FIELD REPAIR OR FACTORY REPAIR
RELIABLE OPERATION
CRANE ChemPharma, Xomox® valves have proven long-term,
trouble-free service. Properly installed, adjusted, and operated,
these valves require minimal maintenance.
QUESTIONS?
If there are any questions, contact your CRANE ChemPharma,
Xomox representative, Xomox Service Center, or the factory.
Automation and Service Center addresses and phone numbers
are listed on the back cover.
You may also contact the factory directly at 513-745-6000.
READ CARFELULLY
The following procedures have been prepared to assist you in
the maintenance and repair of your Xomox valves. Please read
these instructions carefully.
!
WARNING
READ INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE SERVICING VALVE. Failure to
follow instructions could result in death or serious injury.
If there is any question, contact the factory at 513-745-6000.
!
WARNING
This valve should not be used in service conditions where
materials of construction are not suitable. Failure to heed this
warning could result in death, serious injury, or property damage.
!
CAUTION
!
PARTS DAMAGE. Customer assumes all responsibility for
valve performance on valves rebuilt in the field by nonCRANE ChemPharma, Xomox personnel. Warranty of repair
parts is limited to replacement of parts due to defects in
material and workmanship of the parts themselves.
Proper installation of repair parts plays an important role in
their performance. These parts may be damaged if improper
installation occurs.
Field repair of valves may be performed by carefully
following the instructions in this book. However, this should
be weighed against the advantages of returning valves to a
CRANE ChemPharma, Xomox Service Center for repair.
Because of the specialized equipment available at Service
Centers, repairs can often be performed more economically,
even considering transportation costs.
Further, factory and Service Center repaired valves are tested
to the same specifications as new valves and carry the
standard new valve warranty.
!
WARNING
MEDIA EXPOSURE. Depressurize, clean, and neutralize
any media that may remain in the valve and pipeline.
If the valve is in the pipeline, you must follow your line
entry procedures. Always wear appropriate safety attire.
Failure to follow this warning could result in death,
personal injury, or property damage.
WARNING
MASSIVE LEAKAGE. DO NOT attempt to repair valve or its
accessories while pressurized. Death or serious injury could
result.
!
NOTICE
These instructions have been prepared for valves as they
are currently manufactured. If you have an older design valve
that needs repair, contact either the factory or your nearest
Service Center to ensure you have the correct repair parts and
instructions.

Xomox (Tufline) 3D Sleeved Plug Valves have
proven long-term trouble-free service in a
wide variety of applications. Applied within the
appropriate pressure and temperature limits,
properly installed, adjusted, and operated, these
valves require minimal attention and lower long
term cost-of-ownership.
Installation
1. Before installing the valve, carefully read and
thoroughly understand all tags that may be
attached to the valve.
2. Follow any special tagging instructions and all
appropriate flange bolting procedures.
3. Carefully inspect the raised face of flange to be
sure it is not damaged.
4. Carefully inspect valve to assure no damage
has occurred during shipping, handling, and
storage. Check raised face seal surfaces. Inspect
cover assembly for any visible damage including
proper fit to valve body.

Maintenance
All Xomox (Tufline) 3D Sleeved Plug Valves are
factory-tested for tight shutoff. If in-line leakage
or leakage along the stem occurs, follow the
adjustment instructions.
Valve Repair
It is important that leakage be attended to
promptly. If leakage is allowed to persist, the valve
body could be damaged by corrosive media.
Service Center Repair
For best results, Xomox (Tufline) 3D Sleeved Plug
Valves should be returned to a our Automation &
Service Center for repair. Because of specialized
equipment available at Service Centers, repairs
can be performed more safely and economically.
New Valve Warranty
5. Using a calibrated torque wrench, check the
cover bolt torques to be sure the match those
listed in Table 1.
Valves repaired at our Service Centers are tested
to the same specifications as new valves and carry
the standard new valve warranty.

Shipping Precautions
External Seal (Stem packing) adjustment
When shipping valves to a service center, I.C.C.
regulations require that all valves be thoroughly
decontaminated and depressurized prior to
shipment.
1. To adjust for tight seal along the valve stem,
uniformly tighten clockwise the three packing
adjustment cap screws (shown in the photo)
approximately ¼ turn each.
The customer must provide certification that these
regulations have been adhered to, and that valves
shipped to our Service Centers are completely free
of hazardous liquids or gases. Shipments to our
Service Centers must be prepaid. Return shipments
will be f.o.b. CRANE ChemPharma, Xomox Service
Center.
2. Repeat the procedure until the valve seals properly.
Adjustment Instructions
Xomox (Tufline) 3D Sleeved Plug Valves are factory
adjusted. Normally, further adjustment is not
required. However, if tight seal is not established
at the plug stem or downstream, the following
adjustments can be made.
Xomox (Tufline) 3D Valves allow individual
adjustment of the in-line seal and the stem seal.
Consult the photo on the following page for
identification of the appropriate adjustment bolts
for each sealing component. Failure to adjust the
appropriate bolts may result in excessive operating
torque.
In-line seal adjustment
1. Tighten the Plug Adjustment screws (shown in
photo) by uniformly turning clockwise ¼ turn.
2. Operate the valve (opened to closed position)
several times.
3. Check for a tight seal.
Valve Torque
Valves should be operated under service conditions
for at least twelve hours before any torque
adjustments are made. This is because initial breakaway torque normally decreases with usage at
operating temperatures.
After the initial break-in period, the following
adjustments can be made if the valve torque is high
when compared to the torque values in Table 3.
