Archaeology Meeting In Aurora
The Nebraska Archaeological Society (NAS) will hold a quarterly meeting on
Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 1:30 PM at the Alice M. Farr Library, in Aurora Nebraska. The Alice M. Farr Library is located at 1603 L Street in Aurora. All meetings
of the NAS are open to the general public and everyone interested in archaeology is
encouraged to attend. This is a great opportunity to bring in that “arrowhead” you
found last summer or “the what is it?” found down by the creek, for possible identification by members of the society.
The guest speaker, Ms. Kelli Bacon, a Preservation Archivist, will give a presentation on the excavation that occurred earlier this summer at Fort Robinson. The
Nebraska State Historical Society led an excavation of Building Number 14, which
was an adobe officers’ quarters. This was done in response to a Nebraska Game &
Parks Commission plan to reconstruct the building. Kelli was part of the excavating
team and will share some exciting information regarding this excavation.
The NAS has members from all areas of Nebraska and several surrounding
states and welcomes all interested persons to attend this meeting and special program.
The Nebraska Archaeological Society endeavors to develop and maintain a better understanding among students and collectors of archaeological material, and
professional archaeologists, as well as museums and institutions of learning. More
information on the Nebraska Archaeological Society can be found on their web site:
http://web.nas.googlepages.com/
The Nebraska Archaeological Society is a member of the Central States Archaeological Society and further information is available at their web site: http://

July 16-21, 2012
Monday morning the cooking
group met and baked up a batch of
muffins. The residents enjoy this and
it is also a good time to get in some
visiting. The muffins were served for
social hour later in the day. A few people were working puzzles this morning,
while others watched a train video. In
the afternoon, the reading group heard
a few more chapters from the “Little
House” book.
Agnes Krobot prayed the Rosary
with the residents Tuesday morning.
The other people listened to a couple
of readings from a daily devotional
book and the “Guideposts” magazine.
Exercise was done in the living room.
It has been so unbearably hot that we
haven’t been outside a lot, but right
after lunch a group decided they
wanted to go out for awhile just to get
some fresh air. The Stuart American
Legion Auxiliary hosted Bingo later in
the afternoon. The helpers who were
here were Fern Seger, Judy Schmitz,
Mary Krysl, Kennison and Jett Kunz,
and Shelbie Hansen. After Bingo, the
residents sat in the living room to listen
to Marjorie Bussinger play the piano
and sing.
Wednesday morning Resident
Council was held. This is a great time
to discuss any problems, or questions
that the residents have. They also
chose the Meal of the Month for August, this time their choice was a Taco
Bar. Judy was busy in the beauty
shop today. They worked on puzzles
again and played a couple of games of
cards in the afternoon. After social
hour, the regular Wednesday movie
was shown in the living room. The
folks also like to watch the polkas on
RFD on Wednesday nights.
Thursday morning Amber went
from room to room and had l:l visits
with most of the residents. They
always find interesting things to talk
about. A handwriting exercise was
also done this morning. Diana was
doing hairstyles in the beauty shop
today. A lively game of horseshoes
was played in the living room right
before lunch where it is always fun to
see who can make a ringer. In the
afternoon, a group of ladies attended
the Red Hat meeting in the Assisted
Living with Helen Kunz and Margaret
Trujillo as the hostesses. The Red
Hat meetings are a very popular activity with the women. A great crowd
of friends and family was on hand for
Thirsty Thursday today. We are always so happy to see the folks who
come in to share this time with our
residents.
Pastor and Mrs. Terry Otto from
the Methodist Church in Atkinson
were here to lead the weekly Protestant church service Friday morning.
Mrs. Otto played the organ for the
hymns that were sung. Most of the
ladies had their nails freshly polished
today, and this is also a good time
for l:l visits. Several folks enjoyed
Wii bowling this morning, while another group snapped beans from the
garden. Father Luke Steffes was
here to celebrate Mass with the residents and people from the community. An ice cream social was held
after Mass. Everyone was happy to
see Frank Murphy when he came to
entertain everyone at 4:00 p.m. We
all enjoy listening to Frank.
Amber read the local papers to
the residents Saturday. We always
like to keep up with the latest news.
She was also the hostess for the
Saturday social hour. A group of
residents went outside to shuck a
batch of sweet corn. We are starting
to get some fresh garden produce in
and we are all very happy about this.
Again, we were happy to listen to
Marjorie play the piano today.

DELORES MAE SEGER
August 12, 1931 ~ July 14, 2012
DeLores Mae (Karo)
Seger, age 80, a long time
Milaca, MN resident passed
from this life to eternal life on
Saturday, July 14, 2012 at
Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids surrounded by her loved
ones.
DeLores was born on
August 12, 1931 on the family ranch near Stuart, NE to
Max and Marie (Skrdla)
Karo. She attended country
school and then went on to
high school in Stuart from
where she graduated with the Class
of 1949. As a young woman,
DeLores taught country school in
Holt County, NE for three years. She
was united in marriage to James V.
Seger on June 4, 1951 at St. John’s
Lutheran Church in Atkinson, NE.
This union was blessed with four
children: Mike, Ron, Cathy and
Julee. DeLores devoted herself to
making a warm and loving home for
her family. She was a wonderful
cook and baker who will long be remembered for her homemade
chicken and noodles over mashed
potatoes, potato salad and caramel
rolls. DeLores was known for being a
hard worker, farming alongside her
husband on their ranch in Nebraska.
In 1965, they purchased a farm near

many years. Her faith
was a vibrant and important part of her life.
She had been involved
with the Via de Cristo
renewal weekends and served as a
short-term missionary to Guatemala
in 2001. In the past 12 years,
DeLores peeled tens of thousands of
apples to make pies which were sold
to support the church work in Guatemala and encouraged her family and
friends to contribute to the ministry
as well. In addition to her work with
the church, DeLores was active with
the Hansen-Hayes American Legion
Post #178 Auxiliary, serving as a
president and helping to coordinate
the annual blood drive. Despite her
busy schedule, DeLores made her
family and friends a priority. She was
always up for a game of cards or a
round of bingo and patiently taught
each of her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren how to play her favorite games. Not only was DeLores
adored by her 12 grandchildren, but
she also became “Grandma” to the
many children she provided daycare
for and to her grandchildren’s sports
teams. Above all, DeLores will be
cherished as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who
left her loving fingerprints eternally
on the lives and hearts of each of her
