2013 marked the beginning of
the world economy’s recovery.
Following several years of
instability, in the final quarter of
last year, the conditions
necessary for laying the
foundations of economic growth
for 2014, both for advanced and
emerging economies, were
finally established.
In recent years, GRUPO IBEROSTAR has adopted a series of measures that
have allowed us to continue growing, improving our products and
services, consolidating our leading position within the sector, and to invest
decisively in new technologies.
Throughout 2013, GRUPO IBEROSTAR has taken up new challenges and
embarked upon significant projects aimed at expanding and developing
the value of our brands through projects which provide and enrich the
holiday experience of our clients. Proof of this lies in our significant
investment in the Riviera Nayarit, in Mexico, the addition of new hotels in
Majorca, Spain and the refurbishment of several hotels in Spain and the
Caribbean.
Some of the most prominent projects have been focussed on
strengthening our management and promotion through the channels
which represent the present and future in the world of communication.
We continue to concentrate on attaining a greater presence online and on
social networks, improving interactivity with our clients and stimulating
personalised, fluent and constant contact with them.

A journey through the history

2004
2008
The origin of the company goes back to the
end of the 19th century, with the founding
of the Fluxà family footwear business, the
first of its kind on the island of Majorca, in
Spain.
GRUPO IBEROSTAR sets up the IBEROSTAR
FOUNDATION, an institution for social
action, cultural development and
cooperation in development.
GRUPO IBEROSTAR creates a new real
estate department, IBEROSTATE Golf, Villas
& Condos, dedicated to developing luxury
holiday properties in exclusive areas within
5-star IBEROSTAR hotel resorts.
1956
GRUPO IBEROSTAR enters into the tourism
industry as Viajes Iberia, founded in 1930,
and started to create alliances with some of
the most prestigious tour operators in
Europe, the USA and Canada.
1986
Miguel Fluxà founds the first IBEROSTAR
hotels in Majorca and the Canary Islands.
1993
IBEROSTAR Hotels & Resorts commences
its international expansion process with its
first hotel in the Caribbean.
2006
GRUPO IBEROSTAR sells its issuing
companies in order to focus on hotels, a key
business area for the group. IBEROSERVICE,
the incoming tourism department, is
maintained.
2011
2007
GRUPO IBEROSTAR consolidates its hotel
division in 15 countries around the world
and extends the Grand Collection hotel line.
The expansion process continues as urban
hotels are targeted in tourist destinations
such as Budapest, Havana and Tenerife
(Canary Islands).
GRUPO IBEROSTAR buys a 5% stake in
Grupo ACS and launches a new line of
luxury hotels: The Grand Collection.

Corporate Social
Responsibility
GRUPO IBEROSTAR understands Corporate Social Responsibility as a
commitment to society and the environment, which should involve a
responsible and ethical management model when carrying out all
the company's business activities. The aim is to contribute to
developing a fairer and more equal society.
This commitment is carried out from a
standpoint of good corporate governance,
through to environmental protection,
touching on sustainable innovation through
a work environment that encourages
professional development, promotes equal
opportunities and a genuine concern for
the common good.
The scope of this new CSR policy includes the
Board of Directors as the main driver behind
the philosophy. Employees are included as the
beneficiaries of the equal opportunities
policies, while customers are also included as
the main reason for all the company's
activities. Finally, suppliers are a key part of the
value chain and society in general.

That is why GRUPO IBEROSTAR signed the
Global Code of Ethics for Tourism in 2011.
This document, drawn up by the World
Tourism Organization (WTO), aims to
encourage companies to commit
voluntarily to guidelines for responsible and
sustainable tourism. The company also
signed the ECPAT Code of Conduct, which
is promoted by UNICEF, to help protect
children and adolescents against sexual
exploitation in tourism.
Over the years we have also carried out
numerous social actions in the same vein.
Proof of this lies in the certification that the
majority of our hotels have received from
major global organisations, such as ISO,
Green Globe and Green Key certifications
for environmental management and
sustainability, among others. As recognition
of the Group's commitment to saving
energy, we contribute to the development
of local communities and environmental
protection.
Furthermore, during the approval process
for the "Supplier Portal" in 2013, the
company drew up the "Iberostar
sustainable progress pact", which
IBEROSTAR suppliers should gradually sign
up to. This pact includes a number of
guidelines and commitments related to
human rights, work standards,
environmental protection and so on.

In May 2004, the IBEROSTAR FOUNDATION was established, a nonprofit institution that supports social action, cultural promotion and
education for development. The activities and projects organised by
the Foundation aim to meet the Social Responsibility objectives of
GRUPO IBEROSTAR and, in this sense, all the initiatives are aimed at
improving the social situation, welfare, education and culture of those
most in need.
SOCIAL ACTION
EDUCATION FOR DEVELOPMENT
CULTURAL PROMOTION
The IBEROSTAR FOUNDATION promotes
numerous projects and social initiatives.
These include the "Solidarity Concert" by
Plácido Domingo, with profits going towards
ten non-profit organisations in the Balearic
Islands; the "Solidarity Concert" by Los
Chicos del Coro in aid of Cáritas Mallorca;
the Charity Recital of Josep Carreras, in aid
of charities fighting against leukaemia; and
the "Solidarity Festival" of Chayanne in
support of the most vulnerable children.
The IBEROSTAR FOUNDATION is currently
developing the following social and
educational projects:
WEAVING TOMORROW: construction of the
Mata de São João Education Centre (Brazil)
in collaboration with UNICEF to support
child development and help low-income
families.
XICS TÁNGER: Building a high school and
sports training facility together with the F.C.
Barcelona Foundation, in a low-income area
in Beni Makada.
COMMITTED TO ANANTAPUR: Creating a
residence for high-school students in
Anantapur (India) with the Vicente Ferrer
Foundation.
INTEGRAL DEVELOPMENT IN EARLY
CHILDHOOD: Rehabilitation of five care
centres in Santiago de Cuba (Cuba) in
collaboration with UNICEF.
This involves sharing and spreading cultural
and social content, while inviting celebrities
and other personalities to take part,
including: the former Foreign Minister of
Germany and winner of the Prince of
Asturias Award for International Cooperation,
Dr. Helmut Kohl, and the Prince of Asturias
Award for Concord, Vicente Ferrer, as well as
the Nobel Peace Prize winners, Dr. Rigoberta
Menchú and Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
In terms of education, we continue to support
the "IBEROSTAR SCHOLARSHIPS" project,
which awards scholarships to three students
from the University School of Hotel
Management in the Balearic Islands every
year. This promotes commitment to talent,
training and youth, both now and in the future.
In 2013, in collaboration with the Institut
Malloquí d'Afers Socials (IMAS), as part of
the Consell de Mallorca, the Iberostar
Foundation began refurbishing the Ca
L'Ardiaca Centre for the homeless. The
reform will improve the centre's facilities and
will provide it with 70 additional spaces.

These social actions complement the
tremendous work of the IBEROSTAR
FOUNDATION, which won the 2008 Social
