Les classes nominales die Nominalklassen the noun classes Every noun in Wolof belongs to Jedes Nomen (Hauptwort) one of eight noun classes. im Wolof gehört zu einem von acht Nominalklassen. Nahezu jedes Nomen kann mit der Nominalklasse b- gebildet werden. Darüberhinaus können viele Nomen noch einen anderen Klassifikator annehmen. Häufig korrespondiert der Anfangskonsonant des Nomen mit der Nominalklasse. Die Klassifikatoren sind vergleichbar mit den Artikeln im Deutschen. Sie können vor oder hinter dem Nomen stehen. Bei vielen Nomen bestimmt der Anlaut die Zugehörigkeit zur Nominalklasse (z.B. baaraam bi, le doigt, der Finger, the finger). Leider ist das aber längst nicht bei allen Nomen so. Der Plural (die Mehrzahl) besteht im Wolof aus zwei Nominalklassen.
