These regulations are to be read in conjunction with the General Competition Rules (GCR’s) and Standing
Supplementary Regulations (SSR’s) of Motorsport South Africa (MSA).
These regulations must be read and understood by all competitors.

No fundamental rule changes will be made during the 2013 racing year but proposals may be put forward for
2014.
The NRSC has the final decision on all technical matters.
1.
General – All Classes
1.1
Validity of These Regulations
These regulations will apply for the calendar year of 2013. The 2013 Motorsport Calendar is available from
MSA on request and gives details of the championship events.
1.2
Controllers of the Championship
The controllers of the championship shall be the MSA Northern Regions Motorsport Committee. MSA may
delegate the normal administration of the series to an approved body, at its sole discretion.
1.3
Eligibility of Competitors
1.3.1
Riders shall be eligible to compete in the relevant class as per the required minimum age specified
under each Class - Eligibility of Riders.
1.3.2
The championships are open to all riders who hold current valid MSA competition licenses for
Motorcycle Circuit Racing appropriate to the status of the class being entered.
1.3.3
ONE EVENT LICENCES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTABLE FOR ANY CLASS, unless specifically permitted to the
contrary.
1.3.4
In respect of the senior classes, riders that have no regional racing experience who wish to compete
in the Supersport, Botts or Unlimited Superbike classes, shall be required to first compete in the
Formula Xtreme or Breakfast Run classes and achieve lap times within 110% of the fastest rider in the
class they wish to participate in before moving to the chosen regional class.
1.4
Eligibility of Motorcycles
The championship is open to all motorcycles complying with the regulations and specifications as listed below.
1.5
Declaration of Champions
1.5.1
The MSA Northern Regions Motorsport Committee, at its sole discretion, shall declare the winners of
the various championship classes.
1.5.2
Aim of the Championship: To declare a Northern Regions Motorsport Champion in each of the
following classes:
Moto 3 (GP125)
150 Cup
250 Cup
600cc Supersport
Unlimited SBK
Battle of the Twins
Masters Class
Note:
Riders in the above classes require a minimum of a Regional license.
Additionally, the following Club classes shall be run:

Riders in the above classes require a Club license.
1.5.3
Should fewer than 50%, plus one, of the scheduled events making up the championship be run and
scored, no champion will be declared in the relevant classes. Refer to GCR 234 (ii).
1.5.4
There shall be no fewer than ten (10) starters per class for that class to score towards the
championship. To be classified as a starter a competitor must participate in at least one official
practice session, as per the SR’s for the event, and/or participate in the race/event itself. Refer to
GCR 230/266.
1.5.5
Any class that is unable to provide 10 starters per event for 3 events may be cancelled at the
discretion of the NRSC.

Overall positions for the day will be determined on the basis of cumulative points scored for the various heats.
A tie in points will be resolved in favour of the competitor with the greater number of first positions, failing
this seconds, thirds, etc. If a tie still remains, it will be resolved in favour of the competitor with the best
finishing position in the final race/heat on the day.
Race Distance
1.7.1
Each championship class will run a minimum 20 minutes total race time at each race meeting, to be
run over one, two or three races/heats.
1.7.2
Notwithstanding the above, if for reasons of force majeure, it is not possible for all the races
originally scheduled to take place at a meeting, refer to the provisions of GCR 273.
Fuel
1.8.1
Unless specifically permitted to the contrary (see point 1.8.2 below), the only fuel permitted to be
used is normal pump fuel available to the general public through retail filling stations - Refer to GCR
240 (MSA Handbook – General Competition Rules) & SSR 67 (MSA Handbook – Circuit Racing).
1.8.2
The BOTTS and Moto 3 classes shall be permitted to use unleaded 98 octane racing fuel as per the
MSA specifications, subject to it being available at the respective circuits to all competitors in these
classes and further subject to the race fuel being transported and stored at each meeting as per legal
requirements.
1.8.3
Competitors are not allowed to transport fuel, other than in the fuel tank of the competition
motorcycle, unless a legal permit has been obtained from the relevant authorities.
1.8.4
Notwithstanding any of the above provisions, the Technical Consultant (acting in conjunction with the
Clerk of the Course) shall have the right to impose the usage of control fuel. Where no control racing
fuel is available, then normal pump fuel may be used as a control fuel, at the discretion of the TC. Any
competitor refusing to use control fuel when so requested will be excluded from the
results/precluded from further participation in the event concerned.
Separation of Ties in Championship
1.9.1
A tie at the end of the season will be resolved in favour of the competitor having the greater number
of heat wins.
1.9.2
If the tie is not so resolved then the greater number of second positions will count, failing this third
positions and so on.
1.9.3
If a winner can still not be declared in this manner the MSA Northern Regions Motorsport Committee
shall declare the winner on such basis as it deems appropriate.
Competition Numbers
1.10.1 Competition numbers for all classes will be those as issued by Motorsport S.A (Head Office) only. All
number requests to be sent to Maria Buys via fax to 086 610 4616 or email to

1.10.2 The number application form can be found on the Northern Regions Racing website.
1.10.3 Numbers 1 to 10 in each class are reserved exclusively for the preceding year’s 1st through 10th
championship finishers. Any of these numbers that are not taken up will not be re-allocated and will
remain unused.
1.10.4 All other numbers shall be issued on a ‘first come first served’ basis following receipt of a written
application by MSA.
1.10.5 Numbers must comply with the following:
1.10.5.1
Only black numbers on a white background shall be permitted. For light-coloured
bodywork, there shall be a black line of a minimum 8mm thickness all around the
perimeter of the white number background.
1.10.5.2
The only font permitted shall be Arial (Bold).
1.10.5.3
The minimum permitted sizes for all numbers are: Minimum height 120 mm; Minimum
width 80 mm; Minimum stroke 25 mm.

The allocated number for the rider must appear at least three (3) times on the machine, visible from
the front and both sides.
1.10.7 The number on the front may be affixed only once, either in the centre of the fairing or to the side on
which the timing officials are situated for the event in question.
1.10.8 The two side numbers must be located on the left and the right sides of the seat or the bottom rear
of the fairing if the numbers cannot fit on the seat/tailpiece.
1.10.9 In the case of a dispute concerning the legibility of numbers, the decision of the Technical Consultant
will be final.
1.10.10 Where applicable, it shall be compulsory for all competing motorcycles to carry series sponsors’
decals in the stipulated positions (refer GCR’s 246 and 247).
Scrutineering
1.11.1 Motorcycles must be presented for scrutiny in a clean race-worthy condition, together with approved
crash helmet and gloves, all in good condition.
1.11.2 No open-ended pipe in any way connected with the lubrication or cooling system, sump, catch tank
or other oil or water reservoir, is permitted. All such pipes must terminate in a plastic or metal
container of adequate capacity firmly secured to the motorcycle and acceptable to the scrutineers at
pre-race scrutiny. All such containers must be empty at the start of any race.
1.11.3 Gearbox and engine drain plugs and oil filter retaining bolts must be wire-locked. Canister-type oil
filter bodies must be clamped. In the event of the oil filter and drain plugs not being easily visible to
the scrutineer the lower fairing must be removed for inspection purposes.
1.11.4 At any time during an event, silencers may be checked.
1.11.5 No motorcycle may compete with ethylene glycol (anti-freeze) in the cooling system.
1.11.6 All competitors must purchase a scrutineering book from MSA and present it to the scrutineer at
every race. Failing to present this book shall result in a 30 second time penalty being applied.
1.11.7 Noise levels of each motorcycle must comply with MSA noise level regulations
1.11.8 Protective clothing as detailed below, in good condition and free from tears, holes or other defects
must be brought with to scrutineering.
1.11.9 Full face helmets of approved type, with Double D ring fastener, in sound condition and fitting
securely.
1.11.10 If goggles and/or spectacles are worn, they shall be of ‘non-splinter’ material.
1.11.11 Leather one-piece racing suit.
1.11.12 Boots affording adequate protection to feet and ankles.
1.11.13 Leather gloves.
Change of Components
1.12.1 A competitor may change any part/s on his/her motorcycle between heats.
1.12.2 Where a competitor wishes to change motorcycles between heats, he may do so provided:

The Clerk of the Course is advised of this intention at least 10 minutes prior to the start
of the next heat.
1.12.2.2
The motorcycle has been passed by the scrutineers.
1.12.2.3
The replacement motorcycle displays the same competition number as the original
motorcycle.
1.12.2.4
The competitor starts from the back of the grid, irrespective of his finishing position in
the previous heat.
Qualifying For Grid Positions
1.13.1 Grid positions for Race 1 shall be determined according to each competitor’s quickest time set in
Qualifying. Competitors who do not set a time in qualifying will start Race 1 from the back of the grid

Grid positions for Race 2 shall be determined according to each competitor’s second quickest lap
time set in qualifying. Competitors who do not set a second quickest lap time in qualifying will start
Race 2 from the back of the grid.
It is the competitor’s responsibility to know his/her grid position prior to forming up on the grid.
Delaying of the start due to indecision relating to grid positions shall render the competitor/s
concerned liable to be moved to the back of the grid or excluded from the race concerned, at the
discretion of the Clerk of the Course.

Where qualifying times have not been recorded for whatever reason, grid positions for Race 1 will be
as per championship points standings to date, and thereafter by race number. The grid positions for
Race 2 shall then be as per the finishing order of Race 1.
1.13.6 The starting grid will be arranged in a 4-4-4-4 configuration "in echelon". Each line will be offset.
There will be a distance of 9 meters between each row. See SSR 36.
Starting Procedure
1.14.1 Riders will be lined up in the pre-race paddock.
1.14.2 Access to the pre-race paddock will close 3 minutes before the start time of the race/heat. Any
competitor failing to enter the pre-race paddock before it closes will not be permitted to enter and
will have to start his/her race from the pit lane. Refer to SSR 38.
1.14.3 Competitors are to note that once the pit lane has closed and they commence a warm up lap/s they
are deemed to be under starter’s orders. Once riders come under starter’s orders, no-one other than
riders and officials are allowed on the starting grid.
1.14.4 Junior riders who need assistance on the starting grid will have to start at the back of the grid, subject
to approval from the COC.
1.14.5 After completing the sighting and warm up laps as indicated, riders are to form up on the starting grid
with engines running.
1.14.6 When the starter is satisfied that the starting grid is properly made up, he will display a 30-second
signal. The starting signal will be in accordance with SSR 38 - Motorcycles.
1.14.7 A competitor who jumps the start will be given a time penalty of 30 seconds. Refer SSR 38J.
Finishing Procedure
1.15.1 All competitors who complete 66% of the total race distance shall report to Parc fermé immediately
after the race.
1.15.2 No parents are allowed in Parc fermé after the race. Race Officials will conduct a debriefing session
with the riders.
1.15.3 Access to the Parc fermé is limited to the rider plus two (2) assistants. Failure to adhere to this
requirement may result in the exclusion of the offending rider.
1.15.4 To be classified as a finisher, the motorcycle must have completed not less than two thirds of the
distance of the race (rounded down to the nearest number of whole laps) under its own power.
General
1.16.1 There is no restriction on practice. Competitors may practice at any circuit at any time. Riders who
also take part in the National championship are however still required to abide by the practice rules
for the National Championships.
1.16.2 The GCR’s and SSR’s applicable to motorcycle racing must be read and understood in conjunction
with these regulations and specifications.
1.16.3 The presence and/or use of generators is prohibited in the pre-race paddock (where applicable)
and/or on the grid unless prior permission to the contrary has been granted by the Clerk of the
Course.
1.16.4 Fluid containers other than for drinks or clear water are prohibited in the pre-race paddock (where
applicable) and/or on the grid unless prior permission to the contrary has been granted by the Clerk
of the Course.
1.16.5 The regulations make provision for the use of a pre-race facility (paddock). The Clerk of the Course
shall have the discretion to decide whether or not to make use of such a facility at a particular event
and shall advise his intentions in this regard during Riders’ Briefing.
1.16.6 Any requested technical inspections must commence within 20 minutes of the request being made
by the relevant official/s, unless permission to the contrary has been granted by said officials. Failure
to comply in this regard, and/or any action that may interfere with the conducting of a technical
inspection or cause it to be delayed unnecessarily, may result in the exclusion of the rider concerned.
1.16.7 Any act by any member of any team that threatens the timeous starting of a race, or that causes a
race start to be delayed, may result in the associated rider being penalised.
1.16.8 Any interference by any member of any team with the timing personnel and/or their equipment, may
lead to the associated rider being penalised.
1.16.9 All engines must be adequately sealed by, and to the satisfaction of, the Technical Consultant prior to
the start of the first race meeting in which the individual rider takes part. In the case of a new
motorcycle, where the crate is unopened, said motorcycle will be sealed at no cost to the rider in

Johannesburg. In all other cases, the costs of sealing shall be borne by the respective team or rider.
The penalty for not having a sealed engine, or one on which the seal has been broken, shall be
automatic exclusion from the event concerned and/or preclusion from one race meeting. The 125s,
150s, Unlimited Superbikes, Formula Xtreme, Breakfast Run and BOTTs classes are excluded from this
ruling.
1.16.10 Riders failing to attend riders’ briefing, without being excused by the relevant Clerk of the Course,
shall be required to start all races at the event from the back of the grid.
1.16.11 The same motorcycle may be used in more than one class, providing the motorcycle meets the
technical regulations and specifications of the class. This is subject to the approval of the Clerk of the
Course and the Technical Consultant.
2.
Honda NSF 100 Junior Trophy (Club Championship)
2.1
Objective of Class
2.1.1
The aim of the Cup is to promote and foster young talents and to prepare them for future racing. It is
the first stage of the NSF100 Junior Trophy Development Program, and national talent scout
initiative, created jointly by Honda and S.A.M.R.A under the auspices of MSA.
2.1.2
The NSF 100 class will not form part of the program for any events held at both Phakisa and Kyalami.
2.2
Eligibility of Rider
2.2.1
Riders who turn 8 before 30th June 2013 may compete as from 1st January 2013.
2.2.2
Riders who turn 8 between 1st July 2013 and 31st December 2013 may compete as from 1st July
2013.
2.2.3
Riders are no longer eligible for the class from 31 December of the year the rider turns 14.
2.2.4
Riders shall be in possession of a Club or Regional competition license valid for motorcycle circuit
racing and issued by MSA.
2.3
Eligibility of Motorcycle
2.3.1
Keys will be drawn after each race for the following event.
2.3.2
Parents may not tamper with motorcycles or make any adjustments to the motorcycle.
2.3.3
The Trophy Organisation will provide each rider with a motorcycle which complies with the
regulations of the NSF100 Junior Trophy.
2.3.4
Honda NSF100 motorcycles supplied by Honda South Africa especially for this Trophy are authorized
to participate.
2.3.5
The Trophy Organisation has the right to apply technical modifications to the bike whenever deemed
necessary and in conjunction with the MSA Technical Consultant and a Honda representative or as
required by the regulations and the general MSA road racing rules.
2.3.6
Transportation of the motorcycles to each Trophy Event and to additional official tests will be
handled by the Trophy Organisation.
2.3.7
A change of the motorcycle during the event is not permitted. Only if the motorcycle is beyond track
side repair, will a replacement be allocated with the approval of the Trophy Organisation and the COC
of the event.
3.
150 Cup (Regional Championship)
3.1
Objective of Class
3.1.1
To declare a 2013 Regional 150 Champion.
3.2
Eligibility of Rider
3.2.1
Riders who turn 12 before 30th June 2013 may compete as from 1st January 2013.
3.2.2
Riders who turn 12 between 1st July 2013 and 31st December 2013 may compete as from 1st July
2013.
3.2.3
Riders are no longer eligible for the class from 31 December of the year the rider turns 15.
3.2.4
Alternatively, riders that have been competing in the NSF 100 Junior Trophy for 2 consecutive years
will be eligible to compete from the year in which they turn 11 years of age.
3.2.5
Riders shall be in possession of a Regional competition licence valid for motorcycle circuit racing and
issued by MSA.

a.

To be admitted in the 150 Junior Cup the motorcycle must have been manufactured by an
official Importer recognised by MSA. It must be in conformity with the 150 Junior Cup
specifications and must comply in every respect with all the safety requirements for Road
Racing, as specified in the MSA regulations. The NRSC, in agreement with the NRSC TC, will
decide the eligibility of motorcycle.
b. If a motorcycle is found not to be in conformity with the technical regulations after a race, the
rider will be excluded. Further penalties (such as a fine, a suspension and/or a withdrawal of the
Series points) can be recommended by the TC and imposed by the CoC or a Court of Enquiry.
c. In cases where the infringement is considered by the TC to be of a minor nature not connected
with performance or safety, the exclusion penalty may be varied.
d. The NRSC and NRSC TC are the only persons responsible for all decisions regarding the technical
legality of a 150 Junior Cup motorcycle. The legality may also be established by comparison with
similar OEM parts. Parts found to differ will be confiscated by the TC with no recourse by the
competitor.
Aftermarket Replacement Parts
All approved aftermarket replacement parts must be available to all competitors. These would have
to be approved by the NRSC and NRSC TC.
Machine Specifications
All items not mentioned in the following articles, must remain as originally produced by the machine
manufacturer and by the aftermarket product manufacturer, where applicable. The appearance from
both front and rear as well as the profile of the STANDARD motorcycle, must be a copy of the
originally produced homologated motorcycle.
Amendments to the Technical Regulations
For safety reasons or otherwise, amendments to the technical regulations may be made by the NRSC
and NRSC TC only.
Displacement Capacities
a. The displacement capacity must remain as originally produced by the machine manufacturer
(other than only the 1mm oversize piston modification). Modifying the stroke is not allowed and
same must remain at 47.2 mm.
b. The cylinder may be bored to 1 mm oversize and therefore not exceed 64.5 mm in diameter.
Minimum Weights
a. The minimum weight of the machine will be 105 kg. At any time during practice and racing, the
weight of the whole machine must not be less than the published minimum weight.
b. The NRSC will be entitled to increase the minimum weight of motorcycles which do not comply
with these rules and which are incapable of doing so.
c. If a final inspection at the end of the practice or race is performed, the checked machines will be
weighed in the condition they were at the end of the race. Nothing (including water, oil and
fuel) may be added or removed from the machine.
Tyres
d. The tyres used are to be road going tyres as per the size that was originally fitted to the
motorcycle. Any make is acceptable as long as they are freely available to all competitors.
e. The use of tyre warmers is permitted.
Engine
a.
Carburetion Instruments / Fuel Injection System
No modifications are allowed.
The carburettor must remain standard except for the main jet and pilot jet which may be
changed to any size.
The standard Honda needle (part number 16151-KPP-931) must be used but the use of
spacers to space the needle is permitted.
All other aspects of the carburettor must remain standard.

Cylinder Head
No modifications are allowed.
The cylinder head gasket must be an official part produced for the motorcycle and cannot
be modified in any way.
Honda part numbers 12251-KPP-900 OR 12252-KPP-900 must be used.

No metal may be removed or added.
The valves, seats, guides, springs, shim buckets, oil seals, shims, cotter valve, spring base
and retainers must be as originally produced by the manufacturer.
Polishing of these parts and any material treatment is not allowed.
Additional valve spring shims are not allowed.
Valve seats may be re-faced but any enlarging of the port size by cutting of the seats is not
permitted.
Any adjusting shims are permitted for valve clearance setting.
Camshaft
No modifications are allowed.
Polishing and material treatments is not allowed.
Changing the timing of the camshaft is allowed.
Cam sprockets or gears
Machining of the camshaft sprockets is allowed only to enable the cam timing to be
changed (slots cut).
Cylinders
No modifications are allowed except for the machining of the bore to permit a 1mm
oversize piston to be fitted. No coatings or treatments on the cylinder bore are permitted
(e.g. Nicasil). Cylinder gasket part number 12191-KPP-900 must be used.
Pistons
No modifications are allowed.
Only Honda CBR150 pistons of part numbers as listed below are permitted (to a maximum
of 1mm O/S) - 13011-KPP-900; 13021-KPP-900; 13031-KPP-900; 13041-KPP-900; 13051KPP-900
Polishing and/or material treatments are not allowed.
Piston rings
No modifications are allowed.
Polishing and/or material treatments are not allowed.
Piston pins and clips
No modifications are allowed.
Polishing and/or material treatments are not allowed.
Connecting rods
No modifications are allowed.
Polishing and/or material treatments are not allowed.
Crankshaft
No modifications are allowed.
Polishing and/or material treatments are not allowed.
Crankcase and all other engine cases (i.e. ignition case, clutch case, etc.)
No modifications to the crankcase are allowed.
Removing or adding material is not allowed.
Transmission & Gearbox
The front and rear sprocket may be changed
The gear shift mechanism may be replaced to allow changes in shift pattern.
No “quick shifters” are permitted.
Standard transmission rations must be used.
No modifications other than “undercutting” of gears are allowed.
Clutch & clutch plates
No modifications are allowed. No spacers may be fitted behind the standard OEM clutch
springs.
Clutch plates and clutch friction discs can be changed but must be of OEM specification as
per that specific motorcycle. Part numbers as listed - 22201-KBW-900; 22201-MJ8-000;
22321-KE8-000.
Oil pumps and oil lines
No modifications are allowed.
Polishing, cutting or material treatments are not allowed.

Radiator, cooling system
Radiator, cooling system must remain as homologated.
Protective meshes may be added in front of the oil and/or water radiator(s).
If meshes are installed, they must be properly secured.

Engine lubricant
Any engine lubricant may be used.

Air box
The air box must remain as originally produced by the manufacturer of the machine but
the lid may be removed.
All the oil breather lines must be connected and discharge in the air box.
r.
Fuel supply
Fuel lines from the fuel tank to the delivery pipe assembly and fuel petcock must remain as
originally produced by the manufacturer.
s.
Exhaust system
Exhaust systems are free of restriction but must conform to the MSA noise limits.
t.
Flywheel and engine balancer shaft
No modifications to the flywheel or balancer shaft are permitted.
The standard woodruff key must be used with the flywheel and not be modified.
u.
Water pump and thermostat
No modifications permitted. The thermostat valve may be removed from inside its body,
but the body must stay fitted.
Electrics and Electronics
a.
Ignition / Engine Control System (ECU)
Electronic Central Unit (ECU) must remain as was supplied with the motorcycle when it
was homologated. Relocation of the (ECU) is not allowed. In order to ensure competition
fairness, at any given time during the event and at his discretion, the NRSC TC, can request
the rider to replace the (ECU) with an “off the shelf” unit, which is kept by the MSA TC
and/or NRSC TC.
No adjustments to the standard ignition unit (Honda part number 30410-KPP-901) are
permitted. No form of adjustment to the rev limiter, ignition advance system or standard
ignition system by any means are permitted.
b.
Generator, Alternator and Electric Starter
No modifications are allowed.
The electric starter must operate normally and always be able to start the engine during
practice and racing.
The engine must start and run on its own power when the electric starter has stopped its
procedure.
c.
Additional Equipment
The use of lap timers is permitted.
No other additional electronic hardware equipment may be used.
Telemetry, other than onboard lap timers, is not allowed.
d.
Wiring Harness
The wiring harness and connectors must remain as originally produced by the
manufacturer.
Cutting of the wiring harness is not allowed, except to remove headlamps, side stand, turn
signals, etc. as in 3.3.11 “Items That Must Be Removed”.
e.
Battery
The position and type of the battery must be as originally produced by the manufacturer
for the homologated machine.
Frame and Body
a.
Frame Body and Rear Sub-Frame
The frame must remain as originally produced by the manufacturer.
Nothing may be added by welding or removed by grinding from the frame body.
All motorcycles must display the manufacturers’ vehicle identification number on the
frame body (chassis number).

modification is allowed to permit the fitting of a single seat tail piece. This must not reduce

Non welded additional seat brackets may be added. Non-stressed protruding brackets may
be removed only if they are a safety issue on the machine for its rider or others.
Polishing the frame body or sub-frame is not allowed.
Front Forks
Fork structures (spindle, stanchions, bridges, stem, etc.) must remain as originally
produced by the manufacturer.
The standard original internal parts of the forks may not be modified. Spacers may be
added to increase the pre load on the springs which must remain standard (part number
51401-KPP-901).
Any quantity of oil can be used in the front forks.
Changing the protrusion (height and position of the front fork in relation to the fork
crowns) is allowed.
The upper and lower fork clamps (triple clamp, fork bridges and stem) must remain as
originally produced by the manufacturer.
No steering damping devices are allowed.
Rear Fork (Swinging Arm)
Every part of the rear fork must remain as originally produced by the manufacturer for the
homologated machine (including rear fork pivot bolt and rear axle adjuster).
Rear wheel stand positioning brackets may be added to the rear fork. Brackets must have
rounded edges (with a large radius viewed from all sides). Fastening screws must be
recessed.
Rear Suspension Unit
The rear suspension unit and spring must remain standard (including the preload spring).
The original attachments to the frame and rear fork (swinging arm) must be used and the
rear suspension linkage must remain as originally produced by the manufacturer.
Wheels
Wheels, bearings and internal spacers must remain as originally produced by the
manufacturer.
If the original design includes a cushion drive for the rear wheel, it must remain as
originally produced by the manufacturer.
No modification of the wheel-axles or any fixing and mounting points for the front and rear
brake caliper, is allowed.
Spacers must remain as originally produced by the manufacturer. Modifications to keep
spacers in place are not permitted.
Wheel balance weights may be discarded, changed or added to.
No other modifications are permitted.
Brakes
Standard front hydraulic brake lines may be replaced with braided brake lines.
All other parts of the braking system must remain as originally produced by the
manufacturer.
Standard front and rear brake pads may be replaced with any aftermarket brake pads.
Standard hand levers may be replaced with any aftermarket hand levers.
Additional air scoops or ducts are not allowed.
Front brake caliper bolts are to be lock-wired with approved safety wire.
Foot Rests/Foot Controls
Any aftermarket foot control units (rear sets) are permitted.
Foot controls units must be mounted to the frame at the original mounting points.

Footrests must have an end (plug) which is permanently fixed, made of plastic, Teflon or
aluminium (minimum radius 8mm). The plug surface must be designed to reach the widest
possible area in order to decrease the risk of injuries to the rider in the case of an accident.

Only handlebars originally supplied on the homologated motorcycle may be used. No other
aftermarket handle bars are allowed.
Handlebars and hand controls may be relocated.
Throttle controls and throttle assembly must remain as originally produced by the
manufacturer.
Switches must remain as originally produced by the manufacturer, no modifications are
allowed.
Eliminating of the switches is allowed only by unplugging.
Cutting of the wiring harness is not allowed.
Relocation of the switches is allowed.
i.
Fuel Tank
Fuel tank filler cap may be changed to an aftermarket type.
Fuel tank valve petcock must remain as originally produced by the manufacturer.
All fuel tanks must be completely filled with fire retardant material (open-celled mesh, i.e.
“Explosafe®”).

Seat
The homologated seat locking system (with plates, pins, rubber pads, etc.) can be
removed.
k.
Fairing/Body Work
Any aftermarket fairing may be used as long as it is a copy of the original supplied on the
homologated motorcycle. Any deviations from this must be approved by the NRSC and
NRSC TC. Overall size and dimensions must be the same as the original part.
The windscreen is unrestricted.
Only the instrument and fairing brackets as supplied on the homologated motorcycle may
be used.. No other instrument or fairing bracket is allowed. No modifications are
permitted.
The Following Items May Be Altered Or Replaced From Those Fitted To The Motorcycle.

The following items may be altered or replaced from those fitted to the homologated
motorcycle:
Gaskets and gasket materials (with the exception of cylinder and cylinder head gaskets).

the frame (or engine) cannot be titanium or fibre reinforced composites.
Painted external surface finishes and decals.

Items Which May Be Removed
Chain guard, as long as it is not incorporated in the rear mudguard.
Bolt on accessories on a rear sub frame.
c. Items That Must Be Removed
Headlamps, rear lamp and turn signal indicators. Openings must be properly sealed with
suitable materials.
Rear-view mirrors.
Horn.
Toolkit.
Helmets hooks and luggage carrier hooks.

Safety bars, centre and side stands must be removed (fixed brackets must remain).

General Safety Instruction
a.
Motorcycles must be equipped with a functioning ignition kill switch or button mounted on a
side of the handlebar (within reach of the hand while on the hand grips) that is capable of
stopping a running engine.
b.
All drain plugs must be wired. External oil filter(s) screws and bolts that enter an oil cavity must
be safety wired.
c.
Where breather or overflow pipes are fitted they must discharge via existing outlets.
d.
The original closed system must be retained. No direct atmospheric emission is permitted, as all
motorcycles must have a closed breather system.
e.
The oil breather line must be connected and discharge into the air box.
250 Cup (Regional Championship)
4.1
Objective of Class
To declare a 2013 250cc Regional Champion. The class will be separated into an single cylinder class and a
twin cylinder class, each will be scored separatley. At the end of the year the rider with the most points
acrodd both classes will be declared the overall 250 Champion.
4.2
Eligibility of Rider
4.2.1
Riders who turn 14 before 30th June 2013 may compete as from 1st January 2013.
4.2.2
Riders who turn 14 between 1st July 2012 and 31st December 2013 may compete as from 1st July
2013.
4.2.3
Alternatively, riders that have been competing in the NSF 100 class and/or the 150 Cup for 2
consecutive years will be eligible to compete from the year in which they turn 13 years of age.
4.2.4
Riders shall be in possession of a Regional competition licence valid for motorcycle circuit racing and
issued by MSA.
4.3
Eligibility of Motorcycle
4.3.1
Discipline Specifications
a.
To be admitted in the 250 Cup the motorcycle must have been supplied by an official Importer
recognised by MSA and homologated as such. It must be in conformity with these 250
Junior Cup specifications and must comply in every respect with all the safety
requirements for Road Racing as specified in the MSA regulations. The NRSC, in agreement
with the NRSC TC, will decide the eligible motorcycles.
b.
If a motorcycle is found not to be in conformity with the technical regulations after a race, the
rider will be excluded. Further penalties (such as a fine, a suspension and/or a withdrawal
of the Series points) can be recommended by the TC and imposed by the CoC or a Court of
Enquiry.
c.
In cases where the infringement is considered by the TC to be of a minor nature not connected
with performance or safety, the exclusion penalty may be varied.
d.
The NRSC and NRSC TC are the only persons responsible for all decisions regarding the technical
legality of a 250 Junior Cup motorcycle. The legality may also be established by comparison
with similar OEM parts. Parts found to differ will be confiscated by the TC with no recourse
by the competitor.
4.3.2
Aftermarket Replacement Parts
All approved aftermarket replacement parts must be available to all competitors. These would have
to be approved by the NRSC and NRSC TC.
4.3.3
Machine Specifications
All items not mentioned in the following articles, must remain as originally produced by the machine
manufacturer and by the aftermarket product manufacturer, where applicable. The appearance from
both, front and rear as well as the profile of the STANDARD motorcycle, must be a copy of the
originally produced homologated motorcycle.
4.3.4
Amendments to the Technical Regulations
For safety reasons or otherwise, amendments to the technical regulations may only be made by the
NRSC and NRSC TC.
4.3.5
Displacement Capacities
a.
The displacement capacity must remain as originally produced by the machine manufacturer.
Modifying the bore and stroke is not allowed. The capacity will be 250cc maximum.

Minimum Weights
a.
The minimum weight of the machine will be 140 kg (this will be finalized once all
manufactures interested in the class have submitted their motorcycles for homologation).
b.
At any time during practice and racing, the weight of the whole machine must not be less
than the published minimum weight, with a tolerance of 1 kg.
c.
If a final inspection is performed at the end of a practice session or race, the checked
machines will be weighed in the condition they finished the session or race. Nothing
(including water, oil and fuel) may be added or removed from the machine.
Fuel
a.
Only normal unleaded pump fuel available for sale to the general public is permitted to be
used.
Tyres
a.
The tyres used are to be roadgoing tyres as per the size that was originally fitted to the
motorcycle. Any make is acceptable as long as they are freely available to all competitors.
b.
The use of tyre warmers is permitted.
c.
Only one set of tyres will be allowed for qualifying and all races at each event.
Engine
a.
Carburation Instruments / Fuel Injection System
No modifications are allowed.
Carburation instruments, including any intake devices, must remain as homologated.
Bell mouths must remain as originally produced by the manufacturer for the homologated
machine.
The injectors must remain standard units as on the originally produced motorcycle.
No added fueling devices or adjustments are allowed (Power Commanders, Bazzaz, etc).
No adjustments (‘flashing’ etc.) are permitted to the ECU.
Carburetor return springs (for the slide) are to remain standard as homologated.
b.
Cylinder Head
No modifications are allowed.
The cylinder head gasket must be an official part, produced for the motorcycle, and cannot
be modified in any way.
The valves, valve seats, guides, springs, tappets, oil seals, shims, cotter valve, spring base
and retainers must be as originally produced by the manufacturer. Polishing of these parts
and any material treatment is not allowed. Additional valve spring shims are not allowed.
NO REMOVAL of ANY metal from the cylinder head is permitted.
c.
Camshaft
No modifications are allowed.
Polishing and material treatments are not allowed.
Changing the timing of the camshaft is not allowed. Machining of the camshaft and
camshaft sprockets is not allowed.
No spacing of the cam chain guides or modification thereof permitted.
d.
Cam Sprockets or Gears
No modifications are allowed.
e.
Cylinders
No modifications are allowed
f.
Pistons
No modifications are allowed.
Polishing and/or material treatments are not allowed.
g.
Piston Rings
No modifications are allowed.

Piston Pins and Clips

Transmission/ Gearbox
The front and rear sprocket may be changed but must be of the same pitch as the
homologated motorcycle.
The gear shift mechanism may be replaced to allow changes in shift pattern.
No “quick shifters” are permitted.
If a gear position sensor is fitted, it must work as per the homologated motorcycle.
m. Clutch/Clutch Plates
No modifications are allowed.
Clutch plates and clutch friction discs can be changed but must be of OEM specification as
per the homologated motorcycle.
n.
Oil Pumps and Oil Lines
No modifications are allowed.
Polishing, cutting or material treatments are not allowed.
o.
Radiator, Cooling System and Oil Coolers
Radiator, cooling system and oil cooler must remain as homologated.
Protective meshes may be added in front of the oil and/or water radiator(s).
If meshes are installed, they must be properly secured.
p.
Engine Lubricant
Any engine lubricant may be used.
q.
Air Box
The air box must remain as originally produced by the manufacturer of the machine. Air
box drains may be sealed. The air filter element may be replaced with an aftermarket filter.
All motorcycles must have a closed breather system. All the oil breather lines must be
connected and discharge into the air box.
r.
Fuel Supply
Fuel lines from the fuel tank to the delivery pipe assembly and fuel petcock must remain as
originally produced by the manufacturer. Fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator must
remain as homologated.
s.
Exhaust System
Exhaust systems are free of restriction. The exhaust must conform to the MSA noise limits.
Exhaust valve and servos may be removed and the plugs blanked off. The harness (for the
servo) must remain in place and be separated only where a plug is.
t.
Flywheel and Engine Balancer Shaft
No modifications to the flywheel or balancer shaft are permitted.
The standard woodruff key must be used with the flywheel and not be modified.
Electrics and Electronics
a.
Ignition / Engine Control System (ECU)
Electronic Central Unit (ECU) must remain as was supplied with the motorcycle when it
was homologated. Relocation of the (ECU) is not allowed. In order to ensure competition
fairness, at any given time during the event and at his discretion, the NRSC TC, can request
the rider to replace the (ECU) with an “off the shelf” unit, which is kept by the MSA TC and
or NRSC TC.

If any problem should occur during the event to the ECU, such as “loss of memory” or
“damages” due to impacts, this should immediately be reported to the NRSC TC, together
with suggestions as to the appropriate countermeasures to resolve the problem. Updated
mapping might be available during the season. Such updates can only be installed in
consultation with the NRSC TC and with NRSC approval.
No modifications are allowed to either the ignition pick up or its mounting points.
b.

No modifications are allowed.

front lower area. This hole must remain closed in dry conditions and must be opened only
in wet race conditions.

Moto 3 (Regional Championship)

5.2
Eligibility of Rider

Eligibility of Motorcycle
5.3.1
Championship Classes

The GP125 championship shall be open to the following classes:
b. Any single cylinder two-stroke motorcycle having an engine capacity in excess of 121cc and less
than 128cc.

Any single cylinder four stroke with an engine capacity of 250cc is eligible to compete.
5.3.2
Technical Regulations and Specifications

Turbo-charging, supercharging or nitrous oxide boosting is not permitted.
b.
Tyres are unrestricted.
c.
Silencers must be fitted to all motorcycles.
d. The use of kit parts, titanium is not allowed unless fitted as OEM. Only standard production
components for the model raced are allowed.
5.3.3
Cylinder as per model of bike
a.
Standard barrel only (no kit cylinders permitted).
b.
Polishing of ports is allowed.
c.
Matching of transfer ports is allowed.
5.3.4
Piston and Ring.
a.
Only standard OEM piston and ring to be used.
b.
No A-Kit pistons with thin ring or aftermarket pistons are allowed.
5.3.5
Cylinder Head.
a.
The cylinder head is free of restriction (i.e. the use of non standard cylinder heads is permitted).
5.3.6
Clutch
a.
The clutch basket must remain a standard Honda part. No aftermarket clutch systems are
permitted.
5.3.7
Crank Shaft.
a.
Only standard OEM crank shaft, no modification allowed
5.3.8
Engine Control Unit (CDI Box)
a.
Only original CDI unit to be used as supplied on model of bike.
b.
Re-mapping and A-Kit CDI’s not allowed.

6.1
Objective of Class
To declare a 2013 Regional Supersport Champion.
6.2
Eligibility of Rider
6.2.1
All riders shall be in possession of a National or Regional competition licence valid for motorcycle
circuit racing and issued by MSA.
6.2.2
Riders must generally not be less than 16 years of age. However MSA reserves the right, at its sole
discretion, to issue licences to competitors who turn 15 years old during the year in question and
who are able to prove participation to an acceptable standard in one or more suitable junior
categories of motorcycle circuit racing for a period of not less than two years. In such cases, riders
who will turn 15 before 30 June 2013 shall be entitled to enter the class from 01 January 2013 and
those who will turn 15 after 30 June 2013 may enter the class from 01 July 2013.
6.2.3
Riders that have regularly competed in the Moto 3 class of regional racing and are moving to the
600cc Supersport class shall generally be considered automatically eligible.
6.2.4
A rider may upgrade to a National license once he has competed in at least four Regional events
and obtained approval from the NRSC.
6.2.5
Non-Qualifiers - If a rider falls outside of the 107% qualification ruling, he will have to apply, in
writing, to the Clerk of the Course within 30 minutes of the qualifying session having ended, stating
his reasons as to why he should be allowed to compete. The final decision will rest with the Clerk of
the Course, as to whether the rider is allowed to compete or not.
6.3
Eligibility of Motorcycle
6.3.1
Refer to the technical regulations and specifications for the 2013 South African National Supersport
Championship.
6.3.2
Tyres:
6.3.2.1
Only one set of tyres may be used on the race day (qualifying and racing).
6.3.2.2
Tyres will be marked after qualifying and the same set must then be used for both
races.

Any brand of homologated tyre may be used.

Objective of Class

Eligibility of Rider

Riders who turn 17 between 1st July 2013 and 31st December 2013 may compete as from 1st July

Eligibility of Motorcycle
7.3.1
The BOTTs championship shall be open all motorcycles with a twin-cylinder four-stroke engine.
7.3.2
Turbo-charging, supercharging or nitrous oxide boosting is not permitted.
7.3.3
Engine capacity of motorcycles is unlimited.
7.3.4
There are no restrictions on the permitted modifications in this class providing that the motorcycle
complies with any applicable MSA GCR’s and SSR’s.
7.3.5
The only restriction on tyres is that they are supplied through a homologated importer/distributor.
7.3.6
Silencers must be fitted to all motorcycles
7.3.7
Race fuel will be permitted subject to the applicable provisions of clause 1.8 above.
8.
Unlimited SBK (Regional Championship)
8.1
Objective of Class
To declare a 2013 Regional Unlimited Superbike Champion.
8.2
Eligibility of Rider
8.2.1
Riders who turn 17 before 30th June 2013 may compete as from 1st January 2013.
8.2.2
Riders who turn 17 between 1st July 2013 and 31st December 2013 may compete as from 1st July
2013.

Formula Xtreme (Club Championship)
9.1
Objective of Class
9.1.1
To provide a race format for rider who are too quick for the Breakfast Run Class but not yet up to
pace with the Unlimited SBK, Supersport or Botts classes, to compete with other riders of a similar
skill level.
9.1.2
To allow riders to build their racing experience, skill, improve lap times and, depending on individual
ability, to progress further to other Regional racing classes.
9.2
Eligibility of Rider
9.2.1
Riders who turn 17 before 30th June 2013 may compete as from 1st January 2013.
9.2.2
Riders who turn 17 between 1st July 2013 and 31st December 2013 may compete as from 1st July
2013.
9.2.3
Riders shall be eligible for trophies in the “Masters” class from their 45th birthday.
9.2.4
All riders wishing to take part in the Formula Xtreme class during 2012 must complete the online
application form on http://www.northernregionsracing.co.za. These applications will then
automatically be emailed to MSA and NRSC. This also applies to competitors who have raced during
2012.

lap times faster than the benchmark at any of the circuits will not qualify to take part in the class.
9.2.8
2012 Superbike, Supersport, Formula Xtreme, BOTTS and Breakfast Run competitors who exceeded
the 2013 benchmark in 50% or more of the events in which they participated will NOT be eligible to
compete in the class in 2013.
9.2.9
Any rider who started racing in 2012 and competed in less than 3 events or less will be allowed to
compete in the Formula Xtreme class for 2013.
9.2.10 At the end of the year, those riders who record an average lap time faster than the benchmark
average lap times in 50% of the events they have competed in will not be allowed to continue
competing in future Formula Xtreme events.

10.1.2 To allow riders to build their racing experience, skill, improve lap times and, depending on individual
ability, to progress further to the Formula Xtreme class.
10.2 Eligibility of Rider
10.2.1 Riders who turn 16 before 30th June 2012 may compete as from 1st January 2013.
10.2.2 Riders who turn 16 between 1st July 2013 and 31st December 2013 may compete as from 1st July
2013.
10.2.3 Riders shall be eligible for trophies in the “Masters” class from their 45th birthday.

Exclusion” time will be deemed to have reached the level of riding competence to compete in the

All competitors are required to display one Full Throttle sticker on either side of their motorcycle which is

15.1 All administration for the regional series will be conducted on the NRSC web site –
http://www.northernregionsracing.co.za
15.2 The SR’s for each event will be uploaded onto the web site and from there they will be emailed to all
competitors.
15.3 All entries will be done online, no manual entries (fax or post) will be accepted.
15.4 The web site has the facility for online credit card payments. These payments are made into the NRSC Trust
account managed by MSA. Entry fees paid into this account will be paid over to the organising club by MSA
on the Wednesday prior to each event.
15.5 Organising clubs are required to capture all other payments (EFT or cash) made by competitors on the NRSC
web site.
15.6 Organising clubs are required to capture all entry withdrawals, entry fee discounts, changes to entries etc.
on the web site.
15.7 All competitors are required to register their allocated number on the web site for each class they are
competing in after they have been allocated the number by MSA.
