production process through T.I.G. MES
About SHL
SHL was established in 1989
with the goal of combining
world-class manufacturing in
Asia with the strengths of
international
management
practices. Today, SHL is the
world’s largest privately owned

Project: Implementation of T.I.G. Manufacturing Manager at SHL Group,
Taiwan
Description
T.I.G. is the world’s number one
MES specialist (Manufacturing
Execution Systems) for injection
molding machines, specializing in
acquiring real-time operation and

systems. The project began in
summer 2012 as part of SHL’s
on-going expansion plans, with
the first installation in operation
by the end of 2012.
Graphical Touch Screen of T.I.G.
At SHL’s main manufacturing site in Taiwan, more than 100 injection-molding
machines are used to produce precision medical parts for drug delivery systems
such as autoinjectors and pen injectors. SHL desired to establish a paperless

production system with full transparency over the entire production process,
including cycle times, scrap rates, machine downtime and other opportunities for
process optimization and cost-savings. The customer was looking for a
competent partner who could put all that into operation. Based on their
reputation, SHL decided to award the contract to T.I.G, as a worldwiderecommended MES specialist in the injection molding industry.
The first step in the project was to setup a system for acquiring all the data from
the molding machines to a host computer. Graphical Touch Screen terminals in
the molding rooms were then installed to allow instant monitoring of machine
downtimes. T.I.G. installed several modules in the MEG Manufacturing Manager,
including Setup, Monitoring and Quality Assistants.
Benefits of SHL
With the modular T.I.G. Manufacturing Manager, SHL received the following
benefits in their production process:
-
Complete transparency, with real-time data
Instant reports on machine status, downtime reasons and duration of
downtime
Create expressive reports as a basis for audits, certifications, process
analyses and proof of process analyses and proof of process capability
Ability to save entire datasets on a PC for maximum data integrity
Easy management of machine and mold dataset combinations
Future Objectives
At the completion of the project, over 100
machines will be connected via the host
computer for real-time production planning
and monitoring. The MES Manufacturing
Manager software provided by T.I.G. will be
available in multiple languages, including
English and Chinese.
