Dear customers and friends of our company,
2013 was an exciting, busy year for us right up until
the last minute. On 23 December, I met with our
solicitor once again to complete the last formalities
for our new company, Ellerhold Glücksburg GmbH,
and sign off on the acquisition of the operations,
assets and 83 employees of the bankrupt Offset
Ketels GmbH & Co. KG.
We have used the first page of this newsletter to
extend a warm welcome to the new employees in
Wees near Glücksburg to the Ellerhold Group. We
now produce labels at four locations.

Over the past year, we have once again continued to
develop and improve. As such, at this point, I would
like to extend my gratitude to you – our customers.
We believe it is important to look ahead to the
future. A second label printing press for Witten
was long overdue: the second Rapida 106 with
eight colours is essentially the same as the first
machine. Development in Witten has remained
stable in recent years.
A new addition to the Group
“Ellerhold Glücksburg GmbH, newly established in early December 2013, took
over the operations, assets and 83 employees of the bankrupt Offset Ketels
GmbH & Co. KG on 2 January 2014,” according to a newspaper report.
With that, another printing house in the embossed wet-glue labels area now
belongs to the Ellerhold Group, significantly increasing our supply capabilities.
From our site in Wees, a suburb of Glücksburg, we supply brand owners from
the spirits, coffee and food sector within Germany and beyond.
The team in Glücksburg employ a range of high-quality finishes, including hot
film embossing, cold film embossing, bronzing, application of individual or
strip holograms, UV coating and many more. They produce labels according
to individual customer requirements. Label design and format are optimally
adapted to the bottle shapes, thereby highlighting the unique nature of the
products.
The Ellerhold Group now has four label production sites, making us more
flexible and able to deliver products faster. The sites provide security through
redundancy and make use of the resulting synergy potential. //
We have compiled some key developments in this
newsletter. But what does 2014 hold? The German
economy appears stable. The Munich Ifo Institute
predicts economic growth of 1.9 per cent and the
German Federal Bank predicts 1.7 per cent growth.
Only time will tell if that really is the case. Either way,
the printing industry remains problematic.
We want to work against this trend. We have a
broad customer base and a well-developed range of
products that we plan to extend further. Our internal
and external sales teams, our marketing team and all
of our employees with whom you communicate are
required to provide you with information on all of our
products. We work extremely hard to do so.
The World Cup is fast approaching and we have
once again included a short football quiz in this
newsletter. The World Cup will be a success for
the advertising industry and hopefully for outdoor
advertising, too. We would like to wish Löw, Lahm,
Reus and all of the players on the German national
team the best of luck for the tournament. We’re here

The Ellerhold Group invests in Witten
Second machine for labels
It had become high time to put an end to weekend shifts and
overtime and deploy some new technology in Witten. The second
Rapida 106 reel-to-sheet feeder with eight colours and coating from
KBA was delivered at the beginning of December 2013 and went
into operation at the end of January.
Redundancy is achieved by having two machines on site, providing
additional security and ensuring that we can always deliver on
schedule, which was also a reason for the investment.

Quality assurance is ...
... the sum of all measures to ensure consistent product quality.
But does that mean for us?
• Ellerhold Witten GmbH established a dynamic system for quality
control for label production in November 2012 based on recognised
quality assurance standards (ISO 9000 etc.) and other measures.
•O
ur dynamic system emphasizes individual responsibility. In
addition to implementing the ISO Standard requirements,
the company set up a laboratory in order to carry out tests
autonomously and independently.
•T
his way, it is possible to perform quick tests on paper and film
labels for almost all areas and quickly respond to production issues
where necessary.
•T
he laboratory tests printing adhesion, lye resistance, paint
adhesion and performs simulation tests on the cleaning solution
(pollution test) and the removability of labels (lye penetration).
•A
ll tests are conducted on a random basis and documented in
order to guarantee efficiency and transparency.
• A ll Ellerhold employees are responsible for quality control.

100 million prints
New warehouse in Radebeul
Exciting technology
Ellerhold AG has invested in a warehouse covering 2,000 m2. It
provides the company with more space to ensure the smooth flow
of materials. //
It was ten years ago in January when the world’s first Rapida 205
was constructed in Radebeul. It marked the beginning of a new era
in poster printing. This printing press made it possible to produce
18/1 posters in 4-sheet format more effectively. The large sheet-fed
offset printing press is also a step ahead of the rest in terms of print
quality and capabilities.
We now operate five of these machines at our sites. Our first machine
reached the 100 millionth sheet mark on 22 January 2014. //
Expansion in Wismar
Investments have also been made in Wismar. A new production hall
has been located beside the pressroom since the beginning of the
year. It is home to MegaLight assembly and offices. The hall provides
Wismar with a further 1,000 m2 for storage and production. //

Master distillers
The Master Distillers Association celebrated its fiftieth anniversary
with us on 30 May and 1 June 2013. We cleared out the label storage
hall at Goetz + Müller GmbH Etiketten aus Berlin and turned it into a
party zone. It goes without saying that spirits and high-quality labels
belong together.
Guided tours through the production rooms at the Ellerhold
subsidiary allowed visitors to take a look behind the scenes at the
Berlin facility. Visitors were offered an insight into printing, cutting,
die-cutting, embossing and filming – and some even got to see
labels being produced for their own products. //

EuroShop in Düsseldorf
We presented our cardboard and corrugated board packaging
and display solutions at EuroShop 2014. Visitors were particularly
interested in the many different finishing options for our large
205 × 151 format.

EuroShop is the world’s leading retail trade fair where the who’s who
of the industry come together. It is the engine for ideas, innovations,
solutions, contacts and business. //
New flutes
We have invested a great deal of time in the planning process and
now the time has finally come: We can now independently produce
the EE and EB flute for our customers and laminate with the printed
sheets in one operation. The grammage can be tailored individually
for both formats. A machine measuring 80 m in length and 5 m in
height makes it possible to produce cardboard packaging products
in formats up to 205 × 151 cm.

Ströer Roadshow 2014
The Ströer Group passed through Cologne, Stuttgart, Berlin,
Frankfurt and Hanover as part of its regional Afterwork Show, and
we were there, too.
Under the slogan ‘See and be seen. Getting images inside
consumers’ heads’, media marketer Ströer toured the different
regions of Germany. The outdoor and online advertising provider
used a multi-facetted programme to showcase the potential of outof-home media in terms of perception and advertisement impact.
Ströer Afterwork is about taking the time to have meaningful
discussions with customers, partners and interested parties. //

You can see the new posters everywhere. They are attractive and
generate a high level of attention. The campaign is an early highlight
for the year. //

The FAW is turning up the heat again one year after the first
Germany-wide campaign that featured three eye-catching posters.

Silkscreen printers in Radebeul
Around 190 silkscreen printers and suppliers joined us in-house for
the 24th Silk Screen Printing Meeting.
The meeting was organised by Design & Siebdruck Freudenberg
GmbH from Dresden and Ellerhold AG in Radebeul.
These annual meetings are tradition. They provide an opportunity
to exchange information and news and allow the participants to
experience the culture and sights of a new region.
Our employees put in a great team effort at the 7th Cardboard Boat
Race on the white water channel in Markkleeberg on 18 August
2013. They worked together to build a buoyant cardboard boat using
only corrugated board, adhesive tape, ink. Competing against 14
other teams, the Ellerhold team sailed to a respectable fourth-place
finish.

Participants were treated to a look at what goes on behind the
scenes at our company in the areas of offset and digitally printed
posters, displays and packaging. They also enjoyed a romantic
evening cruise on a paddle steamer along the Elbe. //
Running keeps you fit
Whether in Witten, Essen or Dresden, the running enthusiasts on
staff have spread their running fever to the rest of their colleagues.
We plan to line up together on the start line once again this year.
Running together is great for our health and it helps make a great
working environment.

Ten years in Wismar
Anniversary
Ellerhold Wismar GmbH is set to celebrate its tenth birthday this
year. When it opened in 2004, it became the third facility of the
Ellerhold Group after Zirndorf and Radebeul.
Our site in Wismar allowed us to open a new poster logistics centre
in northern Germany and take care of our customers on site at short
notice.

100 Best Posters

The poster designer association, customers and printing houses
from the three countries have once again been called upon to take
part in the competition The nominated posters will be displayed at
the Kulturforum in Potsdamer Platz in Berlin in the summer of 2014
as part of the »100 Best Posters 13« exhibition.
