CLEAR FORK (NORTH)
CLEAR FORK (N ORTH)
The Clear Fork (North) is the stretch of the Trinity River
from State Highway 183 downstream to 7th Street near
Trinity Park. There is approximately 6.7 miles of river in
this segment. This is one of the most heavily used sections of the Trinity River. There are paved trails along
the entire segment, as well as soft granular trails that
run parallel to the paved trails throughout most of the
segment. Clear Fork North is a beautiful area and a
very popular area to run, walk, bike, rollerblade, and
fish. With it’s proximity to Trinity Park and the Cultural
District, it has also become a popular stretch for equestrian riders.

Linkages to Neighborhoods:
• Overton Park and the side street trail head on
Bellaire Drive provide good linkages for the
Overton Woods and Tanglewood neighborhood
• Linkages to the north of the river are completely
segregated due to the UP Rail Yard and the
inability to cross Hulen Street
Assessment of River:
The river is channelized throughout almost all of
this section. A small section of the old river
channel is located in Forest Park and is in its
pristine, natural condition. There are 7 low water
dams along this stretch making boating very difficult.
However, it is the most popular segment for trail
users. The river is in good condition and is safe for
fishing and contact recreation.
Dams include:
• West Park Dam near S.H. 183
• Bryant Irvin Dam at River Park
• Overton Dam near Bellaire Drive
• Colonial Dam at Colonial Country Club
• City Dam just upstream of the I-30 overpass
• and two dams located by Trinity Park

Benbrook’s proposed mixed development, north

accommodate the increase in users and linkages
need to be put in place as development occurs.

MARINE CREEK
MARINE CREEK
Marine Creek runs through a densely populated
area, but the trail system appears to be underutilized. More neighborhood linkages are crucial to
bring more people to the Marine Creek greenbelt.
There is a continuous greenbelt from the Stockyards
through Buck Sansom Park. Trails need to be constructed from Buck Sansom Park to and around
Marine Creek Lake.

that need to be raised to accommodate the
higher water level during the rainy season.

MARY’S CREEK
MARY’ S CREEK
Flooding along Mary’s Creek has been a major problem for residents and businesses located on the
creek. Fences have been washed downstream and
property lines have deteriorated over time.
Development upstream is a contributing factor. A
regional watershed management plan is recommended to help control the flooding caused by
upstream development. Residents strongly
expressed keeping the creek as natural as possible.
They do not want channelization. Other options to
avoid channelization is to encourage low water
dams, dredging to make the creek capable of carrying more water and upstream retention ponds.
KEY MAP: M ARY ’S CREEK
Trails are proposed on the south side of the creek
and crosses over the creek just west of Loop 820.
Ideally, trails will connect park land along the creek

SYCAMORE CREEK
SYCAMORE CREEK
Sycamore Creek connects Fort Worth from I-30 to
Crowley and extends further south into Johnson
County. There is a continuous greenbelt from
Vickery to Cobb Park. Current commercial and
industrial development from Cobb Park south to
Hallmark Park make a continuous greenbelt challenging. Although there are several large parks along the
river, the biggest challenge is linking a continuous
greenbelt and providing adequate neighborhood
connections to the greenbelt.
