We invite you to visit one of the largest and most beautiful Christmas
Markets in Germany. Here you will find around 300 stalls displaying fine
handcrafted goods, Christmas decorations, u
­ nusual toys and lots more
to make your heart beat faster during Advent. And what would a stroll
through the Dortmund Christmas Market be without trying the typical
Dortmund mulled wine or one of the other specialities? This year yet
again the special annual mulled wine mugs have a new design. Collectors
will be anxiously waiting to buy one. As in previous years the Dortmund
Christmas Market will once again be catering for all tastes with good
local dishes like sausages and West­phalian grilled ham as well as roasted
almonds, pancakes and many other mouth-watering delicacies.

This useful brochure contains a detachable map of the stalls, a list of all
exhibitors, articles and rides, provides information on the daily p­ rogramme

/ WDR 4 Christmas event
The worlds tallest Christmas tree with a height of 45 meters and adorned
with round about 48,000 lights, will shine again from 6pm on 24th November.
The inauguration will take place at 4pm on 21st October on the Hansaplatz
­complete with mulled wine and grilled sausages.
/ Christmas Market guided tours
There will not just be fascinating stories about the greatest Christmas
tree, but also many curious scents proclaiming peculiar surprises. Mulled
wine and other treats will be awaiting you. Duration: 1 hour, organized by

How did the Dortmund Christmas Market happen to become one of the
largest in Germany? What will the traditional Christmas coin be like this
year? Find the answers to these questions during our fun-filled tour,

The Dortmund Christmas Market certainly has undergone major c­ hanges

In the Christmas Village children can recite ­poems, sing songs, do handicrafts and bake cookies (fee: 2.50 EUR per child, please ­register in ­advance
in writing to »Weihnachtsdorf«, 44104 Dortmund, Germany). On the

can plunge into the magical world of
fairy tales with a talking tree.
At the WDR Christmas event »Weihnacht 2013« Ross Antony and
many other stars performed their popular music on the Hansa­platz to
an enthusiastic crowd of around 7,300. The exact time of this year’s
spectacular WDR show was yet to be confirmed at the time of this
leaflet going to press.
/ Coming by coach
Coach passengers can comfortably alight and board close to the Christmas Market, opposite the Adlerturm in the outside lane at Ostwall 56.
There are parking lots for buses at the Fredenbaumplatz, a few minutes
away from the city centre.

On Saturdays all trains will be running on a 10 minute interval until
8pm. There will be an extended and more frequent service on Sundays. On route U 43 (Dorstfeld – Stadtmitte – Brackel – Wickede)
additional trains will be running between Westentor and Brackel.
There are park and ride facilities from which you can reach the city
centre within minutes, at Derner Straße (Stop: »Schulte Rödding«,
U 42), at the harbour (»Hafen« U 47) and at the central cemetery
(»Hauptfriedhof« U 47). Trains depart every ten minutes from these
stops to the Reinoldikirche (U 42) and Kampstraße (U 47). Take
advantage of the reasonably priced one-day travel pass (»Tages­
Ticket«) for 6.50 EUR. Up to 4 others pay just 3.00 EUR each.
