HASTINGS 2016
DAY 1
27 JUNE 2016
HASTINGS
The first day. Everyone was very excited - today our class trip was finally going to
begin. The travelling by coach was great fun because everyone was playing e.g. card
games or listening to music. When we crossed the ocean we could watch the chalk
rocks coming closer. They were very beautiful. After another two hours on the coach
we finally entered Hastings. First we went to the beach and took lots of photos. Then
our guided tour started. We went through Hastings and visited a lot of interesting
places. When the tour ended we finally met our host family. It was a great day.

DAY 2
28 JUNE 2016
ROBERTSBRIDGE & BATTLE
When we were on our five day class trip to England we visited Robertsbridge
Community College. Even though England was not what I had expected the college was awesome!
In English schools the students have to wear a special uniform. I really like that. How
cool it would be if we had school uniforms, too.
At first we met the German class and we had to discuss with each other. We asked
them English questions and they asked German questions. Simple and funny. It's
interesting to hear how English people are speaking German. After that we did a vocabulary quiz. We met up with an English partner and then we had to learn words in
English and German. Then we had to pick the correct translations for words that appeared on the computer screen.
The best part was a guided tour through the school. Pretty nice and much bigger
than our school with a football field and a separate building for art classes etc. Also
special about this school is that the teachers have their own rooms, so it is not like in
our school that the students have a classroom but the students have to go to every
teacher`s room. Poor English students.
In the break we sat down at the football field and watched many students playing
football.

Again and again students came and talked with us and at this point I have to say
that the students have a terrible sense of humour. We were being watched all the
time. I don't know if I liked that.
Every one of us went to one class to see what the lessons are like. I went to the
French class and I was surprised how quiet the English students were. Nobody
shouted through the classroom and it was completely different from our lessons in
Germany.
It was sad that we had only one day at Robertsbridge Community College. I would
have loved to meet more English girls … and boys. So all in all it was a pretty nice
day and a nice experience!

After we visited Robertsbridge School we spent 2 hours in the Abbey ruins of Battle. The abbey was built in the 13th century on the ground where William the Conquerer had fought the famous Battle of Hastings in 1066. The weather was really
good and the sun was shining. The area was very beautiful and interesting. There
were tall ruins, a huge walled garden and lots of fields as well as a lot of greenery.
The best thing was that you were allowed to walk inside the ruins and have a close
look at everything. There was so much to explore! There was also a medieval fridge
called “Icehouse” which was a bit scary.

DAY 3
29 JUNE 2016
CANTERBURY & HASTINGS
When we arrived at Canterbury at 10:30 pm, we met our Official Guide (picture) for
our tour through the city. He showed us all the important sights we needed to see in
Canterbury e.g. Canterbury Castle (picture) or Canterbury Cathedral (picture).
5
After that we could spend three hours in the city. A highlight was for example the
sweets shop Hardy’s (picture).
Back at Hastings we wanted to do something special. Because we had no better
idea, we went to the Town Amusement Casino. It was very funny. But we only spent
30 minutes there and then we left for walking back to our host families. But it was
very rainy and stormy. That’s why we got cold and wet very quickly.

DAY 4
30 JUNE 2016
LONDON
On Thursday, the 30th of June, we started our trip to London. We met at 7:30
o´clock on the Lidl parking lot and stepped into the bus.
When we arrived in London after two and a half hours we first stopped at the Tower
of London. We walked around the square and we were also able to see the famous
Tower Bridge across the Thames. We took a lot of pictures there and had a look at
the big castle, where the crown jewels of the queen are.

The Tower Bridge
Later a guide came to our bus. Together we drove through London and saw lots of
sights and old buildings. Our guide explained everything very well and informed us
about important dates. It was enormous to see how old and new buildings are connected by streets which are full of people. Most interesting were of course Big Ben,
Westminster Abbey, the London Eye and Buckingham Palace.

After that we went to the Westminster Pier and there we went on a sightseeing tour
with a boat to the Tower Bridge. On the way we saw a lot of interesting sights, for
example Shakespeare´s Globe Theatre or the ugliest building in London. We could
also take beautiful pictures of the London Eye and of the Tower Bridge. The guide on
the boat spoke English quickly, so sometimes it was difficult to understand, but she
explained everything well.
Then we went with the DLR to Greenwich. When we arrived at the centre of Greenwich, we saw the big ship, the Cutty Sark. We had time to visit the shops, but only
for a few minutes. Some bought drinks from Starbucks, the others bought food for
the return journey the next day. We walked through the Greenwich park, which was
8
very big but also exhausting because it was uphill all the time. At the end of the day
we could say that it had been the most exciting day of our class trip.

DAY 5
1 JULY 2016
OUR WAY BACK HOME
The journey back to Lüdinghausen was rather uneventful. We crossed the Channel
once again, found ourselves in the middle of a traffic jam around Antwerpen for
three hours and passed the time sleeping, eating lots of crisps, singing songs and
playing computer games together.
