UNSTOPPABLE.
“I wear Breg’s PTO® knee brace
when I train and when I climb. I
could not have reached the peak
of Mount Everest without it.”
Jeff on Mount Everest,
May 2011
UNSTOPPABLE.
Jeff Gottfurcht is the first person with rheumatoid
arthritis (RA) to summit Mount Everest.
Diagnosed with the joint-ravaging disease in 2001, Jeff was told he’d be confined to a
wheelchair within a few years. An avid climber, Jeff was determined RA wouldn’t stop him.
“RA has been hardest on my knees,” Jeff says. “I tried other brace brands, but none of
them helped control the pain, or were as comfortable as Breg’s PTO knee brace. It is
the only brace I trusted to wear on the Everest climb.”
Ten years after his diagnosis, Jeff conquered Mount Everest. For any of us, climbing the world’s
highest mountain would be the final exclamation point of a lifetime. For Jeff, it’s just the beginning:
he plans to climb the world’s highest peaks on all seven continents.

JEFF GOTTFURCHT
Every Breg Customer Has a Story
Welcome to Breg’s 2012 catalog of products and services. Although we’ve expanded the
number of items in our catalog since last year, we believe we offer more to our customers and
patients than just a large selection of high quality braces and cold therapy.
People use Breg products to move through life; to go from one activity to another; to do what
they love with comfort and confidence. Our products are part of the stories that make up
people’s lives.
We’ve been capturing many of these customer and patient experiences, like the one
opposite this page.
Jeff Gottfurcht was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in his late 20s. After trying other
braces to control knee pain, he now wears Breg braces exclusively. To raise awareness of this
condition, particularly in children, Jeff has been climbing the world’s highest mountains to
prove that people with RA can fulfill their dreams, however lofty. In 2009, he established the
Jeffrey Gottfurcht Children’s Arthritis Foundation (www.jgcaf.org) to help children with arthritis
live their own dreams.
In May of 2011, Jeff took on his biggest mountaineering challenge: Mount Everest. Facing
particularly harsh conditions, winds at 50 miles per hour, the death of a teammate during the
climb, and temporary blindness in one eye, he became the first person with RA to successfully
summit Mount Everest. “I couldn’t have done it without my Breg brace,” he says. We are in
awe of Jeff, and humbled by the small role our braces played in his huge accomplishment.
We are so pleased to share his inspirational story.
Look for other Breg Stories throughout this catalog. They exemplify our brand promise to
take care of you and your patients from every angle. That’s Breg 360° Customer Care.

Jim Hanlon & Frank Krakowski
Breg Sales Representatives

A patient was recovering from surgery and her cold
therapy unit wasn’t working.
“Although it wasn’t a Breg unit, we offered to help,” said Jim Hanlon, owner of Breg
distributor Post Op Partners. “We called the patient, drove immediately to her home,
and replaced the competitor’s defective product with a Breg Polar Care® Kodiak® unit.”
“When the competitor was called, they insisted the patient return the product to the
hospital herself,” added Frank Krakowski of Post Op Partners. “They even refused to ship a
replacement unit to her. It was a long drive and she’d just had surgery! Maybe they were just
having a bad week, but the difference between their response and Breg’s eagerness to help couldn’t
have been more dramatic.”

“It is rare to find such great customer service.”
Paul Fombelle, PhD
“Everyone preaches customer service, but few companies actually follow through,”
says Paul. “I have a Breg knee brace, and recently it needed service. As a weekend
warrior, I was nervous. If it didn’t get back in time, I would not be able to play
confidently. Breg’s customer service was amazing. They assured me the brace would
arrive as requested. Skeptical, I kept asking for confirmation. Breg updated me through
the whole process with short emails. They even went as far as to overnight it to me to
ensure they kept their promise. As a marketing professor who teaches Service Marketing,
it takes an awful lot to impress me. I’m impressed.”

Fusion® Technology
Fusion’s sleek frame is made of lightweight, high-strength aluminum, making it extremely low-profile. Fusion
features Breg’s proprietary ProForm™ technology, which utilizes Zytel®, a strong yet flexible polymer that allows
Fusion to conform to the shape of the leg, resulting in a precise, contoured fit. This allows the brace to engage
sooner, to help resist knee displacement. The ProForm technology also enables the brace to accommodate
the changing axis of the knee, keeping Fusion solidly in place to defend the knee. Fusion also features Breg’s
standard polycentric hinge design, internally-mounted cushioned straps, and pivoting strap tabs.
ProForm technology
with Zytel allows the
brace to contour to
the leg, resisting knee
displacement.

Introducing Improved Comfort & Fit with AirTech™ Innovation
Our newest Fusion innovation, AirTech was specifically designed to improve comfort
and fit. AirTech is a complete system of air mesh vents and grooved channel frame
pads that increase airflow throughout the brace. The system allows cool air in
and moves warm air and moisture away from the skin, improving patient comfort.
The new pad technology also improves suspension, reduces pinching and helps
alleviate pressure points.

Fusion OA Knee Brace
With its sleek, lightweight design, Fusion OA provides optimal medial or
lateral offloading for unicompartmental osteoarthritis. The Fusion design
provides medial/lateral support as well. The brace features Breg’s exclusive thumbwheel hinge technology, which provides an effective valgus and varus load to the knee. This hinge utilizes a telescoping condyle with our exclusive, user-friendly thumbwheel dial design that allows patients to easily adjust the level of pain relief without using a tool.
The Fusion OA hinge also incorporates an offset gauge that clearly displays
the amount of load applied in half-millimeter increments. Additionally, since
Fusion OA features Breg’s ProForm technology, it contours to the leg
providing unhindered mobility, enhanced comfort, and ligament protection
making it ideal for a variety of uses. As an OA brace, the Fusion sets the
standard when it comes to suspension — it just stays where you put it!
Adjustments at Your Fingertips
Exclusively on Fusion OA (osteoarthritis) braces is an innovative thumbwheel dial that
allows precision offloading adjustments with the touch of a finger (or thumb). This
makes Fusion OA braces easy to use, with “no hassle” adjustments. Competitive
braces often require tools, like a screwdriver, to change hinge settings.

X2K® CounterForce Plus Knee Brace (Custom)
The X2K CounterForce Plus provides exceptional control of varus/valgus forces
associated with unicompartmental osteoarthritis of the knee. Each custom brace
is designed with a supplemental varus or valgus force, and since the unique hinge
system on this brace is fully adjustable, the patient or clinician has the option of
adding load/force, up to 12 mm, to further alleviate the symptoms of OA. The X2K
Counterforce Plus features an extended frame pad which provides additional
comfort to the anterior tibia region, along with a gel condyle pad to help disperse
the load at the knee; this allows for longer wear time and increased comfort.
X2K CounterForce Plus Knee Brace (Custom)
The ideal brace for creating varus or valgus loads across the joint to relieve pain
from unicompartmental OA. Also reduces shear forces following procedures such
as meniscal repairs, chondral defect procedures, and cartilage injections.
Common Examples of Use:
• Unicompartmental OA
• Chondral defect procedures
• Meniscal procedures

Airmesh®
Airmesh is a revolutionary 3-D, latex-free fabric that
is half the weight of its Neoprene counterpart. It
provides exceptional comfort by wicking moisture
away from the body, while also allowing for
enhanced breathability. Airmesh is recommended
for patients who are required to wear a brace for
extended periods of time.
Neoprene
Breg’s soft goods are made from the highest quality
Neoprene, allowing them to hold their shape
longer than most competitors’ products. Elastic
piping along the top and bottom of our knee
supports increases durability and improves fit.
RoadRunner Knee Brace
The RoadRunner provides superior control and support for post-op treatment
and mild OA. Measures 16” in length.
Common Examples of Use:
• Most ACL, PCL, MCL, LCL injuries
and instabilities

BRACING
INNOVATION
through
COLLABORATION
“A lot of companies talk about the
importance of customer input:
Breg actually backs it up.”
– Troy Erickson, DO
Duluth, Minnesota
Working together to fix a pressing problem.
When Breg Product Manager Tony Butler set out to build the optimal shoulder brace,
he and Breg Engineer James Fout hit the road with a prototype. They gathered direct
feedback from surgeons, like Dr. Erickson, and their patients. The end result: the
SlingShot™ 3 shoulder brace.
“SlingShot 3 is a huge change,” Dr. Erickson says. “Patients who have worn other braces
can’t believe how good it feels. Because it’s comfortable, they wear it, so our outcomes
are better.”
“The brace addresses problems plaguing surgeons and patients for years,” says Tony, “mainly strap
pressure on the neck. From direct customer input, we’ve created an off-loading shoulder
brace unlike anything else.”
Involving customers in product creation is just another way we demonstrate

Breg Shipping
We always go the
EXTRA MILE
for you and YOUR
PATIENTS.
Or in this case, the extra 37 miles.
On a recent Friday afternoon, a college football team requested 20 Breg knee braces
for overnight delivery. Although the pickup time had passed, the Breg shipping
department leapt into overdrive. They tracked down a large van, drove 37 miles,
and convinced the shipper to get the braces onto the last shipment of the weekend.
The football team received their braces just in time for their game. For Breg, it was the
equivalent of a “Hail Mary” touchdown –– and a good example of the Breg dedication
to taking complete care of our customers.

SOLUTIONS
“With OrthoSelect®, DME ancillary revenue has grown
45% per year. Our patients are happier, complaints
are down and outcomes are better.”
– Ron Esteban
Director of Ancillary Services,
Orlando Orthopaedic Center
These days, there’s
NOTHING ANCILLARY
about ADDITIONAL REVENUE.
Breg’s OrthoSelect in-house bracing and supplies
program enhances patient care and generates
practice revenue.
After carefully reviewing several proposals, Ron selected Breg’s OrthoSelect in-office
bracing and supplies program. “Breg’s team provided the most realistic projections,
and they’re exceptionally responsive. Whether it’s a Medicare or Worker’s Comp
regulatory change or new Florida law, I hear about it first from Breg, often weeks in
advance.” The bottom line? “The OrthoSelect program is making a significant contribution
to our practice, and inventory management is much more efficient. When I go home at night, I can
focus on my family — not on my work.”
How much additional revenue could your practice generate? Try the Quick Calculator

Shane Dorian, world class surfer, is legendary for surfing the largest waves on the
planet. Recently, a surfing accident left Shane with a third degree ankle sprain.
Other pro surfers suggested Shane talk to Breg Sales Rep KJ Butterfield. "KJ was
great,” Shane says. “He worked with my doctor to make sure I had everything I needed
to recover. I think KJ’s a legend in his own right.”
Shane used Breg’s Vectra™ Walker Boot to protect his ankle, and Polar Care® Kodiak® Cold Therapy
to reduce pain and swelling. Post injury, he wears Breg’s lace-up ankle brace for stability.
We’re happy to say that Shane is back in the water, in search of the perfect swell.
