Further information about the procedure
In the following you will find additional information about the mammogram breast cancer screening procedure,
designed to secure the quality assurance standards of our programme:
• The results of your mammogram cannot be given to you immediately since at least two independent
radiologists must be consulted. For this reason, you will receive the results by post within eight working days
of your mammogram.
• The Medical Technical Radiology Assistant (MTRA) will tell you after the mammogram whether the image
quality was technically adequate for assessment. Neither the MTRA nor the reception staff can comment on
a diagnosis.
• If the investigation reveals anything unusual, you will be contacted by your physician and invited to attend further investigations. Please note that this is in the interest of your safety and by no means indicates a
diagnosis of “breast cancer”. To exclude disease it is often necessary to take additional images and/or perform an ultrasound investigation. 95% of these additional procedures lead to a negative result (i.e. not breast
cancer).
• Please complete and sign the health questionnaire and bring it with you on the day of your appointment.
