»Sideshow« nannte man in den USA der 1920er Jahre
das spektakuläre Beiprogramm von Zirkus- oder Jahrmarktveranstaltungen. Zusammengestellt wurde das Programm von Eva Meyer-Keller und Rico Repotente. Sie
klammern »den Tanz« aus und räumen anderen Kunstformen Platz ein, die durch die »Brille« des Tanzes betrachtet ungewöhnliche und erfrischende Dimensionen
erhalten.

The »Sideshow« of the 1920’s in America was a supporting
act to the main attraction of a circus or carnival. The Sideshow
of the »Tanz im August« festival is a meeting place for the audience and artists. Eva Meyer-Keller and Rico Repotente have
selected »acts« from other genres of art, such as music and
the visual arts, rather than typical dance formats. In doing so,
they hope to provide a fresh and multi-dimensional perspective from which to consider dance.

fastest drummer, legend Stiff Leather performs the impossible drumming on four
snare drums at once while being showered with confetti love, OOGA!

The feedback sessions propose a practice of working in parallel between art
practitioners. It uses a technique of producing and giving feedback. The work can
be performance, dance, songs, video, text, installation, photography or whatever.
We will bring work or create new work and use this as the material to practice
making, showing, watching and responding. It is an invitation to develop your
own project or process and at the same time support the projects and processes of
other artists. You become a dramaturge or outside eye for the other projects.

Each day, every participant will work on her / his own piece, with a beginning,
middle and end. The format of the daily 3-hour session will be:
› 1 hour to make something to show
› 1 hour to show the work (max. 10 min for each project)
› 1 hour to give feedback to each other

de »WOW – Wir arbeiten hier« ist eine Initiative von Berliner Künstlerinnen, die Arbeit als einen Modus ständiger Interaktion verstehen. Zwischen einem Kunstmarkt, der Arbeit als Produkt definiert und einer Ökonomie der Gabe, die künstlerische Praxis als Teilen und Mitteilen begreift,
soll eine Arbeits-Gemeinschaft entstehen, die während der Sideshow mit
der Formation von Diskursen experimentiert. en »WOW – We work here« is
an initiative to explore the notion of work as constant interaction. Between the
idea of work as product and work as a gift, WOW experiments with nascent forms
of discourse at the Sideshow.

lädt die asketische Sprache Becketts mit praller, prekärer Realität auf. en A
drunken punk walks the line of a rectangle until he falls over exhausted. Aminde
saturates Beckett’s minimalist form with precarious reality.
de Vo-ca-bu-la-ry ist ein Film über eine Performance mit skulpturalen Elementen. Ein Manifest für die Berechtigung prä-linguistischer Sprache, die
der Realität und der Fiktion unterliegt; doch dann wird er zur unfreiwilligen Dokumentation eines ernsten Unfalls. en Vo-ca-bu-la-ry is a film of a
sculptural performance, a manifesto for the right to a pre-linguistic language underlying reality and fiction. Involuntarily it turns into a documentary of a serious
accident.

jedem Take wird sie wieder repariert, bis es immer einfacher wird, sie zu zerstören und schwieriger, sie zusammenzusetzen. en An acoustic guitar is repeatedly smashed on video. It is repaired between each take, thus becoming increasingly
easy to destroy, and more difficult to mend.

de Gemeinschaftliches Spiel und Workshop mit einem Ziel: Who IS the Party?
ist eine Bewegung für Vielfältigkeit und Gleichberechtigung. Im Kontext
der Sideshow wird ein dreieckiger Tisch die Spielorte des Festival besuchen. Die mobile Installation baut sich in den Foyers auf und schafft Raum
für Interviews, Nominierungen, kleine Performances und große Feste. Das
Spiel wurde in verschiedenen Variationen in Stockholm, Peking und Berlin
präsentiert. Parallel dazu existiert ein Online-Archive, das mit jedem Mal
organisch wächst. › www.whoistheparty.com en Who IS the Party? is a practical
act for diversity and equality: As a part of Sideshow, a triangular table will circle
the festivals venues. The mobile installation will be set up in the foyers and create
workspaces, study circles, speed dates, nominations, motivations, interviews, ceremonies, tiny performances and grand parties. The game has been presented in different
versions in Stockholm, Beijing and Berlin, and has a parallel collaborative online
archive that grows organically with each meeting.

Minimalistische Americana auf einer alten elektrischen Gitarre, eine
spröde Stimme und ein Haufen Wehmut. Wunderbar. Miss Kenichi kam als
Tochter eines Lastwagenfahrers zur Welt und wuchs in einem abgelegenen
Ort in den Wäldern auf. en Sparse, almost parched Americana performed on
an old guitar, sung with a husky voice, which easily slips under your defense.
Mrs. Sadness meets Mrs. Sparkle. Wonderful. Born a trucker-kid, Miss Kenichi
grew up in a secluded little town in the woods.
