marlene dietrich in dr. no’s ludovico clinic - dr. baby’s
erzland // meese is one of the prominent protagonists of
the younger german art scene. there is nothing he does not
do, from painting to sculpture, installation, performance, set
every year, the watermill center invites four to six
design, directing, and playwriting. the prolific artist views
international artists to create a number of spectacular
art as completely independent of human influence. he has
site specific installations. in keeping with the mission
stated, “art is its own motive force, its own drive, its own
of the watermill center, the artists work together with
instinct, its own reality, its own politics and its own confusion.
robert wilson and summer program participants
for art, human sensibility is simply not relevant.” his works are

filled with references to history, literature, pop culture and
initial concepts to physical realization. this focus
on cooperation and the formation of international
networks sets the watermill residencies apart from
many residency programs: it fosters the exchange
of artistic ideas and gives participating artists
international exposure. at the same time, many of
the program participants have the unique possibility
of working closely with and learning from artists
who can already look back on a body of work and
first successes.

the art world. his archeo-family consists of every dictator in
history and fiction as well as the great geniuses that have
all changed our history. he plays with them like toys of an
angry child, de-demonizing them and leaving behind an
ever-changing fantastic arrangement of his props. meese
is creating an installation on the site and in the building of
watermill, taking over the pristine spaces designed by wilson
and creating a vibrant hybrid of two artistic minds that both
tend towards the “gesamtkunstwerk”. the exhibition will be
on view to the public through august 10th. please visit www.
watermillcenter.org for further information. the exhibition is
made possible through the generous support of meese’s
berlin gallery, contemporary fine arts.

as seductive and irreverent as they are meditative. for the
summer benefit, anand has created his most ambitious
installation yet, collaborating with indian poster artists
from delhi to create a dramatic re-dressing of watermill’s
knee façade in the spirit of his favorite bollywood poster.
baba anand has had numerous exhibitions worldwide,

essay, philippe vergne described dube’s work as having
“developed an aesthetic language that privileges sculptural

memories, history, mythologies and phenomenological
experiences.” for the summer benefit, dube has created a
tent-like installation that is as inviting as is it foreboding,
with a surprising wax element that has become a staple
of dube’s work. anita dube has been the subject of many
notable exhibitions worldwide, including the 51st venice
biennale and 7th havana biennale, and most recently, a
solo exhibition at bose pacia gallery, new york.

Gripping culture.
For more than 125 years now, FSB has
been addressing itself to that most mundane of objects the door handle, a tool
that helps the hand operate the doors
in our lives. This lengthy immersion in
artifacts and means of assistance for
the hand has led to more than just grippable products, however, since FSB has
always grasped the logic of preempting
the future whilst also probing into the
hand’s evolution as expressed in design,
technology and society. We enthusiastically promote projects that view things
in a similarly holistic vein and that seek
to find visionary answers – and, indeed,
questions. It is thus a pleasure for us
to be able to support our friend Robert
Wilson and the Byrd Hoffman Watermill
Foundation.
