Our Story, Our History
Chicago Gateway Green is rooted in the spirit of civic pride and leadership first established in
1986 by our visionary founder, the late Donald J. DePorter. Chicago Gateway Green was
founded on the belief that beauty and sustainability go hand-in-hand, and continues to lead
the charge in greening and beautifying the great city of Chicago together with our partners.
Chicago Gateway Green developed the Expressway Partnership program in 1999, joining the
City of Chicago, the State of Illinois and Chicago’s corporate community to transform the
city’s expressways into beautifully-landscaped parkways. Distinct from traditional ‘adopt-ahighway’ programs, Chicago Gateway Green develops and maintains sweeping landscapes
which feature our sponsors, creating green ribbons of sustainable landscapes weaving
throughout the city.
As Chicago Gateway Green evolves, the fundamentals are the same. Our corporate founders
led by example and proved that business leaders do care about the communities they live
and work in. Then and now we rely on that commitment and spirit of service to support the
work of creating a beautiful and green Chicago that can be sustained well into the future.

Celebrating our 30th year of Chicago Gateway Green and the 25th Annual Green Tie Ball in
2016, Chicago Gateway Green’s signature gala raises funds for CGG’s Expressway Partnership
Program. The program creates and maintains beautiful, sustainable landscapes along Chicago’s
major expressways thereby reducing air and noise pollution and adorning the gateways into the
city’s communities.
Green Tie Ball made its first appearance in 1992. What began as a 500-person party held in the
street is now one of the most well-known and exclusive charity fundraising events in Chicago.
Each year a new and engaging theme attracts Chicago’s most prominent public, political and
media figures, environmental supporters as well as young professionals and local celebrities,
which are all key target markets for sponsors.
This year’s event, Starry Night, held at Architectural
Artifacts, a unique indoor-outdoor venue is sure to
provide a one-of-a-kind evening for our 1,000
supporters.
Our guests will be treated to charitable gaming, live
entertainment, an exclusive VIP Experience and of
course, Chicago’s top restaurants serving
delectable morsels.

They’re Back!
Inaugural Green Tie Ball co-chairs Lara Shiffman and Neal Zucker are back to chair Green
Tie Ball XXV and they are “getting the band back together.” Lara and Neal reached out to
the original committee and Sandy & Lee Golub hosted a reunion committee meeting at
Gold Star Sardine Bar and the response was overwhelming.
More than 80 Chicago business and socialite leaders are back on the committee to
celebrate year 25!
