Liebe Tagungsteilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer,
im Namen der Göttinger Zoologen begrüßen wir Sie ganz herzlich zur 107. Jahrestagung der
Deutschen Zoologischen Gesellschaft in Göttingen. Besondere Grüße gehen an die vielen
jungen Wissenschaftler und die zahlreichen internationalen Tagungsredner. Wir freuen uns sehr
über die große Resonanz auf unsere Tagungseinladung und die zahlreichen Tagungsbeiträge, die
spannende Einblicke in neueste Entwicklungen in der zoologischen Entwicklungsbiologie,
Physiologie, Neurobiologie, Morphologie, Ökologie, Verhaltensbiologie, Systematik und
Evolutionsbiologie versprechen.
Die Georg-August-Universität Göttingen hat eine wesentliche Rolle in der Geschichte der
Deutschen Zoologie gespielt. Der Arzt und Naturalist Johann Friedrich Blumenbach (1752-1840)
gilt als Vater der vergleichenden Zoologie und der biologischen Anthropologie, der Zoologe
Ernst Ehlers (1835-1925) war Präsident der DZG, der Genetiker und Entwicklungsphysiologe
Alfred Kühn (1885-1968) verfasste das bekannte und noch immer weithin eingesetzte Lehrbruch
„Grundriss der Allgemeinen Zoologie“, und der Zoologe Peter Ax (1927-2013) war einer der
wichtigsten Deutschen Vertreter der Phylogenetischen Systematik.
Nach den DZG-Tagungen in den Jahren 1889, 1923 und 1966 findet die Tagung zum vierten
Mal in Göttingen statt, und wir bedanken uns ganz herzlich bei allen, die bei der Organisation
und Ausrichtung der Tagung mitwirken. Dies gilt insbesondere für die vielen Sponsoren und die
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, die die Tagung finanziell unterstützen, die vielen Studenten,
die bei der Vorort-Betreuung mitwirken, die Firma „event lab.“ und die Georg-August-Universität
Göttingen.
Wir freuen uns über Ihre Teilnahme, auf Ihre Beiträge und auf anregende Diskussionen.

The German Primate Center (DPZ) is a non-university research institute and
member of the Leibniz Association. It covers the entire field of research with and
about non-human primates with special foci on infectious diseases, neuroscience
and primate biology. For its own research and to support other institutions, the
DPZ is active in primate housing and breeding. Your visit to the DPZ will include
a short introduction to the research at the DPZ and a guided tour to the outdoor
breeding and housing facilities where we will discuss primate research, animal
experimentation and breeding.
Please register at the registration desk, where you will also find information on
how to get to the DPZ by public transport and further details. Please note that
the number of participants is limited and that their age must be more than 15

Functional genetic research has been limited to very few highly developed
model systems like Drosophila melanogaster, Mus musculus and Caenorhabditis
elegans. Hence, most of what we know in terms of gene function is restricted
to these model systems and to biological processes represented there. Since
recently, new technical developments allow extending functional genetics to
more species: New generation sequencing is used for the detection of genes,
RNA interference (RNAi) can knock down gene function in many species
and recently, the CRISPR system has been established to generate targeted
mutations. Further, transgenic techniques based on widely applicable transposon
systems can be used in many model species and the large scale RNAi screen
iBeetle is detecting novel gene functions independent from the Drosophila
paradigm.
We will give an overview on the use of these techniques and the respective
prerequisites that are needed to establish them in the organism of choice. In
the discussion we will share our experience in applying these new tools to novel
model systems.

Die 108. Jahrestagung der Deutschen Zoologischen Gesellschaft (DZG), der wichtigsten
Tagung für Zoologen in Deutschland, findet vom Di. 8. – Sa. 12. September 2015 an der
Karl-Franzens-Universität in Graz, Österreich, statt.

Gemeinsam mit den Fachgruppen der DZG werden internationale RednerInnen eingeladen werden, die einen Einblick in die neuesten Entwicklungen der Forschung aus dem
breiten Spektrum der Zoologie geben werden. Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer können
durch Poster oder Kurzvorträge ihre Forschungsprojekte vorstellen. Darüber hinaus
werden Satelliten-Symposien veranstaltet – aus derzeitiger Sicht das Symposium „Insect
timing - mechanisms, plasticity and interactions“ und das „Cichlid science PhD-student
meeting“. Die DZG-Jahrestagung bietet vor allem jungen WissenschaftlerInnen ein hervorragendes Forum zur Präsentation Ihrer Forschungsergebnisse.
Ecology
Das Institut für Zoologie der Karl-Franzens-Universität ist eines von vier Instituten in
Österreich. Es hat seit den Arbeiten von Karl von Frisch einen Forschungsschwerpunkt in
der Bienenforschung, sowie in jüngerer Zeit im Bereich der Sensorischen Ökologie und
der Evolutionsbiologie.
