CULTURA E LINGUA
La popolazione ladina fodoma si caratterizza per la
lingua e per l’antica e orgogliosa cultura agricolo artigianale, molto sensibile per tradizione al rispetto
e alla conservazione dell’ambiente.
È con l’annessione delle regioni alpine all’Impero
Romano che la popolazione assimilò il latino “volgare” dei conquistatori, forgiando una propria
lingua romanza parallela all’italiano, al francese e
allo spagnolo.
Nacque in questo modo la lingua ladina, che ancora
oggi ad Arabba viene parlata dalla quasi totalità
della popolazione. L’appartenenza alla ladinità è
un dato considerato con grande orgoglio e non si
ritrova esclusivamente nella lingua o nella documentazione scritta: a dimostrazione di questo fatto
vi sono numerose testimonianze tra le quali il Museo
Ladino, che racconta la storia, gli usi e i costumi della
popolazione locale, e il castello di Andraz. Inoltre la
tradizione culturale ladina è riconoscibile anche nei
costumi, nei canti e nei balli delle feste tradizionali.
Con l’intento di salvaguardare la lingua e la cultura
del popolo ladino è sorta nel 1968 l’Union dei Ladins
da Fodom.

CULTURE AND LANGUAGE
The Ladin – Fodom people are known for their ancient
traditional language, still spoken by all the layer of
the population and are proud of their agricultural and
handcrafted culture. They pay great attention to nature
preservation and to respect for nature.
It is not clear who the original inhabitants of the Fodom
valley were. When the Alpine regions were annexed
by the Roman Empire, local inhabitants assimilated
the “vulgar” Latin spoken by the Roman conquerors
and created their own language characterised by
Italian, French and Spanish influences.

This language is called Ladin and it is still today
widely spoken by the local Fodom population.
Local inhabitants are proud to be considered as part
of the Ladin population.
We can understand this not only by the oral or written
documentation, but also by other different tributes to
this culture: the Ladin Museum, which represents the
history and tradition of the local population and the
Andraz Castle, which is considered a symbol of the
Fodom heritage. This culture can also be recognized
by the traditional dresses, the songs and dances
staged at local town festivals. In 1968 an association
called “Union Ladins da Fodom” was founded in
order to preserve and to enhance the local Fodom
culture and heritage.

KULTUR UND SPRACHE
Die ladinische Volksgruppe Fodom kennzeichnet
sich nicht nur durch ihre Sprache, sondern auch
durch die antike und stolze Landwirtschafts und Handwerkerkultur, die traditionsgemäß sehr
respektvoll mit der Natur umzugehen weiß und sich
für ihre Erhaltung einsetzt.
Infolge der Einverleibung der Gebirgsregionen
in das Römische Reich übernahm das Volk das
Vulgärlatein der Eroberer und bildete eine eigene
zum Italienischen, dem Französischen und dem
Spanischen gleichlaufende romanische Sprache.
So entwickelte sich die ladinische Sprache, die
heute noch fast von der gesamten Bevölkerung in
Buchenstein gesprochen wird.
Die Zugehörigkeit zu der ladinischen Welt wird
von den Leuten mit großem Stolz gelebt und
betrifft nicht nur deren Sprache und schriftliche
Dokumentationen.
Zeugnisse dafür gibt es viele, wie z.B. das Ladinische
Museum, das Geschichte, Sitten und Brauchtum der
heimischen Bevölkerung erzählt, und das Schloß
Buchenstein (Andraz). Die ladinische Kultur ist
ausserdem an den Trachten, Gesängen und Tänzen
der traditionellen Feste erkennbar. Mit der Absicht,
die Sprache und die Kultur des ladinischen Volkes
zu bewahren, entstand im Jahre 1968 die Union dei
Ladins da Fodom.
