nachdem wir in Deutschland gestern alle frei hatten, zeigte die IBM uns gestern, wie viel sie
in den letzten Wochen gearbeitet hat.
Es gab sehr viele Announcements, die ich hier und auf unserer Webseite www.exstor.de
gleich weitergeben möchte.
Wünsche allen viel Erfolg mit den Themen und freue mich über Feedback.
1. TSM Version 6.4 Announcement
Am 03.10. wurde von der IBM die neue TSM Server Version 6.4 angekündigt. Hier finden
Sie das offizielle Announcement. Das Paket besteht aus TSM Server 6.3.3 und TSM Client
6.4. Neue Highlights sind insbesondere neue Features für Virtual Environments, NAS
Backups und Plattform-Support (u.a. SQL 2012..). Damit rückt die Abkündigung von TSM
Version 5.5 immer näher.
2. Linear Tape Open (LTO) Version 6 angekündigt.
Das LTO Konsortium aus HP, IBM und Quantum hat am 23. August die 6. Version der Linear
Tape Open (LTO) Technik angekündigt. Das Press-Release gibt es hier und eine interessante
Zusammenfassung von einem bekannten IBM Kollegen gibt es hier. Das offizielle IBM
Announcement vom 03.10. gibt es hier. Die Verfügbarkeit von LTO-6 als TS1060 in TS3500
Libraries soll am 09.November starten.
3. Neue Technical Levels für AIX 6.1 und 7.1
Aufgrund der neuen Power7+ Prozessoren hat die IBM neue TLs für AIX 6.1 und AIX 7.1
angekündigt. Darin sind auch einige Änderungen enthalten, die den Betrieb von DB/2
beeinflussen können. Also vor einem Update bitte vorher informieren. Details zu den
Funktionen und Änderungen gibt es hier.
4. Neues AIX für den VIO: PowerVM 2.2
Auch für den Virtual IO Server gibt es ein neues Release mit vielen neuen Funktionen.

5. TSM K-Fall Konzept Tage
Im Rahmen der Noon2Noon Veranstaltungen (Nürnberg vom 22. Oktober bis 23. Oktober)
zum Thema K-Fall Konzepte wird die eXstor einen Vortrag zum TSMCluster® halten. Dabei
werden insbesondere neue Ideen und Konzepte des geplanten Releases 5.2 vorgestellt.
Andere interessante Vorträge zum Thema K-Fall Konzepte gibt es von unserem Partner
Empalis und Cristie. Eine ausführliche Beschreibung finden Sie hier. Bitte melden Sie sich
möglichst bald an. Für nur 195,- € erhalten Sie dort viele interessante, kompetente
Vorträge (Essen und Übernachtung inklusive).
6. TSM for Virtual Environments
Vom IBM Support gibt es ein ganz aussagekräftiges Papier zum Thema "TSM for VE Sizing".
Ich habe das mal auf unseren Webserver gelegt und es kann hier runtergeladen werden.
7. Ein paar kleine TSM Fehlerteufel
- Tivoli Storage Manager server documentation corrections for Version 6
- ANR0000I message on server restart after server option changes
- Documentation about changing the hostname for a Tivoli Storage Manager server is
incorrect
- DB Limit erreicht und Umstellen auf TCP/IP (dieser Fehler scheint immer wieder
aufzutauchen).

Auf dieser Seite finden Sie alle aktuellen 6.2 Readme's gebündelt. Wäre schön wenn es das
für alle Versionen gäbe.
9. Zusammenfassung von Andy Raibeck zum Thema Windows DR (sehr aktuell!!).
1. The restore method you mentioned works fairly well for Windows
2003, but
is not "best practice" for Windows Vista and higher. Rather, you
should use
WinPE and ASR as outlined here:
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/wikis/x/EwgFD
Microsoft does not support BMR/DR scenarios involving dissimilar
hardware.
In practice, you can get away with some minor hardware differences,
such as:
* Restore to a system with different memory
* Restore to a system with larger disks than original system
The above wiki article includes some of the "gotchas" that will
cause
restore issues.
2. When backing up Windows, you should follow the advice given in
this
presentation:

It is a large presentation containing a lot of history and
background, but
the "bottom line" backup recommendations are on pages 27 - 33 of the
PDF
file. On that same web page, you can link to a recording of my
presentation
of the material. It is lengthy, but contains information you might
find
insightful. In particular, for "proof of concept" testing:
* Exclude as little as possible, unless you KNOW that the files
are not
needed to restore a viable system.
* In particular, do not exclude NTUSER.DAT* and USRCLASS*.DAT
files.
* Use OFS with VSS as the snapshot provider for backup of drives
(dsm.opt file option SNAPSHOTPROVIDERFS VSS).
* Check dsmsched.log and dsmerror.log for any anomalous messages
found
during the backup (you want NO anomalous messages)
3. Make sure you have remediated the issue described in this flash

If you have HP OpenView installed, you need to check for that issue.

are affected, then at a minimum, apply the registry change described
in the
above flash to all Windows 2008 and Windows 2008 R2 systems. If you
also
provide system state backup support for Windows Vista and Windows 7
workstations, then this change should be applied on those as well.
For
longer term, install Microsoft hotfix 2647841 (
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2647841) , which corrects this
problem for
any service that might use '/' instead of '\' in the registry. If
you apply
the hotfix, then the HP OpenView registry value change is not
necessary.
4. Once you know you have a clean backup (do not accept anything
less than
return code 0, no warning messages or anything else), then try the
restore.
See if that changes anything.
