London
„ For all its luxurious fixtures and fittings, London is not always an easy city to
enjoy. It is tough and sprawling and inscrutable. It is violently fluid and fickle.
Fortunes rise and fall in a flash, and last month‘s hot spot can be as bleak and
empty as a prairie by the time you pitch up (there are many who will tell you
that New York City is a much more comforting patch). London is a city of cliques and protected spaces, of neighbourhoods entirely at oddswith each other, as
if they were parts of entirely different cities.
It is also, as if you need telling, the most thrilling of places. Fifteen years ago,
London‘s claim to be one of the world‘s greatest cities was far from convincing.
Now it is without doubt a vital global city, an international focal point for art
and commerce. And then there are the people. Every talented son or daughter
of Europe and beyond, or so it seems, is trying their luck in London right now,
seeing if they can make it fly. Many of them - part-time at least - are manning
the incredible range of restaurants, bars, cafés and stores that this city throws
at you. In 2005, London overtook Los Angeles as the most cosmopolitan city in
the world. And you soon know it and feel it. The problem is plotting a course
through it all, as London scatters its treasure far and wide. We can think of no
other city that requires so much insider nous to navigate properly. And that‘s
where we come in, of course.“

Die Exkursion nach London bildet den Auftakt des Entwurfsthemas „urban land
scape“. Grundlage für ein räumliches Konzept ist die ausführliche Analyse und
Bewertung des Gesamtraums Woolwich und die Interpretation der existierenden
Strukturen.
Hier sollen eigene Recherchen angestellt werden, das Bearbeitungsgebiet soll kennengelernt, analysiert, „gelesen“ und grafisch umgesetzt werden.
Zudem soll jedes Entwurfsteam oder jeder Entwerfer vor Ort eine Dokumentation
erstellen.
Mit dieser Einstiegsübung soll der thematische Blickwinkel vorbereitet, der Bearbeitungsraum aus einer konkreten, analytischen Sicht wahrgenommen werden. Sowohl
künstlerische, als auch dokumentarische Positionen sind hierbei denkbar.
Ausgehend von abstrakten Begriffen soll das Entwurfsgebiet dargestellt und interpretiert werden und in Form eines (Road-)Movies, einer Dokumentation, Fotostrecke,
Bildergeschichte, Soundcollage, Storyboard, Trickfilm, ... etc. aufbereitet werden.
