Sehr geehrte Damen
und Herren, werte Kunden,
Dear Sir or Madam,
Dear valued Customer,
selten wird die Bedeutung des Netzwerkes,
das wir gemeinsam bilden – Sie als Betreiber
und wir als Hersteller von Kommissioniersystemen – so deutlich wie bei der Entstehung
neuer Produkte. Die aktuelle Entwicklung
des kommerziellen Umfelds zeigt, dass es zunehmend wichtiger wird, Assets auf unserer
Seite flexibler zu entwerfen und auf Ihrer
Seite effizienter und vielfältiger zu nutzen als
bisher.
Wir reagieren auf diese Herausforderung im Komponentendesign ebenso wie im
Systemdesign. Ein konkretes aktuelles Beispiel dafür ist das OSR-DS, unser neues Versandsystem: Im Laufe des vergangenen Jahres wurde uns klar, dass die Veränderungen
der Prozesse – speziell im pharmazeutischen
Großhandel – eine Flexibilisierung im Versandbereich erfordern, also die Bereitstellung
hoher Sortierleistungen und wesentlich vergrößerter Kapazitäten. Was daraufhin folgte,
war die Umsetzung einer Anforderung in eine
Produktidee und anschließend in ein Produkt
und schließlich auch noch in ein konkretes
Projekt, und das in weniger als einem Jahr.
So erwarten wir Mitte dieses Jahres ein
modulares Gerät, das bis zu 3 000 Behälter
pro Stunde sortieren kann und das bei einer Kapazität von 5 000 Behältern und mehr.
Die rasche und effiziente Umsetzung dieses
Vorhabens ist übrigens gleichzeitig die erste
große Bewährungsprobe für unsere neu gestalteten Entwicklungsprozesse, die Produkte
aus Anwendersicht sehen und begreifen.
Das Wichtigste fehlt noch: Möglich gemacht wurde dies nicht zuletzt durch einen
wesentlichen Leser dieser Zeilen – ich meine Sie, werter Kunde, der dieses System als
Erster noch im heurigen Sommer in Betrieb
nehmen wird. Und darauf sind wir auch ein
wenig stolz.
Rarely is the importance of the networks
which we build together – you as facility operator, and we as creators of order processing
systems – so clear as with the development
of new products. Current trends in the commercial environment point to the increasing
importance from our side to design assets
with more flexibility, and from your side to
use them with more efficiency and versatility
than ever before.
We have responded to these challenges in
the design of our components as well as in
the design of our systems. One recent concrete example of this is the OSR-DS, our new
dispatch system: in the course of the past
year it became clear to us that the changes
in processes – especially in pharmaceutical
wholesaling – required increasing flexibility
in dispatch, meaning higher sorter performance and significantly enlarged capacities.
What followed was the transformation of a
demand into a product idea, then into a product and in the end, into a concrete project, all
within less than a year’s time.
For midyear we are anticipating a modular
device that can sort up to 3,000 containers
per hour and has a capacity of more than
5,000 containers. The rapid and efficient realization of this project is simultaneously the
first big practical test for our newly mapped
out development processes: to see and understand the products from the user’s point
of view.
The most important thing is still missing.
Last but not least, this was all made possible by an important reader of this column
– meaning you, valued customer – who will
be the first to put this system into operation
this coming summer. In this we do pride ourselves a little.

Die Kooperative HEFAGRA ist
ein Verbund von 700 Apotheken, den sog. „Socios“, in der
spanischen Provinz Andalusien.
Vom Firmensitz in Granada aus
beliefert Hefagra seine Kunden mit Produkten des gesamten Gesundheitsbereichs. Das
Unternehmen beschäftigt rund

The cooperative HEFAGRA is a
trade association of 700 pharmacies in the province of Andalusia, Spain. Hefagra supplies
its customers with products from
the entire range of the healthcare sector from the headquarters in Granada. The company
has approx. 100 employees
and an annual turnover of 190

COFEX, ein langjähriger Kunde in Cáceres
in der spanischen Region Extremadura, hat
seinen Versandbereich neu organisiert und
mit dem weltweit ersten Versandsortierregal OSR-DS neueste KNAPP Technologie
für den Warenausgangsbereich installiert.
Das regionale pharmazeutische Distributionszentrum betreut 320 Apotheken in einem
Umkreis von 200 Kilometern und liefert
pro Tag 45 000 Einheiten aus. Wir sind

COFEX a long-time customer in Cáceres,
province of the Spanish autonomous community Extremadura, has reorganised its
dispatch area and installed the world’s first
dispatch sorting rack OSR-DS, the latest
KNAPP technology for goods-out areas.
The pharmaceutical distribution centre
serves 320 pharmacies within an area of
200 kilometres, supplying some 45,000 delivery units every day. We are proud of the

des Clas Ohlson Distributionszentrums ein.
Damit entsteht nicht nur das höchste und
größte Distributionszentrum Schwedens,
sondern auch das erste Silohochregallager. Ebenfalls integriert sind automatische
Regalbediengeräte für Palettenhandling.
Aufgrund der wirtschaftlicheren vertikalen
Lagerung wird das Palettenhochregallager
von Clas Ohlson mit einer Höhe von 43,5
Metern die meisten Kirchen in der Umgebung überragen.

includes construction of the first clad rack
building and of the highest and largest
distribution centre in Sweden, which will

warehouse, with its efficient and extremely
economic vertical storage structure, will
tower over most of the churches in the

Logistik-Innovationspreis. Die technische
Lösung glänzt insbesondere durch das
Zusammenspiel zwischen einem Hochregallager mit zwei Kränen und 35 000 Stellplätzen und einem OSR32 System, dirigiert
vom Warehouse Management System

der Ware zwischen dem Kransystem und

The Estonian pharmaceutical wholesaler
Magnum Logistics was granted the official
Estonian award for innovation in logistics
for its new pharmaceutical warehouse in
Tallinn. The technical solution shines with
the interplay between a high-bay racking
system, its two stacker cranes and 35,000
storage locations and an OSR32 system,
guided by the warehouse management
system KiSoft WMS. The automatic interchange of goods between the stacker crane
system and the OSR ensures that products
are stored in the ideal location and avoids
time-consuming manual relocation.

n order to increase performance and be
well prepared for future growth, PBS
Logitek Deutschland has started with the

Between five existing stacker crane systems, KNAPP installed two rack lines of
the highly dynamic shuttle system OSR32

von Wareneingang bis Versand) garantiert
eine Vergleichbarkeit der ermittelten Key
Performance Indikatoren (KPI) auch außerhalb des eigenen Unternehmens. Die Echtzeitvisualisierung bietet darüber hinaus
eine Darstellung ausgewählter KPI direkt
im Lagerlayout. Über das Layout gelegt
sind Auffälligkeiten oder sich ankündigende Abweichungen noch eindeutiger
und schneller erkennbar. Mit dem Cockpit
kann schließlich jeder Kunde seine individuellen Top-KPI in gewünschter Form
anordnen und sichtbar machen. Zusätzlich
stehen die Ansichten auch auf mobilen
Geräten mit Web-Browser (z.B. BlackBerry
oder iPhone) zur Verfügung.
Die Transparenz über alle Prozesse, die
proaktive Vermeidung von Abweichungen
im Daily-Business sowie der sekundenaktuelle Status des Lagers in-house aber
auch unterwegs machen KiSoft MIS von

ontinuous data collection in the background, evaluation and prognosis enable KiSoft MIS to provide information at
any time regarding the status and progression of the warehouse. This makes it possible for the management to monitor performance online, and to react quickly to
any discrepancies. Using projection based
on historical data and business process
values set by the user, the system can give
warning in a timely fashion, therefore actively preventing problems.
With performance indicator reporting, a

visualization of the warehouse in realtime and a Cockpit, KiSoft MIS has three
interdependent visualization instruments.
About 100 performance indicators from
the various warehouse processes are
standardly available in reporting. The observance of the recommendations from
VDI Norm 4490 (Operational logistics key
figures from goods receiving to dispatch)
guarantees comparability of the determined key performance indicators (KPI)
even outside of the company. Moreover,
the real-time visualization offers a display
of the selected KPI directly in the warehouse layout. Seen in conjunction with the
layout, anomalies or signs of undesirable
performance trends can be recognized even
more distinctly and quickly. With Cockpit,
each customer can devise and view his
own individual top KPI in the desired format. Additionally the views are available
on mobile units with a web browser (i.e.
BlackBerry or iPhone).
The transparency of all the processes, the
active prevention of discrepancies in daily
business, as well as the up-to-the-second
status of the warehouse both in-house
and on the go makes the KiSoft MIS from
KNAPP one of the essential instruments

Provinz Andalusien. Vom Firmensitz in Granada aus beliefert Hefagra seine
Kunden mit Produkten des gesamten Gesundheitsbereichs.
Das Unternehmen beschäftigt rund 100 Mitarbeiter und erwirtschaftet einen Jahresumsatz von ca. 190 Millionen Euro.

Behälterhochregallager
Das Hochregallager wurde mit einem
Smart-Storage-System realisiert. Die Bedienung der Stellplätze erfolgt über drei
Regalbediengeräte, die neben der Ein- und
Auslagerung auch den Warennachschub
und die systeminterne Reorganisation
übernehmen. Pro Fahrt werden bis zu zwei
Behälter gleichzeitig bearbeitet, wobei die
Software wegoptimierte Ein- und Auslagerungsabläufe sicherstellt.
Durch die zeitliche Trennung von Wareneinlagerung und Kommissionierung werden die Regalbediengeräte zu jeder Tageszeit optimal genutzt. Die Bremsenergie der
Regalbediengeräte wird in das öffentliche
Stromnetz rückgespeist, wodurch sich weitere wirtschaftliche Vorteile ergeben.
Kommissionierung
Schnell- und Mitteldreher werden mit den
bewährten Automaten kommissioniert.
Regalbediengeräte sorgen für die automatische Nachfüllung der Automatkanäle.
Der Nachschub für die Durchlaufregale
erfolgt RF-geführt.

Beim MPS werden mittels RF-Terminals
manuell gesammelte Teilaufträge automatisch zusammengeführt. Um den hohen
Durchsatzanforderungen gerecht zu werden, wird dieses System im patentierten
„dynamischen Zonenmodus“ betrieben.
Damit wird der Personaleinsatz auslastungsoptimiert gesteuert. Langsamdreher
werden mit dem TD-Lean automatisiert.
Durch die platzsparende und kostengünstige automatische Kommissionierung
konnte KNAPP für Hefagra eine optimale
Lösung für deren Generika-Sortiment finden.
In den manuellen Stationen erfolgt die
Kommissionierung mit Radio-FrequencyTerminals aus Durchlaufregalen. Die Mit-

arbeiter erhalten Informationen über Funk,
die vor Ort am Handterminal angezeigt
werden. Die Bewegungsabläufe der Mitarbeiter laufen dabei völlig ergonomisch und
wegoptimiert ab.
Ware-zum-Mann Prinzip
Das OSR-Prinzip erlaubt in überaus ergonomischer und effizienter Weise eine extrem hohe Kommissionierleistung.
Im Vergleich zu Regalbediengeräten ist
die bewegte Masse der OSR-Shuttles wesentlich geringer, was bei einer deutlich
höheren Behälterbereitstellung einen weit
geringeren Energieverbrauch und dadurch
eine wirtschaftlichere Kommissionierung
ermöglicht.
Pick-to-Belt
Extrem schnelldrehende Artikel und Produkte, welche sich nicht für eine Auslieferung in Behältern eignen, werden mittels
RF direkt aus dem Palettenlager bzw. den
Durchlaufregalen kommissioniert, mit Versandlabel versehen und über Pick-to-Belt
in den Versandbereich gebracht.
Warenausgang
Die fertig kommissionierten Behälter werden vollautomatisch adressiert, mit Versanddokumenten versehen, verschlossen,
verschnürt, in den Versandbereich ausgesteuert und nach Routen sortiert. Die Intervalle zwischen den Touren konnten so um
30% verringert werden.

The cooperative HEFAGRA is a trade association of 700 pharmacies in the
province of Andalusia, Spain. Hefagra supplies its customers with products from
the entire range of the health-care sector from the headquarters in Granada. The
company has approx. 100 employees and an annual turnover of 190 million
euros.

KiSoft WMS
The high-performance warehouse management system KiSoft WMS constitutes
the core of the logistics solution. With
the visualisation software package KiSoft
i-POINT, Hefagra can switch on and off,
monitor and operate the entire warehouse
as well as individual areas.
Goods-in area
During the goods-in process, expiry dates
and lot IDs are registered in the WMS and
each product is automatically allocated a

storage location after the goods have been
checked and weighed. Registration of the
lot ID ensures complete traceability of all
pharmaceuticals from producer to consumer.
High-bay racking system for containers
The high-bay racking system was realised
by a Smart-Storage-System. The storage
locations are operated via three stacker
cranes which are responsible for storage
and retrieval, replenishment of products
and reorganisation within the system. Up
to two containers at a time can be transported in one run and the software ensures route-optimised storage and retrieval
processes. The regenerative braking system
of the stacker cranes feeds power into the
public supply network, thus ensuring a
number of economic benefits.
Order processing
Fast and medium moving products are
processed with the oft proven KNAPP autopickers. Stacker cranes automatically
provide replenishment to autopicker channels. The replenishment of the flow rack
is guided via radiofrequency. For the MPS,
partial orders collected manually using RF
terminals are, similar to an autopicker, automatically merged. In order to meet the
high throughput requirements, the system
is operated in the patented „dynamic zone
mode“, which ensures that the staff-work
allocation is optimised. Slow-moving products are automated with the TD-Lean. With
the space-saving and cost-efficient automatic order processing of TD-Lean KNAPP
was able to offer Hefagra an ideal solution for its range of generic drugs. In the
manual stations products are picked from
the flow rack using RF terminals. The staff
receives information via radio frequency,
which is displayed on the hand-held terminal. All movements within the facility are
completely ergonomic and are guided over
the shortest routes.
Goods-to-man picking
The OSR principle makes it possible to
achieve an especially high picking performance in the most ergonomic and efficient way. In comparison to conventional
stacker cranes, the moving mass of the
OSR shuttles is significantly lower, thus
leading to a considerably higher supply
of containers with lower energy consumption, and allowing more profitable order
processing.
Pick-to-Belt
Extremely fast-moving products and products which cannot be supplied in containers are picked directly from the pallet storage area or flow racks via radiofrequency.
The shipping labels are then attached and
the products transported to the dispatch
area on the Pick-to-Belt system.
Goods-out area
The completed containers are automatically addressed, given shipping documents,
sealed, strapped, diverted to the dispatch
area and sorted according to route. The
intervals between routes are thus reduced
by 30 percent.

KiSoft AUTOMOVE – mit fahrerlosem Transportsystem-Support (FTS) effektiver kommissionieren
Bei KiSoft Automove handelt es sich um den
Einsatz von FTS für Transport- und Kommissionieraufgaben. Primär unterstützt das FTS
die mit dem Kommissionierprozess verbundenen Transporte, die nun vollautomatisch
durchgeführt werden. Mit dem Vorteil, dass
der Picker, der ansonsten noch seinen mitgeführten elektrischen Handhubwagen bedienen

Bei KNAPP CASE handelt es sich um ein
vollautomatisches Durchlaufregalsystem, das
seinen Nachschub, je nach Mengenanforderungen, aus einem vollautomatischen Lager
oder auch aus manuellen Lagern bezieht. Je
nach Mengenanforderungen sind beliebig
viele Durchlaufregalkanäle und mehrere übereinander angeordnete Ebenen möglich.

KiSoft AUTOMOVE – effective picking with
the driverless transport system (FTS)
KiSoft AUTOMOVE is used when applying FTS
for transport and picking duties. Primarily,
the FTS supports the transport associated with
the picking process, which is now carried out
fully automatically. The advantage is that
the operator, who used to be occupied with
the electric pallet jack, now has both hands
free for picking duties, and can operate more
efficiently.
KNAPP CASE – the container autopicker
with the highest throughput
KNAPP CASE is a fully automatic flow rack
system, which receives its replenishment
products from a fully automated warehouse or,
depending on the amount required, from the
manual warehouse. According to the amounts
required, any number of flow rack channels
and several stacked levels are possible.

In mid-December, 2008, CIBA VISION held
their annual employee/supplier recognition
luncheon at their worldwide headquarters located in Duluth, Georgia. At this luncheon,
KNAPP Logistics Automation, Inc. was recognized as CIBA’s premier supplier with the
presentation of the 2008 Outstanding Performance Award. “KNAPP met or exceeded our
standards for a “Partner for Performance” – superior quality product, flawless execution of installation, long term reliability and high return
on investment,“ stated David Cerny, Head, US
Logistics for CIBA VISION. CIBA VISION, a global leader in the research,
development and manufacturing of contact
lenses and lens care products, began their relationship with KNAPP in 2004 with the commissioning of an engineering study detailing
a two phase plan for design and installation
of a state-of-the-art picking solution for their
Duluth, GA distribution center. Phase 1 of the
plan consisted of Streamline transport conve-
yor with destacking equipment, A-Frame SDA with over 1,500 channels, in-line scales and
carton closer, all controlled by a KNAPP KiSoft
WCS Klass-X warehouse control system with
an i-POINT visualization package. This portion
of the new system was integrated with CIBA VISION’s existing horizontal carousel system
and V-frame (an old style inverted A-frame) and
was completed in 2005.
Phase two of CIBA VISION’s long term plan as
set forth in KNAPP’s engineering study was the
installation of an OSR15 that would replace
the carousel system that spanned two floors
of CIBA’s facility. The OSR15 installation was
successfully completed in 2008 and has not
only dramatically decreased the amount of
floor space required for slower moving items,
it significantly reduced overhead costs while
increasing productivity. CIBA operators routinely pick in excess of 900 lines per hour at
each of the OSR’s four workstations.

nsere Niederlassung in Großbritannien
wurde 1997 von Mike Cogger gegründet.
Damals war er der einzige Mitarbeiter. Die erfolgreiche Entwicklung, die das Unternehmen
zu dem gemacht hat, was es heute ist, haben
wir in erster Linie Mikes Einsatz, Engagement
und Talent zu verdanken. Im März wird Mike
in Pension gehen. Es freut uns jedoch, dass er
sein Engagement für KNAPP UK als Business
Development Director auf Teilzeitbasis zumindest noch ein Jahr fortsetzen wird.
Craig Rollason kam als neuer Sales- und
Marketingleiter ins Unternehmen. Er wird
das UK Team koordinieren und zeichnet für
unsere Verkaufs- und Marketingstrategie verantwortlich. Im März wird Steve Knights als
Business Development Manager das Team
für Integrated Projects erweitern. Auch im
Bereich des Kundendienstes hat sich im vergangenen Jahr viel getan. Im Sommer übernahm Ebb Kretschmer die Leitung des Customer Service.
Mit einem Auftragsvolumen von fast 13 Mio.
Euro bescherte uns die Cooperative Pharmacy den bei weitem größten Auftrag. Das Jahr
2008 ist mit einem hohen Auftragsniveau
ausgeklungen, wobei der Pharma Großhändler Colorama mit Sitz in London wesentlichen Anteil daran hatte. Im vergangenen
Jahr konnten wir auch Aufträge von Phoenix Healthcare, Sangers/Nordirland, United
Drug/Irland, British Gas (Erweiterung), Avon
Cosmetics, Ocado, Lloyds Pharmacy sowie
Coopervision an Land ziehen.

UK started in 1997 when Mike Cogger
founded the company and was its sole
employee. The successful evolution into what
the company is now is due in a massive way
to Mike‘s dedication, commitment and talent.
Mike will retire in March but we are delighted
that he has agreed to continue to work with
us, on a part time basis, in the role of Business Development Director for at least a further year.
Craig Rollason has just joined as Head of
Sales and Marketing. He will be responsible
for coordinating and managing the team and
our sales and marketing strategy. In March
Steve Knights will join us as Business Development Manager, Integrated Projects. Last
year was eventful in our Customer Service
business as well. Ebb Kretschmer took over
the reins as “Head of Customer Service” last
summer.
The largest order by far was from The Cooperative Pharmacy. The year finished on a
high note with an order from Colorama, the
Pharmaceutical Wholesaler based in London.
We also took orders last year from Phoenix
Healthcare, Sangers/Northern Ireland, United
Drug/Ireland, British Gas (extension), Avon
Cosmetics, Ocado, Lloyds Pharmacy and
Coopervision.

Im November 2008 realisierte
das Customer Service bei Tabacon in Ronneburg eine Anlagenoptimierung im laufenden
Betrieb. Hauptaugenmerk wurde auf die Effizienzsteigerung
in der Auftragsabwicklung gelegt, welche durch Optimierung
der Mechanik und Software erreicht wird. Im Zuge dieses Projektes wurde auch der bestehende Tabakautomat modernisiert,
wodurch noch schneller und
wirtschaftlicher gearbeitet werden kann. Das Projektergebnis
wurde von Tabacon sehr positiv
bewertet.

change on very short notice. A
constantly changing range of
products and an ever-growing
variety have made it increasingly important to quickly
adapt to new situations.
KNAPP has always supported
its customers by being alert for
possibilities to improve a warehouse, thus continuously working on new solutions together
with the customer.
In November 2008, the Customer Service implemented a
system optimization for Tabacon in Ronneburg, Germany
during on-going operation. The
main focus was to increase efficiency in order processing
by optimizing the mechanical
components and the software.
In the course of this project, the
existing tobacco autopicker was
modernised thus allowing even

Vierundsechzig junge Paare eröffnen mit einer eigens einstudierten Polonaise die festliche Opernredoute. Erst dann heißt es: Sixty-four young couples open the ball with a polonaise, specially
rehearsed for the festive Graz Opernredoute. Only then with the
words
um 11. Mal verwandelt sich heuer die Grazer Oper für eine
Nacht in einen Ballsaal. Dieses Highlight des gesellschaftlichen Lebens lassen sich Vertreter aus Wirtschaft, Medien, Kultur
und Politik nicht entgehen. Die weiblichen Gäste werden mit einer
Damenspende, einem sinnlichen Duft im zierlichen Flakon auf das
Ballereignis des Jahres eingestimmt.

und das Sigi Feigl Orchester decken alle denkbaren Musikrichtungen ab. In der Piano Bar spielt ein Jazzmusiker Standards, in
einer weiteren Bar hält der Entertainer Franco Andolfo die Ballbesucher bei Laune. Auf der Studiobühne gibt DJ Wolf den Discobesuchern den Rhythmus vor.
