Tradición milenaria
Enclavadas en el centro del Mar
Mediterráneo, las Islas Baleares son un

de la viña desde la época romana han

técnicas de vinificación, ha sido
recompensado, especialmente en las últimas
décadas, con el reconocimiento internacional

una de ellas con un sello de identidad propia

Millennial tradition
Nestled in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea,
the Balearic Islands are an example of a
deeply rooted winemaking culture.
Generations of families who have cultivated
grapevines since the Roman days have
worked the land, despite the vicissitudes that
they have had to face.
The care and attention that their people use
to combine a millennial tradition like
winemaking with state-of-the-art wine
techniques has been offset, especially in
recent decades, with the international
recognition that many of the wines produced
on the islands have earned.
Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera
each have their own unique hallmarks, yet
they also share a common denominator: the
Mediterranean Sea, which confers
unmistakable characteristics on their wines.

Die Balearischen Inseln befinden sich im
Mittelmeer und sind ein Beispiel für fest
verwurzelte Weinbautradition. Seit der
Römerzeit haben Generationen von
Winzerfamilien den Boden bestellt - den
Widrigkeiten zum Trotz, denen sie sich
stellen mussten.
Die Hingabe und Sorgfalt, mit der man sich
hier dem Zusammenspiel einer Jahrtausende
alten Winzertradition mit den modernsten
Techniken der Weinherstellung widmet, hat
sich, besonders in den letzten Jahrzehnten,
ausgezahlt: Viele der hierzulande
hergestellten Weine haben internationale
Anerkennung erhalten.
Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza und Formentera,
jede Insel trägt ihr ganz eigenes
Identitätssiegel, aber alle besitzen einen
gemeinsamen Nenner: das Mittelmeer, das
seinen Weinen unvergleichliche
Eigenschaften verleiht.

Variedades
Entre los elementos primordiales para conseguir
un buen vino destaca la variedad o variedades
de uva elegidas para su elaboración. A las
variedades de viña autóctonas, como
Mantonegro, Callet y Fogoneu para las tintas, y
Moll o Prensal Blanca para las blancas; se han
ido incorporando en los últimos años otras de
origen foráneo, principalmente francés, al
mismo tiempo que se han recuperado
variedades tradicionales gravemente
amenazadas, como la apreciadísima Malvasía.
Todas ellas, maridadas con ingenio y profesionalidad, dan como resultado los vinos únicos y con
identidad propia que abanderan las Islas Baleares. Muchos de estos caldos han sido galardonados con premios nacionales e internacionales.

Rebsorten
One of the most important elements needed
to achieve a fine wine is the variety or
varieties of grapes chosen to craft it. In recent
years, the local varieties, including Manto
Negro, Callet and Fogoneu for red wines and
Moll and Prensal Blanca for white, have
gradually been joined by other varieties from
elsewhere, mainly France, while the
traditional varieties that had been seriously
threatened, like the highly prized Malvasía,
have been revived.
Zu den wesentlichen Bestandteilen eines
guten Weines zählen vor allem die zu seiner
Herstellung ausgewählten Traubensorte(n). Zu
den heimischen Rebsorten, wie Manto Negro,
Callet und Fogoneu für Rotweine, und Moll
oder Prensal Blanca für Weißweine, kamen in
den letzten Jahren weitere Sorten fremden, vor
allem französischen Ursprungs hinzu und
gleichzeitig wurden traditionelle, stark
bedrohte Rebsorten, wie die hochgeschätzte
Malvasía, wieder angebaut.
With ingenuity and professionalism, they
have all resulted in the unique, signature
wines of the Balearic Islands, many of which
have won prizes both nationally and abroad.
All diese mit Genie und Professionalität vereinigten

Con una superficie de cultivo aproximada de
1.350 hectáreas, las Islas Baleares cuentan
con una gran diversidad paisajística en las
que concurren diferentes áreas geográficas
dedicadas al cultivo de la vid y la producción
de vino. Esta diversidad, junto a un clima
favorable, permiten la producción de
diferentes estilos de vino amparados bajo sus
correspondientes indicaciones geográficas:
Vino de la Tierra Mallorca, Vino de la Tierra
Serra de Tramuntana-Costa Nord, Vino de la
Tierra Isla de Menorca, Vino de la Tierra Ibiza
y Vino de la Tierra de Formentera.
Las Islas Baleares, además, cuentan en su haber
con dos denominaciones de origen, D. O.
Binissalem y D. O. Pla i Llevant, vinculadas
tradicionalmente a la cultura del vino.

With a cultivated area measuring around
1,350 hectares, the Balearic Islands boast a
wide range of landscapes in which different
geographical areas devoted to wine
cultivation and production converge. This
diversity, along with a favourable climate,
make it possible to produce different styles
of wine under their respective geographical
indications: Vino de la Tierra Mallorca (wine
from Mallorca), Vino de la Tierra Serra de
Tramuntana-Costa Nord (wine from the
Tramuntana Mountain range – Costa Nord),
Vino de la Tierra Isla de Menorca (wine from
the island of Menorca), Vino de la Tierra
Ibiza (wine from Ibiza) and Vino de la Tierra
de Formentera (wine from Formentera).
The Balearic Islands also have two
appellations of origin of their own, D. O.
Binissalem and D. O. Pla i Llevant, which
have traditionally been linked to wine culture.

From the inland area to the coast, the Balearic
Islands have an extensive architectural and
ethnographic heritage linked for ages to the
winemaking culture.
Charming, traditional family wineries: this is
what our wineries are like, small yet steadfast

these wineries offer guided tours in different
languages, in addition to the possibility of
tasting the wine they produce.

Los cellers o antiguas bodegas son los lugares
más representativos de la gastronomía
mallorquina. Reconvertidos en auténticos
iconos de la cocina tradicional, en ellos se
pueden degustar los platos de ayer, de hoy y

Otra original iniciativa que rinde homenaje a
la cultura del vino es la exposición itinerante
de BOTART, que recorre bianualmente varios
países de Europa, Asia y América. Una
colección de barricas de vino en las que
artistas mallorquines e internacionales
residentes en Mallorca intervienen dejando
su impronta e inspiración.

Another original initiative that pays tribute to
wine culture is the travelling exhibition
BOTART, which travels around several
European, Asian and American countries twice
a year. It is a collection of wine casks in which
artists from Mallorca and artists from
elsewhere living on Mallorca have intervened,
leaving their imprint and inspiration.

Licores
Liqueurs
Desde antiguo los isleños conocieron bien las
propiedades medicinales de muchas plantas
silvestres como el hinojo, la hierbabuena, el
romero, al anís o el enebro.
El licor de hierbas empezó a prepararse de
forma casera hace unos doscientos años,
cuando creció la producción de vino en las
islas y abundaban los alambiques de cobre para
elaborar destilados. Muchas familias
mantienen aún esta costumbre.
Hoy estos licores o bebidas espiritosas
disfrutan de una indicación geográfica que las
protegen: Hierbas de Mallorca, Palo de
Mallorca, Hierbas Ibicencas y Gin de Menorca.
Todas ellas forman parte de nuestras
costumbres y tradiciones más arraigadas.

Since ancient times, the islanders have been
keenly aware of the medicinal properties of
many wild plants, including fennel, mint,
rosemary, anise and juniper.
Herb liqueurs began to be made at home around
200 years ago, when the wine production on
the island grew and there were plenty of copper
stills for making distilled liqueurs. Many
families still keep this custom alive. Today
these liqueurs or spirits have a geographic
indication that protects them, including
Hierbas de Mallorca (herbal liqueur from
Mallorca), Palo de Mallorca, Hierbas Ibicencas
(herbal liqueur from Ibiza) and Gin de Menorca
(Menorcan Gin). They are all part of our most
deeply rooted customs and traditions.

Schon seit alten Zeiten kennen sich die
Inselbewohner gut mit den medizinischen
Eigenschaften vieler Wildpflanzen aus, wie
dem Fenchel, der Minze, dem Rosmarin, dem
Anis oder dem Wacholder.

Spirituosen eine geografische Angabe, die sie
