DIGITAL SATELLITE TV ON THE MOVE
Receiving TV through a satellite is now becoming more popular than ever within the touring market.
This is due to the fact that a good signal is always available wherever your location, as long as you have a
clear line of sight to the satellite position.
Also with satellite, you get the benefit of having all of your existing Sky channels (available if you
subscribe to Sky). Alternatively if you have a Free-To-Air receiver box (no contract required), you can
benefit from a wider choice of TV & radio channels, compared to a digital terrestrial receiver.
Most importantly, if you travel abroad into Europe you can watch your favourite UK channels
(Over 200 channels) with a suitably sized satellite dish.

Fixed system
Firstly, decide if you are going to be travelling
abroad or staying in the UK. Different sized
satellite dishes determine how far you can go to
pick up UK channels (See page 8 for a guide).

DIGITAL TERRESTRIAL TV ON THE MOVE
Receiving TV through a terrestrial aerial is the traditional method of receiving TV on the move. With the
Digital Switchover looming, you will need to purchase either a Freeview box or a digital terrestrial receiver
with a suitable aerial to get digital TV. Receiving all available channels and a good quality watchable picture
through an aerial can depend upon your location.

GLOSSARY OF TERMS
Throughout this catalogue there may be a few terms in the descriptions that are new to
you, so we have provided a reference to some of those words to help explain what they mean.
Azimuth
Angle between true north and a particular
satellite. Can be measured with a compass.
Footprints
This represents the broadcasting coverage
area of a particular satellite.
Elevation
Angle between the earth's surface and a
particular satellite at a given reception point
(0° for horizontal and 90° for vertical).
Digital TV
More efficient means of transmitting television
services, which offers more channels and interactive
services, as well as improved picture and sound
quality.
LNB (Low Noise Block)
Is the device which receives and collects the
satellite signal reflected from the dish.
Digital Free To View
Is used to describe any products that can receive free
non-encrypted television and radio channels from a
transmitter.

Fully automatic self seeking satellite system
The dome control electronics have been combined with the free to air satellite receiver box to minimise
electronics and maximise performance and reliability of the system. This means all you have to do it is
park up, switch on and enjoy.
The receiver is pre-set to the correct satellite for UK channels (other satellites an be easily selected).
The most popular UK TV channels are pre set at the top of the channel listing. The receiver comes
complete with a remote eye allowing the unit to be conveniently hidden out of site, whilst still being
operated by the remote control.
The Dome design ensures that you can use the system with its built-in free to air receiver, or combine it
with either a freesat HD 12/230 volt receiver with digital HD programs and digital radio, or a Sky TV
subscription service.

DISH ALIGNMENT IN SOUTHERN EUROPE
Programmes on the ASTRA 2 cluster of satellites are beamed down to create three footprints,
NORTH, SOUTH and UK. All FREE TO AIR and SKY programmes are received in these footprints.
Whilst travelling in the UK, you should be within all three of the footprints and with the right
equipment, you should not have any problems with receiving all of the ASTRA transponders.
Outside of the UK, problems of reception and aligning the dish can start to occur. The default
frequency of the SKY ‘Digibox’ is set to a transponder on the north beam. As you travel south
and move out of the north footprint, you may need to change the default transponder of the
‘Digibox’ to match the south beam.
To change the default transponder setting, you will first need to access the hidden ‘INSTALLER SETUP’
menu. Then press the ‘SERVICES’ button on you SKY remote and then ‘4’ to access ‘SYSTEM SETUP’.
Although it is not displayed, you will need to press ‘0’ then ‘1’ then ‘SELECT’ to access the ‘INSTALLER
SETUP’ menu, then ‘2’ to enter ‘DEFAULT TRANSPONDER’.
The display will then show, from top to bottom:Frequency (GHz), Polarisation, Symbol Rate (Nbaud), FEC and Save new settings.
*Select ‘ FREQUENCY (GHz) and by typing in the relevant numbers, change the settings from
‘11.778’ to ‘11.597’. Using the arrow keys, change the settings to 11.597, 22, 5/6.
When the changes have been made you will then need to ‘SAVE NEW SETTINGS’.
Press ‘BACK UP’ to return to main screen.

Can I use a digital Freeview receiver with my satellite system?
Unfortunately not, a terrestrial (Freeview) digital receiver will only work
through a terrestrial digital aerial. For satellite you must use a satellite receiver.

Can I take my existing digital satellite receiver box from home?
If you do not wish to purchase an additional receiver for your travels
and have a satellite receiver at home this will work fine. If you have a subscription
card you will also get all your channels that you have paid for.

What is a Free-To-Air satellite receiver, and what channels are available?
See page 21 for further details.

Why am I receiving foreign channels, all I want is UK (English) channels?
This is because you’re receiving a signal from the wrong satellite. There are many satellites in the
sky, however ASTRA 2 is the main satellite at present that transmits UK channels.
If you have a Maxview Free-To-Air satellite receiver, check you have selected ASTRA 2, also
identified as the satellite network ID number 0002 (see question 7 for more details).

Will my satellite system work when pointing through trees or buildings?
Satellite, unlike TV signals, will not work through objects. The dishes LNB must have clean line of
sight to the satellite (in the sky).

Why do I have full signal strength and full signal quality on my Sky box but no picture?
You are currently on the wrong satellite. The satellite network ID number you should be set at is
0002. To look at this go to SERVICES, SYSTEM SETUP & SIGNAL TEST, the ID will change
automatically, depending on which satellite you’re pointing at.

Why is my Sat Finder giving a high pitch tone, but I have no picture?
You could be on the wrong satellite, or sensitivity is set too high.
It also takes time from when the Sat Finder detects a signal to when it is decoded by the receiver
box. You need to give your receiver box approximately 5 seconds to decode the signal.
How long will it take or how difficult is it to locate my required satellite?
If it’s your first time it may take you several minutes or you may be lucky and do it in seconds.
As with everything, the more you do something, the quicker and easier it gets. Patience is the key
with digital satellite signals, as you have to be very accurate aligning the dish and LNB to your
required satellite in the sky.
