Dear Members, Friends, Colleagues and Guests,
This December 2016, we are coming to Chennai, the historical and capital city of state of Tamilnadu. This city is
not only witness to inception of Neurological Society of India but having great impact on the growth of Neuro
Science and its expansion. You name a thing in Neurological care, the roots become visible in Tamilnadu. It is
very much proud moment for us to assemble in the city of Chennai erstwhile Madras. This is also cultural
capital of Southern India. It keeps the nation’s conscience wrapped in Tamil Heritage. From Dec 15th to 18th
Dec 2016 we all will be privileged to experience a 4 day extravanga in this city.
The Scientific programme is enriched with the presence of Luminaries in the field of Neuro Sciences from India
and abroad. We have distinguished Orators, Guest speakers from across the globe from east to west, to far
west. The Society of British Neurological Surgeons is our guest society this year. You will all have the
opportunity to this unique synthesis of Scientific programme all through the meeting. The high impact CME,
Orations, Special lecture, Topic based morning symposia, Video Sessions, Pre conference workshop and
Simulation courses are the important highlights. Our flagship programme of Award papers in platform
presentation and poster category is as usual on board. We are committed to provide a wider platform for
maximum members to be the part of the rich and contemporary scientific deliberations. Our Chairman
Scientific Committee, Dr Deepu Banerjee’s niche in Scientific Programme will be distinctly visible. The incisive
and watchful Secretary Dr V P Singh will lead the show. Above all the large hearted Dr K Sridhar, Organizing
Secretary, NSICON2016 with his enthusiastic team is committed to raise the bar for coming NSICONs.

Vannakkam and Greetings from Chennai Neuro Association !!
On behalf of the Organising committee of the NSICON 2016 at Chennai it is my privilege to welcome you all
to this historic and wonderful city. December is the best time of the year to come to Chennai , with excellent
weather, and the famous music and art season.
The NSI has its origins in Chennai and it is an honour for us to host the 65th Annual Conference here. This
year the conference will be hosting the Society of British Neurological Surgeons and will also be associated
with the 37th Annual meeting of the Society of Indian Neuro Nurses.
The scientific committee, headed by the President elect Dr Deepu Banerji, is sure to have an exciting
scientific programme and CME for you. Pre-conference workshops are planned for different aspects of
neuroscience from Live Operative Workshops to Neuro Critical Care to Intraoperative Electrophysiology.
The venue of the conference, the ITC Grand Chola, is iconic in its architecture and design. Named after the
great Chola Dynasty, you will experience luxury right in the centre of the city close to the airport, shopping
centres and other hotels.

Simulation in 4 areas of neurosurgical expertise:
1. Micro-Suturing Simulation :
A. Dural Closure: synthetic model with 4-0& 5-0 suture for CSF sealing closure.
B. Micro-vascular Suturing: Suturing of synthetic vessels under high magnification with 9-0 &10-0
sutures.
2. Neuro-Endoscope Simulation
A. Endo-trainer module - physical simulator to train dexterity, eye-hand coordination, instrumenttissue manipulation: Hands-on experience with neuro-endoscopes (0°, 30° and 45° scopes)
B. Ventricular Endoscopy module - physical simulator to train third ventriculostomy.
3. High Speed Drilling Simulation
Drilling practice on curved and flat bones with neurovascular simulation.
Practice burr-holes and straight lines in a pre- defined pattern with dura preservation.
4. Spine Instrumentation Simulation Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF)

Improving your practice by learning techniques used in critical care and close interaction with experts.
Identify indications for different modalities of mechanical ventilation, Optimize diagnosis of airway
problems and recognize best techniques for management.
·Intracranial Pressure monitor placement and interpretation
·Techniques, uses and limitations of microdialysis and brain oxygen monitoring
·Recognize the utility of transcranial Doppler and ultrasound.

This workshop on Intra-operative Monitoring trains the delegates on the different aspects of
Electrophysiological Neuro-monitoring possible in the Operation Theatres. This workshop will help
Neurologists help their Neurosurgical colleagues in the OT. It will also help Neurosurgeons understand
the nuances of Electrophysiological monitoring in the OT and how to maximally utilize them.

Comprehensive course is proposed to provide young Neurosurgeons, Neurologists and residents, who
are unsure of their interest in Cerebrovascular /Endovascular Neurosurgery an overview of the basics
and current status of the field and the future prospects. It will provide an opportunity to use Hands on
Simulators and Flow Models to better understand the technical aspects of endovascular neurosurgery
with instruction in basic and advanced endovascular techniques.
Live Endovascular cases moderated and performed by eminent faculty in the field to understand all the
essential technical details of these procedures

Members will have to login into the member account at the NSI website to submit the abstracts.
All presenters must register for the conference.
Abstracts can be submitted in one of the following formats:
Please note that one presenter can only submit one abstract. The second abstract will only be considered if one
abstract in the History of Neurosciences or Posters Category.
For non-members and those who are desirous to be members and wishing to submit abstracts, the
provision of guest login is active from 20th July 2016 as per rules depicted with guest login key.

Presentation. All abstracts for any form of presentation must follow the prescribed guidelines and the
paper must be submitted in the prescribed format mentioned on the website only. Abstracts not
following these guidelines will be rejected

General Instructions:
• All abstracts must be the original, unpublished work of the authors, with all listed authors having
significant contribution to the completion of the work.
• The paper should not have been presented in any conference earlier.
• Submission of an abstract constitutes the author's commitment to present the abstract if accepted
and in the session as assigned by the Scientific committee.
• All expenses associated with the preparation and presentation of the abstracts is the responsibility
of the author/presenter.
• Abstracts of the accepted papers will be printed in the abstract book as received. Hence authors
must ensure error free text.
• For abstracts submitted under any Prize Paper category, copy of the full paper has to be submitted
to the Central Office at [email protected] by 31st July 2016.
• Follow all the NSI guidelines for prize papers which can be downloaded from the NSI Bye-laws on
the NSI website www.neurosocietyindia.org
• Members who fail to present a paper after acceptance without prior intimation will be debarred
from presentation for one year.
All papers will be sent to five referees for evaluation. After peer review the paper may be shifted from
one presentation type to another.The Scientific Committee will decide the final allocation of the paper
to a particular category.
Deadline:
• The last date for submission of all abstracts is 31st July 2016.
• Full Text for abstracts submitted under prize category must reach the Central Office at
[email protected] before July 31st.
Notification of acceptance or rejection of the abstracts and further details on presentation will be
mailed to the corresponding author in September 2016.

The Society of Indian Neuroscience Nurses (SINN) is the first professional organisation for
specialised Indian neuronurses dedicated to the development and promotion of neuroscience nursing
in India.
Mission
• To promote high standard of care in Neurological and Neurosurgical Nursing in Indian settings.
• To exchange views and disseminate knowledge and practice in the field of neuroscience nursing across India.

Chennai the metro city of the South is the Capital of Tamilnadu. It is a major Cultural, economic and educational
centre. It is also called as the Detroit of India due to the presence of formidable automobile giants. National
Geographic ranked Chennai as world's 2nd best food city and Chennai was the only Indian city to feature in the list.
Yoga on the Beach
Marina Beach (6 30 am to 8 am): A drive down marina beach is a must do when in
Chennai. It’s the world’s second longest urban beach. Home to many memorials of past
leaders of the state and also has wide ranging gamut of flora and fauna. An added
attraction is an early morning session of yoga on the beach.
Half Day tour of Chennai:
Santhome Basilica: Quite close to Marina beach an architectural beauty and built by
Portuguese explorers over the tomb of St. Thomas an apostle of Jesus Christ. As
Chennai is known for its diversity the basilica attracts many non Christian visitors too.
Guindy National Park: One of the few national parks to be located inside the city. It is
home to a wide variety of blackbucks, spotted deer, jackals, snakes, geckos, tortoises
and over 130 species of birds,
Kapaleeswarar Temple: An iconic landmark of Chennai, this temple is one of the
oldest in the city dedicated to Lord Siva. The temple has numerous shrines, with those
of Kapaleeswarar and Karpagambal being the most prominent.
St. Thomas Mount: A small hillock located in Chennai where an apostle of Jesus Christ
St. Thomas is said to have attained martyrdom.

T.Nagar: A shopper’s paradise, known for its plethora of Saree and gold retailers. A few recommended stores
would be Nalli’s, Kumaran’s & Sundari Silks. Which not only have sarees and clothes but also a nice range of
handicrafts and home décor items.
KANCHIPURAM DAY TRIP
The Golden town of Kancheepuram is one of the seven sacred cities in India. Notable
among its many temples is the imposing Ekambareswarar Temple, a Saivaite Shrine,
where Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of 'Prithvi' (earth). Dedicated to goddess
Parvathi is the Sri Kamakshi Amman Temple.
Another notable temple to visit is the famous Varadaraja Perumal Temple. Kancheepuram is famous for its hand
woven silks and the timeless appeal of its vibrantly coloured saris, making them prized possessions.
PONDICHERRY DAY TRIP
Puducherry, formerly known as Pondicherry is a Union Territory of India. It was
formed out of four exclaves of former French India namely Puducherry, Karaikal,
Yanam and Mahe. It is named after the largest district Puducherry

Visit Mahabalipuram: Globally known for its ancient monuments, caves and the
famous shore temple which is now a world heritage site, Mahabalipuram is a
photographer’s dream location. Mahabalipuram was the second capital of the Pallava
kings of Kancheepuram.
TIRUPATI DAY TRIP
Tirupati is considered one of the holiest pilgrimage sites because of the Thirumala Venkateswara Temple. The
thirumala hills are part of the Seshachalam Hills range. The hills comprise of seven peaks representing the seven
heads of adisesha. The temple lies on the seventh peak known as Venkatadri.
