EVENT OVERVIEW
The European Military Climbing Championships have become an annual event, staged since 2008.
Britain last hosted the event in 2010 in Edinburgh and the British Army Mountaineering Association is
proud to invite international delegations to join them at this year’s championship in Caernarfon,
Wales. The international event will be held alongside the British Inter-Services Climbing
Championships with teams from the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force competing as well.
As well as an indoor competition, the event will be expanded to include the opportunity for
competitors to sample spectacular sport and traditional climbing and bouldering outdoors across
North Wales with the British Services teams and experienced local guides after the competition.
The event will be based out of the Capel Curig Training Camp located in the heart of the Snodonia
National Park in North Wales. The training camp provides easy access to multiple climbing areas
spanning the full range of high quality sport and traditional climbing and bouldering all within 30
minutes drive. Many classic British test pieces are situated across North Wales at Tremadog, in the
Llanberis Pass, on Gogarth and on the Orme, all of which are waiting to be climbed by the
competitors this summer. The Championship will be held at the Beacon Climbing Centre at
Caernarfon. This is the largest indoor climbing arena in North Wales with lead walls up to 17m,
multiple bouldering walls and an IFSC standard speed wall. Full details of the venue can be found at
