million in Department of Homeland
Security and state of California
grants for a total of $11.7 million.
Security enhancements include:
• Joint Operations and Security
Center (JOSC): This project in-
cluded the JOSC and redundant infrastructure creating a regional asset within the port security community. JOSC is equipped with surveillance monitoring, TWIC compliant
access control, regional communications network and Incident Command systems. Total Project Cost:
$2,840,026.
• City of Port Hueneme Emergency Operations Center (EOC)
Power Backup & Protection: This

Farmworkers vehicles targeted
by thieves, police said
The Camarillo Police Department
has issued a warning advising the
public about a recent increase of
criminal activity involving vehicle
burglaries and thefts in the farm
fields surrounding the city.
According to authorities, during the
months of January and February,
thieves targeted vehicles belonging
to field workers and ranchers in the
Oxnard plains and Somis areas. Specifically, vehicles parked along the
dirt roads.
Police said vehicles had windows
smashed to gain entry and property
was stolen from inside. Numerous
stereos, wallets and cell phones were
taken.
Some vehicles have also been stolen, including trucks belonging to the
ranch owners which were left unlocked with keys in them, police said.
Authorities said these crimes occurred during daytime hours while
the victims were working in the
fields.
Authorities would like to advise the
public not to leave any valuables in
the vehicles whether they are out of
view or not. Furthermore, locking
cars and not leaving keys inside will
help prevent criminal activity, police
said.
Anyone seeing suspicious activity
is encouraged to immediately call
911 or (805) 654-9511. Authorities
said to provide a description of the
suspect, approximate height, weight,
clothing description, any unique features, vehicle license number, year,
make, model, color and last known
direction of travel.
Anyone with information may also
contact Crime Stoppers at 800-2228477. Ventura County Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 reward for
information, which leads to the arrest and criminal complaint against
the person or persons responsible for
this crime. The caller may remain
anonymous, police said.
Cillizza and his Post colleague
Aaron Blake sum up the stakes for
the Republican Party as follows: “If
Republicans go through another
election cycle in 2014 in which candidates espousing strong opposition
to any sort of compromise on immigration are rewarded by winning primaries, it could well do permanent
damage to the party’s standing in the
Hispanic community and, by extension, its paths to the White House in
2016 and beyond. It’s no exaggeration then to say that getting immigration right, politically speaking, is
absolutely critical to Republicans’
electoral hopes over the next decade
or more.”

Placing recyclables into curbside
carts or commercial recycling bins is
only the first step in the recycling

by a symbol featuring three chasing
arrows in the shape of a triangle. The
first arrow represents collection, the
second is processing, and the third is
the manufacturing of a recyclable into
a new product.
This final step in this process is often the hardest. Products made with
recycled content often must offer
some quality, durability, or price advantage over “virgin” products because some buyers mistakenly believe
something recycled is of lower quality. Given this misguided mindset of
some consumers, manufacturers using recycled content often face a
tough challenge, but without such

The RMDZ program celebrated its
most recent success with an event at
Santa Paula Materials last week.
Santa Paula Materials manufactures
road base, the aggregate material on
top of which streets are built. To make
this product, they crush discarded
concrete and asphalt, combining the
size-sorted pieces with rock and other
inert material. Concrete and asphalt
are the heaviest recyclables in all of
Ventura County, so having more such
facilities reduces transport costs and
lowers per-ton recycling charges, increasing contractors’ and do-it-yourself homeowners’ incentives to keep
it out of the landfills.
At that event, County Supervisor
Kathy Long, Santa Paula City Councilman Jim Tovias, and representatives of State Senator Hannah-Beth
Jackson and Assemblyman Das Williams presented Santa Paula Materials with commendations and a check
other than a change in residence address or registered owner. A new
fictitious business name must be filed

estar a 40 ºF (4.4 ºC) o menos
y en el congelador a 0 ºF (17.8 ºC) o menos.
Todos los asados, filetes y
chuletas, de carne de res, cerdo, cordero y ternero, deben
alcanzar una temperatura interna mínima de 145 ˚F (62.8
˚C) al ser cocinados. Siempre
hongos. Aunque algunos no
deben limpiarse tan pronto

Obama quiere limar asperezas
transigencia.
