Biografie

PAWEL MENDREK
is an visual artist work primarily in various technique with collage elements and also
focusing on drawing, photography and site-specific project. This work resulted with such
commision projects as Ariadne (2012-13) for Kunstraum B, Kiel, Germany and RAG
Factory in London, Blogosphere (2012) for Strefa A Gallery in Cracow, Sampling Spaces
(2009-15) for Flying Gallery Fundation in Warsaw and as well as the site specific utopian
reconstruction reaserch project realized in cooperation with Ewa Zasada called from now
till today for MitOst Fundation from Berlin and Independent art assotiation Oberliht from
Chinsinau (2011-2014). In 2012 Pawel and Ewa together with the third artist Malgorzata
Szandala created artist collective Travel Agency. The topic of the long time, nomadic art
project is composed of several threads revolving around the concept of strangeness and
alienation, belonging to a place, emigration, embroiled identity. This work resulted with
such curatorial projects like mary and margareth for Kronika Gallery, Bytom, Poland
(2013), intercity for Action Gallery, Warsaw (2014) and paradise for Loft 8 Gallery (2015).
Pawel has exhibited nationally and internationally including group shows at Museum of
Applied Arts Vienna, Kunstlerhaus Vienna, Museum of Art, Taiwan, Sienna Art Institute
in Italy, Kronika Gallery Bytom, BWA Gallery in Cracow and Bielsko-Biala, Poland and as
well in Mill&Short Gallery in San Francisco and as well he works as art project
coordinator for such intitutions like: Chelsea College of Arts in Londyn,
Oberliht/Independet Art Association from Chinsinau, MitOst Fundation, Berlin and
Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice.
Currently based in Vienna, lectuer at Faculty of Intermedia and Stage Design at the
Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice.
