José Cobo in Berlin präsentieren zu dürfen
.
3 Punts Galerie Berlin freut sich sehr, die neue Kunstsaison mit der ersten Einzelausstellung von dem spanischen Bildhauer José Cobo in Berlin beginnen zu dürfen. Zum ersten Mal wird der Künstler seine lebensgroßen Figuren aus Epoxy-Harz auf den gesamten Wänden der Galerie heraufkrabbeln lassen. Auch eine besondere
Installation wird Teil seiner Präsentation in Berlin.
José Cobo wurde 1958 in Santander, Cantabria (Spanien) geboren, wo er heute auch lebt und arbeitet und wo
mehrere seiner Auftragsarbeiten für den öffentlichen Raum zu sehen sind.
Er hat 1985 sein Studium an der School of the Art Institute of Chicago (USA) – MFA Sculpture Departament
– absolviert. In Madrid, an der Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, hat er Skulptur und Wandmalerei
weiterstudiert. Von 1992 bis 1995 lehrte er Bildhauerei als Gastprofessor an das School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Seine Arbeiten sind Teil von mehreren privaten und öffentlichen Sammlungen in Deutschland,
Italien, Mexiko, Spanien und den USA.

„Wie auch bei seinen vorherigen Werken trachtet Jose Cobo bei den jetzigen Arbeiten nicht danach, eine kritische Weltanschauung zu präsentieren. Stattdessen stellt er Fragen aus einem besonderen Blickwinkel, die
unverhofft unsere Wahrnehmung des menschlichen Daseins bereichern. Ruft man sich die bisherigen 3 Jahrzehnte seiner künstlerischen Laufbahn in Erinnerung, wird einem die Kontinuität seines Erschaffens bewusst.
Seine Arbeit hat sich auf harmonische Weise fortentwickelt. Neue Erkenntnisse und Entdeckungen, die bedeutende Lebenserfahrungen für ihn dargestellt haben, hat er integriert. [.... ] Zudem kehrt er, nach dem Erreichen des 50. Lebensjahr, auf andere Weise zu einer gewissen Besessenheit mit der frühesten Kindheit zurück.
In dem er sein Werk wendet, gelingt es ihm, eine neue Perspektive für das Verständnis der frühen Kinderjahre
auszulegen. Diese Wendung erlaubt dem Künstler, ein tiefes Gefühl der Erneuerung zu erwecken“.

“Wenn ein Kind die Wand herauf-oder herunterkrabbelt, bleibt kein Erwachsenenherz kalt – auch wenn jeder
weiß, dass solche Dinge im wirklichen Leben nicht vorkommen. Höchstens im Rausch, oder im Traum […] Solche
surrealen Effekte, erzielt mit den Mitteln der realistischen Skulptur, sind trotz ihrer langen künstlerischen
Tradition bis heute von unverminderter Faszination. Der Spanier José Cobo, 1958 in Santander geboren, zeigt
es. […] Genau das ist und bleibt die zentrale Bezauberung solcher Bildhauerstücke. Wie echt, stellt man verwundert fest, auch wenn es im echten Leben weder gipsweiße Haut noch farblose Augen, Münder oder Pullover gibt. 3 Punts Galerie is proud to present the first solo show in berlin from
José Cobo
.
3 Punts Galerie Berlin presents for the first time the works of the spanish sculptor José Cobo (*Santander,
1958). To celebrate the Art-Season start, the gallery will be populated with his real size figures, most of
them made of epoxy resin. A special installation will also be part of the presentation of Cobo in Berlin.
José Cobo was born in Santander, Cantabria in 1958. That‘s where he lives and works and wher many of his
works for created specifically for public spaces can be seen, as the set of sculptures in bronze “Monument
to the Wreckers”, which is located at Pier Calderón.
José Cobo studied Fine Arts and Sculpture at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1985) and he completed his studies in sculpture and mural painting in Madrid, at the Royal Academy of San Fernando. From 19921995 he was visiting professor of sculpture at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His works are in
many public and private collections in Germany, Italy, Spain, Mexico and USA.

“As in previous works, here José Cobo does not seek to reflect a critical vision of the world, but rather
poses questions from a different angle, contributing to an unexpected enrichment of our perspective on the
human condition. Recalling the three decades of his journey as an artist, one becomes aware of the continuity
of his creation, which has evolved in a harmonious way integrating the new knowledge and discoveries which his
various life experiences have brought him... On the other hand, having turned fifty, makes him return to the
obsessions of infancy in another way, and with a shift in his work he successfully offers us a new perspective
on the understanding of childhood. This gives the artist the possibility of a profoundly meaningful renewal”.

“ No one remains indifferent when watching a child crawling up and down the wall –
Eventhough everyone knows these things only happen on dreams – . […] The spanish sculptor José Cobo succeeds on the issue of mantaining the fascination of such surreal effects despite being obtained through realistic traditional sculpture.
It is exactly their realisim what still remains the main reason for the fascination of these sculptures. They are
real, even with their skin and clothes of cast ans resin, of colorless mouths and eyes, that do not exist in
our real life. […] It is the strength of these pieces of Cobo that allows us to roam about the boundaries of
realism and surrealism and succeding for a moment in moving the earth under our feet.
And such a kind of art is exactly what one desires. An art that does not only come from any theory prothesis
but that has its roots on experience, on intuition. [...]”.

3 Punts Galerie Berlín presenta por primera vez en Berlín la obra del escultor cántabro José Cobo (Santander, 1958). Para celebrar el inicio de la temporada artística, las paredes de la galería se poblarán con sus
figurasa tamaño natural realizadas en gran parte con resina de epoxy. Una instalación muy especial formará
parte también de la presentación de Cobo en Berlín.
José Cobo nació en Santander en 1958. Allí es donde vive y trabaja y donde además, pueden verse buena parte
de sus obras realizadas para espacios públicos, como el conjunto de esculturas en Bronce Monumento a los
Raqueros, que está situado en el Muelle de Calderón.
El artista cántabro realizó sus estudios de Bellas Artes y Escultura en la escuela del Art Institute of Chicago
(1985) y en Madrid, en la Real Academia de San Fernando completó sus estudios de escultura y pintura mural.
De 1992 a 1995 fue profesor invitado de escultura en la escuela del Art Institute of Chicago.
Sus obras forman parte de diversas colecciones públicas y privadas de Alemania, Italia, España, México y USA.

„Como en sus obras anteriores en éstas José Cobo no busca mostrar una visión crítica del mundo sino una
presentación de algunas cuestiones desde otro ángulo distinto que contribuye a enriquecer inesperadamente
nuestra perspectiva sobre el hecho humano. Al recordar las tres décadas de su trayectoria se da uno cuenta
de la continuidad de su creación, que ha evolucionado de un modo armónico e integrado nuevos conocimientos
y vivencias que sus distintas experiencias vitales le han aportado. […] Por otra parte, al cumplir los cincuenta
años, vuelve de otro modo sobre las obsesiones de la infancia y acierta a interpretar, en un giro de su obra,
una nueva perspectiva de comprensión de la niñez. Ella le da al artista la posibilidad de una renovación cargada
de profundo sentido”.

„Al observar a un niño gatear de arriba abajo sobre un muro, ningún corazón adulto puede permanecer indiferente - a pesar de que todo el mundo sabe que esas cosas no suceden en la vida real. Como mucho en la embriaguez o en un sueño [...] La fascinación de tales efectos surrealistas, a pesar de ser obtenidos por medio de
la escultura realista de larga tradición artística, permanece intacta. El español José Cobo, nacido en Santander en 1958 lo consigue. [...] Es exactamente su realidad lo que es y sigue siendo el centro de la fascinación
de esas piezas escultóricas. Son reales, incluso con su piel y sus ropas de resina y yeso, de ojos y bocas
incoloros, que no existen en la vida real. [...] Es la fuerza de estas piezas de Cobo la que permite deambular
por entre las fronteras del realismo y el surrealismo y conseguir por un instante movernos el suelo bajo
los pies. Y un arte así es exactamente lo que uno desea, un arte que no se origine en ninguna prótesis teórica
y que tenga sus raíces en la experiencia, en la intuición. [...]”.
