Advice on wood care
The resistant Robinia wood does not need any protective coating. Without treatment, a silver-grey patina occurs
within a year.
Except when otherwise stipulated, all play equipment gets coated with a water- and dirt-repellent, weatherproofed,
open-pored and diffusible natural oil-derived gaze. All 2 to 3 years the gaze should be renewed to enhance the
appearance of the equipment. Before coating, all parts have to be dry and clean. Only open-pored and thin-layer
gaze which fulfils the criteria of DIN 53160 "sweat and saliva proofed" is to be used.
Does Robinia wood need any chemical timber proof or protecting paint application?
Because Robinia wood’s high resistance the equipment made of this wood does not need any chemical timber
proof. The company Ziegler uses only special ecological glazes for coloured design. The translucent glaze
enhances the natural grain of the wood and lends a certain hue. Without paint application, a silver-grey patina will
occur after one year. Paint applications to aged wood should be done with a dark colour hue.
How often is the paint application to be renewed? What has to be considered?
All 2 till 3 years (depending on the weathering), the gaze should be renewed. The occurrence of gray parts on the
equipment is a sign of the need of a new paint application. Bevor ein auffrischender Lasurauftrag erfolgt, sollte
das Spielgerät vollständig abgetrocknet sein.
The play equipment needs to be dry, clean and even before painting. Loose wooden parts have to be removed
with the brass wire brush or polisher. Parts covered with moos can be cleaned with the high-pressure water
blaster. The spray gun is useful for the hard-to-reach-parts.
Pay attention to the ingredients of the gaze and compatibility of the solvent. Do not hesitate to contact us in case
of questions. We are pleased to offer you our in-house brand at attractive terms.
What affects the durability of the gaze layer?
The glaze layer will only be absorbed by the wood for 1 mm. Sun, wind, rain and snow strain the coat of paint so
the layer will breach out, dry out, ablated and soak.
The glaze protects the wood against greying as long as it is present. Thicker coats of glaze do not protect the
wood more efficient. Thick layers are less elastic so they cannot adapt to the soaking and fading of the wood. The
result is a cracking layer which will flake off.
That's why wood tending should contain often renewed thin layers of glaze. The wood will absorb the coat of glaze
to an certain degree. Make sure that the pool of glaze which remains on the wood will be removed using the
brush.
