Whatever your passion, Tahoe South

stately groves of pines, and ludicrously gorgeous

Recreation
In case you didn’t know, there’s a lake
up here. A big lake. We know—how
unexpected. A beautiful, clear lake that you
can splash around in to your heart’s content,
along with plenty of other activities.
At South Lake Tahoe you can water-ski, perhaps
reenacting the infamous Fonzie-jumping-the-shark
episode of "Happy Days." Or be a little more
XGames-y and try wakeboarding. Maybe take a
stand-up paddleboarding lesson and glide across
the lake’s surface with dignity.
Or take the opportunity to climb aboard a kayak,
sailboat, or historic paddle wheeler for a sunset cruise.
If that sounds utterly sleep-inducing, may we suggest
hopping on a speedboat at Zephyr Cove going fast
enough to make your lips flap in the breeze.
Not predatory enough? Go fishing! With visibility
to 75 feet below its surface, Lake Tahoe is home to
more fish than you can shake a pole at. Just be on the

lookout for Tahoe Tessie—the dragon-dinosaur that is
rumored to swim in Tahoe’s depths.
Whatever kind of aquatic adventure you embark on,
finish up with a South Lake Tahoe tradition: tacos at

Biking
Mountain bikers are a special breed of
crazy, and Tahoe South’s legendary
trails draw these daredevils from far and
wide. Some of them even live here
permanently, so your knobby tires will
be in good local company.
From the heart-pounding downhill track of the
Saxon Creek Trail (nickname: Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride)
to the gorgeous Flume Trail, there are rides for every
technical level. For the truly ambitious, you can link
trails and ride seven summits in one day.
Tahoe South has been designated as a Bike
Friendly Community, so bike paths for the social
spin are plentiful and so are shops staffed by experts
that rent and sell high-quality bikes. The famed loop
around Lake Tahoe is 72 miles of scenery: deep blue
water, Douglas fir groves, and breathtaking views of
lodging and plenty of eateries to fuel the journey.
The best part about biking in South Lake Tahoe?
Plunging your sweaty self into the lake after your ride.
Easy beach access means you can go straight from
the trails to the water. Trust us, you’ll need a rinse.

It’s good for the soul to wander outside
the range of cell phone service—or at
least act like you did.
Tahoe South has plenty of opportunities for hiking or
trail running up glacier-carved granite slopes, finding
hidden waterfalls, and discovering alpine meadows
painted with wildflowers. Your inner naturalist will be
delighted. The South Lake Tahoe region is crossed
with an extensive network of backcountry trails that is
sure to lead you to your happy place, though runners
looking for paved paths will not be disappointed. For
the truly dedicated pavement-pounders, the Lake
Tahoe Marathon happens each September.
You could spend a week backpacking through
Desolation Wilderness, or just go day-tripping with a
picnic. Lake Tahoe has hiking trails for the hard-core
and weekend warrior alike. You could even get your
including the 165-mile Tahoe Rim Trail.
In winter, show cold who’s boss by strapping on
some snowshoes, and you'll be rewarded with snowy
solitude and breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe at its
most serene. The best part of hiking or running uphill
is knowing that the way down is way easier—and
you’ve earned the right to celebrate with a big meal
and a cocktail. Or three.

What could be more spectacular than
rushing blue water cascading 100 feet into
a pool so clear you can see the rocks
40 feet below? That’s what you’ll find at
Glen Alpine Falls–just above Fallen

spectacular falls in and around

heart—actual children can have a great
time here, too. And if you bring your

A family-friendly destination, Lake Tahoe's South
Shore offers everything from arcades to helicopter
tours. We’ve got hot-air balloons, special events, and
even miniature golf.

Gaming
& Casinos
Calling all high rollers and slot pullers,
dice-kissers and poker faces.
Home to world-class casinos that are refreshingly
free of Vegas-style glitz, Tahoe South is the place
to get your game on. You may feel slightly virtuous
after spending the day in the great outdoors: time to
undo that feeling. If ever there was a place to rally,
Lake Tahoe South Shore is it. Our hotels and casinos
attract big-name entertainment, so you can catch a
headline show and follow the performance with an
indulgent meal at one of our top-notch restaurants.
Or bring your tired-out hiking legs into a luxury spa
for a pampering massage, made even sweeter by the

knowledge that you’re not sleeping in a tent. Yay for
civilization!
Tahoe South has the best of both worlds:
natural scenery that borders on the ridiculously
beautiful, coupled with nightlife that doesn’t quit. If
you play your cards right, you can experience both
sides of the coin in one day (see what we did there?).
All bets are decidedly on.

It’s easy to see why Tahoe South is
home to a thriving arts scene: a striking
landscape saturated with color, a
laid-back, natural vibe, and some good
old-fashioned mountain eccentricity. It’s
a recipe for a decidedly unpretentious
creative community.
South Lake Tahoe is dotted with working studios and
exhibiting galleries, though you’re just as likely to
find local artists and crafters showing their work at
one of the many festivals while the weather is warm.
Live performances take center stage at the annual
Valhalla Arts, Music and Theatre Festival. Once a
favorite getaway for Northern California’s elite in
the late 1800s, the historic Valhalla Grand Hall and
Boathouse Theatre have been transformed into Tahoe
South's art and cultural center for more than 30 years.
Tahoe South’s culture extends beyond all this
artsy-fartsy stuff. For a rich history and a majestic
landscape, those seeking authentic local experiences
don’t have to look far. Stay at historic Camp Richardson
Resort, which has provided city folk a lakefront
retreat since 1924, or tour Vikingsholm, another
grand estate of the 1920s in Emerald Bay.
For local character and sustainable tourism,
nothing beats the great outdoors. Hike the Tahoe
Rim Trail or take a nature walk through D.L. Bliss
State Park. Just be sure you only talk to humans—
the bears don’t want to chat.

Shredding on the slopes or cycling around Lake Tahoe will certainly work
up an appetite. Put down the granola, because Tahoe South is a mountain
dining destination. With restaurant options from fancy-pants 4-star joints, to
all-you-can-eat buffets, you can eat out in whatever style you please.
You could feel terribly glamorous dining beachside or with a lake view—
Tahoe South boasts more than a dozen locations for an eye feast–or bring the
whole crew to one of the many family-friendly restaurants. There are even
dog-friendly dining spots (but please leave your pet mountain lion at home).
Whatever your preferred cuisine, the Tahoe South foodie
