The automotive industry has a long standing
history as one of the most important industries in Sweden.
The Scandinavian supplier industry is characterized by the power of innovation both
regarding products and production engineering – with documented quality and flexibility
for its customers!
From an international perspective Sweden
is unique with several vehicle manufacturers
who together with the suppliers create a
powerful automotive cluster with the ability
to take an idea from concept to finished
product following the Swedish model of
partnership in development.
The SåNätt lightweight project (p. 40) is
an excellent example of the capability of the
Scandinavian suppliers and the results from
the project are on display in stand E27,
Hall 13.
The pavilion with Scandinavian automotive
suppliers at IAA 2014 is organized by FKG
with support from the Swedish Agency for
Economic and Regional Growth.

SÅNÄTT was a collaborative project driven by
the common goal of strengthening the competitiveness of the Swedish automotive industry
through lightweight innovation. Academics, automotive suppliers and one vehicle manufacturer
collaborated in the research and development
of design concepts aimed to cost effectively
reduce the weight of a classic family saloon by
20-40%.
The journey of SÅNÄTT provided a valuable
insight into the way research projects can be
run within the automotive industry. Important

networks was forged over the duration of the
project resulting in spin-off projects, patented
concepts, future research areas and new business deals.
The SÅNÄTT project ran from 2010-2013 and
was led by FKG, Innovatum, Chalmers University of Technology and Volvo Car Group. The
project focused on development of complete
vehicle, seat, chassis, cockpit, roof, underbody
and door.
