Standing outside on the terrace of the lodge, one cannot help but be reminded of the now famous
phrase "I am the king of the world!”.
Your eyes can wander from the islands just off the coast out onto the open sea; from densely wooded
mountain ridges, impressive cliff lines and the deep blue Pacific Ocean over to the neighbouring islands.
Forsyth Island, which stretches over 706 hectare, is part of the possibly most fascinating group of
islands on earth - the Marlborough Sounds. The exclusive lodge “Te-Paruparu” is located on one of the
emerald green mountain plateaus. The name means “the good one” and is the Maori name of the island.
The beaches invite to enjoy a picnic.
Roughly 50 km of walking and hiking tracks want to be explored by you! Forsyth Island hosts neither
mosquitoes nor dangerous animals or poisonous plants – instead you can find sheep, cute cashmere
goats and three tame lamas. Guests with an interest in botany will be amazed by the lush flora. Even
rare endemic plants grow here.
Take the boat out for fishing (success is guaranteed in these rich fishing grounds!) or watch the seals
and the dolphins and be sure to take your time!
Forsyth Island is easy to reach from the capital Wellington, from Blenheim and Havelock and is the ideal
starting point for all sorts of excursions.
Enchanted fern forests and fragrant Manuka tree avenues, impressive cliffs and lonely beaches add to
the special charm of Forsyth Island. This island of 700 hectare is a valuable natural monument, even
within New Zealand, which is extremely green everywhere. The national bird Kiwi can be found here
and Forsyth is the last place to host a couple of the endemic Milkwood trees. After farmers cultivated
the fertile ground for sheep farming in the last century, nature has now been allowed to reconquer the
island for the last two decades – the government of New Zealand is extremely pleased about this.

Lodge & Service
The lodge “Te Paruparu”, built from local timbres, is peacefully located on top of a hill and offers a panoramic view over the bays
of the Marlborough Sounds. The stylish lodge of 240 sqm has three bedrooms – each with a modern bathroom en suite – and
comfortably fits 6 to 8 guests.
The fully equipped open kitchen, the dining table and the generous, light-flooded living area, which are designed as a gallery
concept, form the centre of the lodge. Here you will find a library, satellite TV, an audio and entertainment system with a
selection of DVDs and CDs, games, a professional telescope for watching the stars.
Of course you have a telephone, fax machine and internet connection at your disposal.
The exclusive lodge is rounded off by a roofed veranda surrounding the house and a Jacuzzi with a view of the Sea.
The lodge’s own, fresh island well guarantees water supplies all year round.
The friendly caretakers Jan and Peter Hood live in a farmhouse down by the Island’s major wharf (10 minutes by car). Here, a
beach cottage is also available if needed (2 bed rooms).

Warmly and discreetly, the Hoods will look after your well-being in every respect. You are free to decide which daily service you
wish or whether you prefer to remain private and all alone. You can choose between full board and self-catering. However, we
warmly recommend trying Jan Hood’s excellent cuisine, as her lovingly prepared dishes are praised by everyone. You can look
forward to seafood menus, local dishes of your choice, fresh fruit from the island garden and selected New Zealand wines from
the famous wine growing areas near Blenheim.
Should you decide to cook yourself – either in general or once a day – the caretakers will provide you with the groceries you
wish.

Activities
There are so many possibilities on Forsyth Island:
Boat tours with an experienced skipper, fishing excursions (good catch guaranteed in
these rich fishing grounds), kayaking – the waters around the island are clear as crystal.
You can either watch dolphins or hike on the numerous island paths: 50 km of walking
tracks lead around the 700 hectare island and wind themselves up onto the three peaks
of nearly 400 m. The paths are surrounded by magnificent flora and fauna without
poisonous animals and plants - and definitely without mosquitoes.
The caretakers will be happy to drive you up to the most beautiful BBQ places in the
island jeep. Interested guests are also welcome to experience the farming business with
cashmere goats and sheep.
We suggest a relaxing week on Forsyth Island and then a round trip trough New Zealand
with its many facets. It is not without reason that New Zealand’s landscapes served as
scenery for the movie trilogy “Lord of the Rings”.
Discover the unique national parks, experience the culture of the Maori people (New
Zealand’s native people) and enjoy the cultural diversity of the cities – the capital
Wellington is worth a visit.
The Abel Tasman Park and the skiing resort in Nelson Lakes are very close. In order to
observe whales it is best to visit Kaikoura at a distance of 160 km (early booking is

Where else could you climb a glacier and walk through rain forest on the same day? Or
go skiing on a volcano in the morning and take a bath in warm open-air thermal springs
