Internationales Leipziger Festival für Dokumentar- und Animationsfilm 57th International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film 27 October – 02 November 2014 Press Release #07/2014 14 October 2014 Festival Director thanks supporters for longstanding loyalty A decade of growth and development is behind DOK Leipzig. On the occasion of his departure at the end of this year, Festival Director Claas Danielsen acknowledges the continuing involvement of all supporters of the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film. DOK Leipzig 2014 sees 19 sponsors, 15 funders, and many other partners involved - including by funding awards. A total of 17 awards to the value of 66,500 Euro will be presented at DOK Leipzig this year the highest prize money for a documentary film festival in Germany. Sponsors Among the 19 sponsors are firms such as TELEPOOL GmbH, Computer Leipzig or Ils Medientechnik, which have supported DOK Leipzig since Danielsen took office as director in 2004. Other firms such as IQ Steuerberatungsgesellschaft are new onboard. Still others have markedly expanded their involvement, such as DOK partner MaXxPrint, our media partner MDR, or DOK supporter nextbike, who visibly increase the festival's presence. BIG Cinema and the Technischer FilmDienst were indispensible for the successful digitalisation of the festival over a period of just two years. Furthermore, long-term partners such as the EU-OSHA (European Agency for Safety and Health at Work), CineStar, the Leipzig Fair, modulbox mo systeme, Promenaden Hauptbahnhof, Sky Deutschland and ver.di FilmUnion have stood by DOK Leipzig’s side for many years. The funders, sponsors, partners and donors contributed substantially to the success of the festival with their financial support, extensive material assistance and expertise. “I am exceedingly grateful to our supporters for their continued and sustained involvement”, says Festival Director Class Danielsen. “the development of DOK Leipzig could not have been so dynamic and impressive over the last ten years. The success of the Festival is also their success. I hope very much they will maintain this loyalty beyond my term of office.” Awards The main awards of the festival are the Golden Doves - in a total of five competitions. The Golden Dove in the International Competition Documentary Film, which include the prize money of 10,000 Euro, have been funded by Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) since last year. The Golden Dove in the German Competition Documentary Film also comes with a cash award of 10,000 Euro, as well as the Talent Dove of the Media Foundation of Sparkasse Leipzig in the Young Cinema Competition to serve as seed money for a new documentary film project. The winner of the Golden Dove in the International Competition Animation Film can look forward to receiving 5,000 Euro, and the Silver Dove is worth 2,000 Euro. The Golden Dove for the International Competition Short Documentary Film, sponsored by long-time supporter TELEPOOL GmbH, awards 3,000 Euro. As of last year, a Golden Dove for the Best Animated Documentary Film is to be awarded. This internationally unique prize is likewise worth 3,000 Euro. This year, for the sixth time, DOK sponsor EU-OSHA awards the Healthy Workplaces Film Award of 5,000 Euro to the best documentary film dealing with the theme of 'labour'. The prize includes subtitling in ten European languages. The Stiftung Friedliche Revolution dedicates the Film Prize “Leipziger Ring” to an outstanding documentary film about democracy and human rights. This prize of 5,000 Euro will be awarded in a ceremony on the 29th of October in the Nikolaikirche (Church of St. Nicholas). This year, the DEFA-Stiftung again offers 4,000 Euro for the DEFA Sponsoring Prize in the German Competition Documentary Film. The prize of 2,000 Euro is connected to the subtitling of the film, as well as its inclusion in the Goethe Institute’s distribution. The films in the International Competition Documentary Film compete not only for the much-coveted Golden Dove. The winner of the Prize of Vereinigte Dienstleistungsgewerkschaft ver.di will be the recipient of 2,500 Euro. The Prize of the Ecumenical Jury, supported by VCH-Hotels Deutschland GmbH of the Verband Christlicher Hoteliers e.V., including the MICHAELIS Hotel in Leipzig, consists of an award of 2,000 Euro. For more than a decade, the MDR Film Prize, which comes with a 3,000 Euro cash award, honors an outstanding East European documentary film. The International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film takes place between the 27 October and the 2 November 2014.
