CHOiR Chapel
Die Grabsteine stammen von dem die Vorgängerkirche der Frauenkirche umgebenden Friedhof und wurden beim Bau der barocken
Frauenkirche als Steinmaterial verwendet. Heute erinnern die
während der archäologischen Enttrümmerung geborgenen Steine
an die eigene Sterblichkeit.
Von der Auferstehungshoffnung zeugen die drei Fragmente eines
alten steinernen Kruzifixes, die über dem Durchgang gegenüber
dem Eingang angeordnet sind.

The Berlin artist Michael Schoenholtz created this tower of Commandments.
So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto
wisdom. psalm 90,12

The tombstones originate from the graveyard of the church which was
located here before todays Frauenkirche. They were used as building
material while constructing the baroque church and discovered
through the archaeological rubble clearance. Now they remind us
of our own mortality.
The three fragments of an old stone crucifix which are located opposite
the entrance close to the passage symbolize the hope for resurrection.

Nimm Kontakt zum Raum auf: Schreite den kreuzförmigen Grundriss
ab, berühre dabei die alten Mauern.
IMPULS: Das Kreuz lädt ein, sich der Dimensionen von Raum und Zeit
bewusst zu werden. Denke an einen Menschen nördlich, südlich, östlich
und westlich von Dir, an einen Menschen, der Dir in der Vergangenheit

Der aus Indien stammende, heute in London lebende jüdische Künstler Anish Kapoor schuf den Altar aus einem stark marmorisierten irischen Kalkstein.
IMPULS: Vielleicht gibt es in Deinem Leben eine persönliche Erfahrung von Schuld. Was belastet Dich? Du kannst Deine Erfahrung aufschreiben und den
Zettel zusammen gefaltet in die trichterförmige Vertiefung des Altars sinken lassen. Über dem Altar der Unterkirche schwebt das Kreuz – Zeichen, dass
Gott uns Menschen durch Leiden und Auferstehung seines Sohnes ein für allemal vergeben hat. Bei ihm ist alle Schuld aufgehoben.

The Indian born and today living in London artist Anish Kapoor created this altar from an irish lime rock with marble like features.
IMPULSE: Maybe you have personally experienced guilt in your life. What stresses you? You may write your experiences down, fold the piece of paper
and place it in the deepening of the altar. Above the altar of the lower church floats the cross – a sign that God has forgiven us through the sufferings and
resurrection of his son. With him, all guilt is nullified.

geblieben waren.
