders and horses of
ten nations will compete for the prestigious titles and medals. Each of them had to
work hard for the chance of riding for his
or her country at this very special event.
Being a nation’s representative here, is a
great achievement in itself. Especially I am
happy that our event also hosts the second
European Championship for Juniors and
Young Riders. Here, we will see six teams
in each division plus numerous individual
riders.
I would like to thank all owners for allowing their horses to compete in this international event as well as the sponsors
and helpers. Without them, an event of this
class would not be possible.
Good luck and fair competition to all our
exhibitors – may the best win! And may you
all have great fun with our wonderful reining sport.

A nome della ARHA Austria vorrei dare
il benvenuto a tutti i concorrenti, ai proprietari e al pubblico presente a Wiener
Neustadt per l‘edizione 2011 dei FEI European Reining Championships. In questi
tre giorni vedremo shierarsi in campo i
migliori cavalli e cavalieri provenienti da
dieci nazioni. Competeranno per aggiudicarsi questi prestigiosi titoli e le medaglie
FEI. Ognuno ha dovuto lavorare duramente per rappresentare il proprio paese in
questo evento speciale. Sono orgoglioso in
particolar modo di poter ospitare la seconda edizione dei Campionati Europei riservati ai nostri giovani cavalieri, i Juniors e
Young Riders. Saranno sei le squadre che
vedremo, oltre ai cavalieri individuali.
Desidero ringraziare tutti i proprietari per
aver permesso ai loro cavalli di competere
in questo evento internazionale e naturalmente tutti gli sponsor e i componenti dello
Staff. Senza di loro non sarebbe stato possibile disputare questo evento.

Foreword by the FEI President
On behalf of the Fédération Equestre Internationale, it gives me great pleasure to
welcome you to the FEI European Reining
Championships for Seniors, Young Riders
and Juniors 2011 at Wiener Neustadt, Austria. Some time ago there were already 10
nations listed to start in this event which
will showcase the top European athletes
and horses in this popular and ever-growing sport.
At Kreuth in Germany two years ago it was
the host nation that dominated the team
events when taking gold in both the Senior and Young Riders Championships while
Italy claimed the Junior team honours.
However the Italians were double-winners
in the individual competitions, with gold in
both the Junior and Young Rider divisions,
leaving Germany’s Nina Lill to clinch the
Senior title.
Senior athletes must achieve a minimum
score in order to qualify for these Championships as either an individual or team
member, and we can expect competition of
the highest calibre over the next few days.
The German team may prove difficult to
beat as they strive for their fourth team
gold but the opposition is expected to put
them under plenty of pressure and they will
need to perform their “patterns” to perfection if they are to succeed.
I wish all the competitors the very best of
luck ahead of this great week of sport.
And to the organisers, officials, supporters,
horse-owners, spectators and the many
volunteers without whose help this event
could not take place, I send my best wishes
for a thoroughly enjoyable Championship
fixture, conducted in a spirit of comradeship and horsemanship.

Reining in Wiener Neustadt. 10 Nationen
gehen bei diesem Event an den Start, darunter die besten Pferde und Reiter Europas.
Bei der letzten EM in Kreuth ging die Goldmedaille bei den Senioren (Mannschaft
und Einzel) und bei den Jungen Reitern
an Gastgeber Deutschland. Italien errang
Mannschaftsgold bei den Junioren sowie
Einzelgold bei den Jungen Reitern.
Uns erwarten in den nächsten Tagen spannende Wettkämpfe und sicherlich herausragende Ritte. Das deutsche Team wird alles
daran setzen, zum vierten Mal Gold mit
der Mannschaft zu erringen. Sie muss sich
jedoch hochkarätiger Konkurrenz stellen;
der Druck wird ungeheuer groß sein.
Ich wünsche allen Teilnehmern viel Erfolg
in dieser Woche.
Den Organisatoren, Offiziellen, Pferdebesitzern, Sponsoren und Zuschauern sowie
den vielen Freiwilligen, ohne die dieses
Event nicht möglich wäre, sende ich die

Liebe Pferdesportfreunde,
im Namen des Österreichischen Pferdesportverbands darf ich Sie herzlich zu den
FEI European Reining Championships der
allgemeinen Klasse, Jungen Reiter und
Junioren in Wiener Neustadt willkommen
heißen. Von 26. bis 28. Juli 2011 geht im
schönen und gepflegten Western Training
Center H&D Schulz die Post ab. Das Who
ist Who der internationalen Reiningszene
gibt sich ein Stelldichein und Zuseher erwartet ein Pferdesporterlebnis der Extraklasse. Es wird spannend, ob die deutsche
Mannschaft ihre Erfolge der vergangenen
EM in Kreuth 2009 wiederholen kann
oder ob andere Nationen punkten werden. Wer die Hausherrn und das fleißige
Team rund um Gerda Langer kennt weiß,
dass das Turnier perfekt organisiert ist und
keine Wünsche bei Teilnehmern, Pferden
und Fans offen bleiben. An dieser Stelle ein großes Dankeschön an die gesamte
OK-Mannschaft sowie an die zahlreichen
freiwilligen Helfer im Hintergrund. Ohne
ihr großartiges Engagement wären Events
dieser Größenordnung in Österreich nicht
durchführbar.

the German team that earned team and individual gold in 2009, will be able to repeat

nations will be able to claim the prestigious
title. Those who know the owner and host
of this facility as well as the professional
team of Gerda Langer, also know that this
is going to be another perfectly organized
show for exhibitors, horses and fans. A big
thank you to all of the organizing team as
well as all the helpers in the background.
Without their dedication and great job they
are doing, an event of this size could not be
managed in Austria.

Ralf Hesselschwerdt lebt in Zwingenberg an der hessischen Bergstrasse. Der Diplom Ingenieur für
Architektur und Homöopath ist dem Westernreitsport seit über 20 Jahren verbunden. Er hat die Richterkarten der NRHA, AQHA und FEI. Zu den von ihm gerichteten Turnieren zählen die FEI WEG in Jerez
2002, Aachen 2006, Lexington 2010, die NRHA Futurity USA 2007, das Italian Reining Derby und
Maturity, die NRHA European Affiliate Championships, das WRC Mooslargue, Tumbleweed Challenge
und viele mehr.

Dr. Hilde Jarc ist etwa 40 Jahren in fast allen Sparten des Reitsports aktiv. Ihr größter sportlicher Erfolg
war der Europameister Titel im Distanzreiten 1985. Die Chemikerin ist hauptberuflich im Gesundheitsministerium tätig und war mehr als 20 Jahre lang Referentin für Westernreiten in der österreichischen FN
bis zur Aufnahme der Reining durch die FEI. Sie hat die NRHA und FEI Richterkarte und richtete u.a. die
NRHA European Affiliate Championship 2007 sowie NRHA Shows und CRI in Österreich, Tschechien,
Belgien und Dänemark.
Dr. Hilde Jarc has been dedicated to almost all disciplines of riding for almost 40 years now. She was
an European Champion long distance riding in 1985 herself. She is a chemist who works for the Austrian
Ministry of Health. For more than 20 years, Dr. Hilde Jarc worked as an advisor for western riding in
the Austrian National Federation. As an NRHA and FEI judge, her accomplishments includethe 2007
NRHA European Affiliate Championship as well as NRHA shows and CRI in Austria, Belgium, Denmark
and the Czech Republic.
Rick Lemay kommt aus Angelholm in Schweden. Der Profitrainer war unter anderem fünf Mal High
Point Open Rider Scandinavian Reining Horse Assoc. und trainierte und showte viele Pferde zum International high point reining horse, zum Swedish Champion Reining und zum AQHA World Show Reining
qualifier. Lemay ist seit vielen Jahren als AQHA, NRHA und FEI Richter und hat viele nationale und
internationale Turniere gerichtet.
Rick Lemay is from Angelholm in Sweden. He is an AQHA approved judge since 2003 as well as an experience NRHA and FEI judge. Is accomplishments include five time high point open rider Scandinavian
Reining Horse Assoc.; International high point reining horse – ’96, ’98, ’99, ’00, ’01; Swedish Champion
Reining – ’96 – ’02; AQHA World Show Reining qualifier – ’96-’00 & ’02. Rick Lemay has judged numerous top national and international events.

Francois Zurcher kommt aus Genf in der Schweiz. Der selbständige Steuerberater und Rechnungsprüfer ist seit vielen Jahren als NRHA und FEI Richter tätig. U.a. hat er die NRHA Futurity USA (Oklahoma) gerichtet, die Belgium und French Futurity, das Italian Derby and Maturity, die NRHA European

Francois Zurcher (SUI)
Francois Zurcher is self employed as an accountant and tax adviser in Geneva, Switzerland. He is an
experienced NRHA and FEI judge. His major shows include the NRHA Futurity USA (Oklahoma), the
Belgium and French Futurity, Italian Derby and Maturity, NRHA European Futurity and NRHA European Affiliate Championship, CS Classic, FEI European Reining Championship, FEI World Reining
Championship, World Reining Masters, Reining World Finals and other miscellaneous CRI 1, 2, 3 and 4 *.
Faszination Reining
Die Manöver
Das Regelbuch kennt elf verschiedene
Aufgaben (Patterns) unterschiedlichen
Schwierigkeitsgrades. Jede Pattern setzt
sich aus sieben bis acht verschiedenen Manövern oder Lektionen zusammen. Hierzu
zählen der Sliding Stop, bei dem das Pferd
aus vollem Galopp zum Stehen kommt
und dabei meterweite auf der Hinterhand
gleitet, der Spin (rasante 360° Drehungen
auf dem inneren Hinterfuß), schnelle und
langsame Zirkel mit fliegenden Galoppwechseln, schnelles Rückwärtsrichten und
Rollbacks (180° Drehungen aus dem Sliding Stop). Jedes Manöver wird gesondert
bewertet. Der Reiter beginnt seine Aufgabe
mit einem Guthaben von 70 Punkten. Die
Manöver werden in ½-Punkt Schritten von
–1 ½ bis + 1 ½ benotet, wobei 0 korrekte
Ausführung ohne Schwierigkeitsgrad bedeutet. Dazu gibt es Strafpunkte (Penalties)
für Fehler. Die Summe aller Einzelbewertungen ergibt den Gesamt-Score.
Das Reiningpferd
Reining – das ist Adrenalin pur! Kaum
jemand kann sich der Faszination dieser
Westernreitsportdisziplin entziehen, wenn
er zum ersten Mal einen guten Reiter auf
einem voll ausgebildeten Pferd sieht. Ra-
sanz und Harmonie zwischen Pferd und
Reiter und ein wenig natürlich auch der
Hauch des alten Westens machen diese
Disziplin zu der am schnellsten wachsenden im Westernreitsport.

reiterspiele (Anm.: CRIO ist wie z.B. CSIO Nationenwertung, in der die Länder in Viererteams antreten).
Weltreiterspiele in Jerez (Spanien): zum ersten Mal ist Reining
mit dabei.

Deutschland wird zum zweiten Mal Mannschafts-Europameister.
Erste eigene FEI Weltmeisterschaft Reining: Deutschland gewinnt Bronze
Erste FEI Europameisterschaft auch für Junioren und Junge Reiter.
Reining stellt hohe Anforderungen an Körper und Psyche des Pferdes. Grundsätzlich eignet sich jede Pferderasse für diese
Sportart, solange sie die körperlichen und
psychischen Voraussetzungen mitbringt.
Reining Pferde sind meist kleine, kompakte und wendige Pferde, die über viel
Kraft und Ausdauer sowie ein starkes Nervensystem verfügen. Nicht jedes Pferd ist
von den Nerven her dem hohen Tempo
gewachsen. Im großen Sport sind in der
Regel die sogenannten Westernpferderassen vorn zu finden, also American Quarter Horse, Paint und Appaloosa, was nicht
verwundert, da entsprechende Zuchtauslese betrieben wurde. Hier haben sich ganz
spezielle Reining-Blutlinien herauskristallisiert. Herausragende Reining-Vererber
sind z.B. Hollywood Dun It, Hollywood
Jac, Sugar Bars, Colonel Freckles oder Mr
Gun Smoke, um nur einige zu nennen.
Die Ausrüstung
Ähnlich wie im konventionellen Turniersport ist auch die Reining einer Kleiderordnung unterworfen. Vorgeschrieben sind
ein langärmliges Hemd mit Kragen, Jeans,
Stiefel und ein Westernhut. Hinzu kommen
eventuell Chaps und Sporen. Grundsätzlich
sollten Reiter und Pferd ein gepflegtes Bild
abgeben, bei dem Kleidung und Satteldecke idealerweise farblich auf das Pferd
abgestimmt sind. Das Pferd trägt einen
Reiningsattel, der ähnlich wie der Dressursattel den Reiter beim richtigen Sitz unterstützt. 3-und 4-jährige Pferde können in
den entsprechenden Prüfungen beidhändig
auf Trense (Snaffle Bit) oder gebisslos mit
Hackamore (Bosal) vorgestellt werden, ältere Pferde müssen einhändig auf Kandare
(Bit) geritten werden. Ein weiterer wichtiger Bestandteil der Ausrüstung ist der Beschlag, denn nur spezielle „Sliding Plates“,
also ganz besondere Eisen an den Hinterhufen, ermöglich überhaupt das meterlange Gleiten auf der Hinterhand.

The origins of reining go back to the days
of the American cowboy. For his job with
the cattle, which was often dangerous, a
cowboy needed a horse he could completely depend on. A horse, that fast, agile and
could stop and turn on the slightest cue.
The horse had to be ridden with one hand
only, as the other had to be free for work.

Reining –Fascination
of Speed and Finesse
The reining horse
Reining demands a lot of a horse – both
physically and mentally. Any horse can
be used for this discipline as long as their
conformation and mind correspond to the
demands. Reining horses are fast, powerful
and well muscled, especially the hindquarters. Also, they have to be both sensitive
and cool as well as very cooperative. In
high level reining competition, almost all of
the reining horses are western horse breeds
with a special focus on the American Quarter Horse. Today there are various bloodlines specialized on reining like Topsail
Whiz, Hollywood Dun It, Hollywood Jac,
Sugar Bars, Colonel Freckles or Mr Gun
Smoke, only to name a few.
Equipment
The reininghorse carries a western saddle especially designed for this discipline.
3-year-old horses are ridden with both
hands on a snaffle or bosal, older horses
must shown with one hand only in the bit.
In order to perform those long stops, horses
wear so called sliding-plates on their hind
hooves. In competition, the rider wears
jeans and maybe chaps, spurs, a long sleeved shirt and western hat.
Today reining is one of the fastest growing
riding disciplines. The main organization
of reining is the National Reining Horse
Association in the United States with affiliates all over the world.
The Maneuvres
There are eleven different patterns in the
NRHA rule book, each pattern consisting
of seven to eight maneuvres. These include
the sliding stop, the spin (360 degree turnaround), small, slow and big, fast circles,
backup and rollbacks (180 degree turns
after the stop) . The competitor enters the
arena with a 70 score. The maneuvres are
judged in ½ point steps from –1 ½ to + 1 ½.
0 means an average performance without
much risk. Penalties are given for mistakes,
whereas plus is given for speed, but only
if combined with smoothness and finesse.
All individual results of the maneuvres are
added for the total score. A good reining
horse should react to the lightest clue from
his rider without showing any resistance. It
should show total control all the time and
generally pleasing to watch.
